I bought 2 tickets for the balloon trip and explained that I would have a 2 week window in the country to use them. We booked a date for the first week of August so this is peak summer, the weather is not going to get better all year.
The flight was cancelled on the morning of the flight by the pilot. I contacted Virgin and was told there are no other dates available in my 2 week window and to fill out the refund form.
After much back and forth (3 weeks) with trying to get the refund form submitted correctly I was told that because I am unable to get a refund due to not buying refundable tickets which are able to be cancelled.
The tickets were not cheap at all, and I think its very wrong that I would not be refunded for them even though the cancellation was made by themselves and not me. . Beware when buying and booking with Virgin balloons !!!

Had bought two vouchers in 2021, tried booking multiple times . Few flights got cancelled before a day and one after traveling to destination. Though we can understand this is weather permissible, But you should always be ready for any last moment cancelllation and despair. Then comes a exasperating experience of rebooking, where you won't get any slot of your desired day . After some time i am being told my vouchers are expired. So utter waste of nearly 400£ after 2 years of endless pain . Why there is an expiry date when things are so uncertain and customer has no fault . What a pathetic experience. !!

I am reiterating the review given below. We were also due to be on that flight. We live nearly 4 hours away and were at Crieff before message came through . Messaged the pilot to tell him weather was fine, no wind. Was told he doesn't live nearby and has to rely on weather reports. The met office weather said wind speed below Virgin wind speed limits. This is a total rip off. We have tried 6 times now and always cancelled. Wonder if the pilots ever fly from north of central belt .

Do not book this unless you want to be doomed to an endless cycle of trying to book a flight, trying to find out if it’s going ahead (it never is), discovering it’s cancelled and driving home to do it all again.
It’s easy to blame Scottish weather but we have been trying to get a flight for literally years - we have had at least 3 failed attempts (one of which had apparently been cancelled days before and somehow we ‘hadn’t got the email they definitely sent’) We are in Crieff now with our son and daughter who travelled from Edinburgh and Glasgow - we live two and a half hours away so had to set out before the promised update on the flight line at 12.00 - we were trying the flight phone line for ages till finally at 2.50pm there was a garbled message about wind speeds being above operational limits so flight cancelled - by this time we are in Crieff - clear skies, NO WIND!! Forecast saying wind of 6/7 so well below 10 (which we were told would cancel the flight) Honestly it is so still! Total scam - we can’t get money back and these are likely the last flight opportunities till next year ( booking an actual flight is a nightmare in itself)and so will have to endlessly book for flights that never happen - I assume they hope folk will just give up and they then keep the money and I fear that does happen - but they haven’t met my husband. We will be rebooking and travelling up and down the A9 phoning the useless flight line for eternity …

You should be ashamed, Virgin. I thought you were better than this!
After 7 attempted flights we got to meet others when a basket appeared. Out of the people hoping to fly only 2 were new to this. One couple had tried 16 times and this was number 17. The rest of us had experienced 5 to 7 attempts with all the costs incurred from travel and B&B to numerous sites over a period of many, many years. (3-10 years in this instance) Many had taken time off work, using holidays to try for a flight.
According to the pilot there are so few landing sites in Perth that the weather is seldom conducive to take off. Farmers have prevented this through legal means.
So if Virgin know this but still take bookings and new bookings are bought without the backlog being cleared.... what are they up to?
What a business plan..... take the money and provide no service or any guarantee that they can meet it.
Also, after a continued renewal of the voucher for 6 months....how many people give up?
Getting your money back is so difficult and this only comes into play after 7 times.
It is often the case that gift vouchers have been bought so Virgin does not allow a refund for many of these. Virgin holds onto the money gifted or paid and commits daylight robbery. Morality doesn't come into it.
They will blame it on the weather and sound all apologetic. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse......they will charge admin fees for refunds and extension of time fees.
They have you sown up and are totally unashamed of what they do.
To all who get a flight, I'm sure it is wonderful: but for all who don't this is an expensive and ongoing nightmare.

As we offer an experience that is entirely at risk of cancellation or postponement mainly due to the weather dependant nature, but also many other external factors such as legal barriers of when and where we can fly, we do try to make every effort at the point of purchase to make customers aware of this, and as such give customers the opportunity to purchase either refundable or non-refundable vouchers.
We have recently taken on a new pilot for the Perth area who is extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and individual farm restrictions that may prevent flying.
Due to the nature of the surrounding land and the protections for specific farms and animals, on the whole, we have had to cut back on the amount of flights we book in Perth and surrounding areas as we cannot risk the wind blowing towards a protected area where we cannot land and therefore impacting our customer's safety.
Unfortunately, this is one of the many learning curves businesses in the ballooning industry go through and we can only apologise that you were caught in the crossfire. We will keep your feedback in mind in the future as we strive to be better.

it had been scheduled for a Creiff launch but because of weather the launch site had been changed to the north inch in Perth. This was our first attempt at booking a date and it seemed we landed lucky as most of the other passengers had tried several times and had not managed to fly. One passenger had tried 6 times before but had the flights cancelled, sometimes after travelling to the launch site !
part of the process was to check if the flight conditions were good late the night before (Scottish weather :-) who knows ).
wear old clothes as part of the experience was to help launch and pack the balloon after landing which was good fun.
the basket was divided into different compartments and due to balancing the basket via weight people could be moved, i was in a separate section of the basket from my wife though still standing next to each other.
My wife is petrified of heights but getting the balloon ready and jumping in etc she didn't get a chance to think of it and next thing she knew we were up up and away and when we were up the flight was really quiet and peaceful and the beautiful countryside slipped by below it was really relaxing and peaceful and calming experience and she did not get scared and really enjoyed the experience as did everyone else, including a couple of others who also thought they were going to be scared but weren't.
the flight lasted about 2 hours and the time flew by :-) , during the flight the basket was rotated so that everyone could face forward / back. instruction was given to brace for landing which was quite smooth, a couple of small bounces and we were down safely. Champagne / bucks fizz or soft drink was produced and we all toasted a great experience.
everyone helped to fold up the balloon, the field we landed in was dirt but luckily dry could imagine it being a very dirty experience in mud.
we were all driven back to the launch site in a mini van.
the passengers varied in age from early teens to retired, some scared, but all seemed to enjoy the experience,
highly recommended

Woody as a pilot; the experience we had from start to finish at the Strathaven Balloon Festival; the sun rise; our photographs and videos (courtesy of Woody).....all 5 star plus!!! Only issue was that we had to travel and pay for two prior visits only to have them cancelled at 11pm the night before due to weather/wind outlooks. Not Virgin’s or the pilot’s fault (safety first!)... but you have to be patient and flexible to find a slot and to get a good day for ballooning. But, when it works, it works! Amazing....

Absolutely amazing. Waited two years to eventually get the right weather but it was better than I could have thought. Part of the experience was organising the balloon before the flight. All of that added to the fun. Highly recommended.

Thursday 9th April 2015....very annoyed that the flights were canceled on this date, the weather in my opinion was excellent, and to add insult the balloon was flying on the friday, when it was certainly more windy than the previous day, an explanation is needed thanks....
