Went into restaurant side. Small dining area but staff were great. Food was really good. Although the gin ordered was not the one brought to table, it was so nice ordered another. A really nice restaurant to visit with good staff service. Thank you

Went in for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Served quickly by very friendly staff who were attentive and accurate. Food was excellent. Other half had chicken, loved it. I had steak pie and it was one of the best I'd ever eaten. Will visit again soon.

This was a nice restaurant the staff were friendly but the food was disgusting. The nachos were served covered in haggis . We waited over half a hour to get our food which was poorly presented . Portions were small and vastly overpriced. A very bad example for our visitors to Ayr. Wouldn't recommend this place to dine, even the beer garden had no staff to serve us when we first arrived. Poor quality food .we

I don't normally leave reviews however after our experience, it's justified.
Last Wednesday, my friends and I visited this place for lunch. I have ate in this place many times over the years and never had one issue.
So, we take a seat after a couple left, and the table was dirty, as expected. Two staff on shift, one a blonde mature woman, and one a young lad.
My starter arrived, and 5 very small Garlic Mushrooms were on this huge rectangular plate. My first thought was this is definitely not worth nearly £5 for that amount of food. Our local does double that amount for the same money. However, we were all hungry, so we ate.
Our plates sat in front of us for sometime, as the 2 staff stood behind the coffee bar chatting. I had to ask for my juice which was fine as we all forget right?
When our main meals finally arrived after 25 minutes, I knew straight away, that my meal again was not worth near £13. I ordered the fish, and when I looked at it, I knew it wasn't cooked properly. The fish inside was pink, rather than white, and the batter was soggy. My friend's ordered from the small bites menu, but their plates were full of food, where as my platewas just pathetic to be honest. As the restaurant was full, and the 2 staff, were still chatting behind the coffee area, I had to walk up to them and I ask the young lad to come to our table. I explained to him that the fish wasn't cooked properly, and asked him to take it away. He did aas I asked without no apology. He didn't ask if I wanted anything else, so I said to him myself, that I didn't want anything else.
The tea we had asked for with the meal finally arrived, after my friend had to ask for it. This was the second thing that was forgotten, in one sitting.
So I go up to pay for the meal, and the female staff member was ringing up my bill. As she was doing so, she turned to me and said, " Was it just the fish you sent back aye"? Which I replied, "yes". No apology, or any sort of attempt to be sorry.
We left, and will never be back. My point to this review, is that staff make an establishment, and they are front house, representing an establishment. However on that day, they really let the restaurant down.
Thankfully, the bakers were opposite so I could get something to eat!

Food overpriced given portion size and quality. £12 for the fish and chips...I expected a bigger portion and better presentation given the price. Mushrooms - small portion and nothing special. Wife enjoyed her steak pie. Nice to visit the oldest pub in Ayr but wouldn't eat there again.

Never enjoyed much
The starter, mushrooms were over cooked fat too high in my opinion tatties n mince came as mince n chips no read the cheque soz new chef or not and he sounded as if he did not want to be there looked dirty and uninterested in his duty as a chef, the waitress was great and was very attentive chef gets 1 ☆ waitress gets 4 ☆

We had a small dog with us so had to have lunch in the attached bar next door. My husband had a good meal, mince and tatties, but I had Cullen skink which was very tasty but to say it was Luke warm would be to exaggerate the level of heat! Basically cold fish soup!

We called in, on Sunday morning to book a table for 2pm next to the window. We arrived at 2pm and shown to our table and given the restaurant main menu, but also shown the specials board which had a choice of 2 courses for £9.95 or 3 courses for £12.95. We chose from the specials board, soup to start and 1 beef and 1 belly pork. The meal and service was excellent

I had lunch in Tam O' Shanters with some friends. The place was busy as it is very popular. However, despite the fact that the place was so busy, the service was excellent and the food was delicious.
We did not have to wait long for our meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I can definitely recommend the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.

does this pub stock some famous Scottish beers and ales such as "Wickertribe" and "Nellie's Tipple"
My mate from scarborough is coming up to ayr for a beano in a few weeks and am looking for some good wee pubs to go to. I have also been told that a pub called the small windows has a great wee atmosphere.

not sure, I think they have some reasonable IPA beer, but the rest is standard, such as McEwan's Tennant's etc.
