Today our members visited the Pearse museum in Saint Enda’s in Rathfarnham. Our host and guide Carmel (OPW) was excellent informative and charming to our 14 members. On arrival after introduction I told Carmel I always write a piece about our tour guide and I have to say she did not disappoint us.
Her in-depth knowledge of her subject was top notch.
She told us about the life and times of PH Pearse, and what the backdrop was to him becoming involved in revolutionary politics and action, his love of the Irish language and culture his strengths and weaknesses.
We also learned about the history of Saint Enda’s the house, and it’s diverse types of owners. Then to the basement where artefacts pictures in a modern setting which is top class and up to the top of the building where there is a stunning view of the Dublin countryside and city.
We then adjourned to the adjoining court yard cafe for coffee a chat and review of a really nice morning.

Worth visiting

Set in the quiet St Enda's Park, Rathfarnham, this museum is definitely worth a visit. This noble building, with a modern extension, houses lots of interesting memorabilia, letters, photos etc on the life of the nationalist hero Padraig Pearse. No charge to enter. Located in the previous home of the hero, and also where a school was run and in which he taught.

Wonderful

This is a gem of a museum with so much history. I learned a huge amount about the Pearse family. It also gave great insight into Pearse himself. It goes beyond his political life and you find out so much more about the man and his upbringing. It's well worth a visit, there was beautiful music from a concert orchestra on our visit as it was a Sunday, which finished the day nicely. Our tour guide was excellent with our young children too.

a moving historical experience

I was really impressed with this museum, a very good permanent exhibition downstairs and then at ground level, Patrick Pearse's office, the great hall where they had all the visiting lecturers and the art, the plaster casts and the nature exhibits that they actually used for education at St Enda's, the bilingual school set up by Pearse in oposition to the English education system of the time. Well worth a visit!

Free admission and nice guides.
The house / museum is excellent and the exhibitions are very informative.
The History focuses on the life of Patrick Pearse, his role as a teacher and leader of the 1916 rising.
Do take the time to visit here, i highly recommend it.

Fascinating piece of history

I confess that, even though I'm Irish, I hadn't heard of the Pearse Museum until I went looking for recommended museums prior to my recent trip to Dublin. I walked from Dundrum Shopping Centre (thanks TripAdvisor contributors for your help with directions!) which took about 30 minutes through a very attractive residential area. The museum was fascinating, a magnificent building set in beautiful parkland. The combination of museum-type exhibit on the lower floor and preserved rooms above was just right. The guy on reception was very helpful and friendly. A gem.

Comprendre l'Irlande
jun.

Brilliant place. Must do to understand crucial part of Irish history

Take the 16 bus out of the center of Dublin to this Museum that was once a school run by Patrick Pearse, one of the orchestrators of the 1916 Easter Rising and later killed at Kilmainham jail. He promoted the education of the Irish language (Gaelic) and all classes were taught here in both Irish and English. It was run by both Patrick and his brother. The home is lovely to walk around and imagine how the students lived. It also happens to sit on some exquisite park land with a brook and bridge and lovely walking trails. It's about 20 minutes by bus out of central Dublin. The bus driver will tell you where to get off. And it's free to enter.
