Had a lovely guided history tour today. Our guide was so vibrant and full of passion for the history and had some very amusing and true anecdotes to liven up the tour as well.
We were a little late and they were very accommodating.
I would highly recommend.

A little bit of a challenge to reach from central Dublin, but entirely worth the effort. Our guide was extremely informative, interesting, and made the 45 minute tour seem like a walkabout with a friend.
We took the regular tour. If we lived in Dublin I would certainly be a member and enjoy the special tours. Overall the experience was wonderful.

Today we visited Farmleigh House and estate for our monthly tour and we were given a guided tour by Margaret whose knowledge of the history of the house is extensive. Our eighteen members who attended expressed their view that the tour was excellent. Post the tour we visited the coffee shop on site and viewed the beautiful estate, I have no hesitation in recommending this venue for an interesting day out.

this was such a nice trip i would reccomend to everybody. from the gardens surrounding the estate to the lakes and the farm animals, everything was so dreamy and beautiful. the inside of the house was as beautiful as the outside if not better. it is an experience you must have while visiting dublin

Lovely tour with Denise on Friday afternoon. This mansion was beautiful inside and out. A tour not to be missed! Denise was knowledgeable and passionate and provided history and culture as we walked through the mansion. The hand made silk tapestries were gorgeous as were the huge tapestries that hung in the dining room and hallways. The atrium was light and airy, and the chairs in the front entrance held a bit of a surprise! Lovely tour and highly recommend. Worth the visit (even though a bit off the beaten path!). A lovely visit with a lovely little cafe. Don’t miss the walled garden outside. Grounds were worth the trip alone! Thanks to Denise for giving us a grand tour! Deborah and Ed Kilkenny 😁

Boathouse Restaurant on the Family Estate
Dreadful service , waited near half an hour for a meal we ordered and my second inquiry at the cash desk as to why it took so long I was told it was in the oven and did I want it taken from the oven then!!!! After this sarcastic reply I requested my money back.
Suggest they treat people with better respect

Guided tour was very interesting, it added a lot to the visit. You cannot visit the house without being in a guided tour. The house is beautiful, some rooms are breathtaking. Personnel was very nice and friendly. The main negative side is that, if you don’t have a car, you must walk a very long time to go there. Public transport is not easy, and taxis will not pick you up there (we waited over 1 hour at the gate after calling one, and they never came).

I enjoyed a fantastic tour of Farmleigh House recently, a beautiful place, broght alive by a brilliant guide.
The gardens are beautiful, particularly the Sunken Garden and Walled Garden and the Farmleigh Estate has some beautiful walks, particularly by the lake and along the Beech path.
However, if you are coming to Farmleigh, I cannot recommend a tour of the house strongly enough.
It is run brilliantly by the OPW and the house can be seen by guided tour only. They go hourly and last about 50 minutes. I was lucky enough to be rhe only one there on my visit so I had the olace and the guide all to myself! I was doubly fortunate to have a guide called Denise who was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Farmleigh and really brought the place alive with stories of the Guinness family, the house and its history, the famous heads if state who have stayed here and the various artworks and furnishings in the house.
The tour starts at the front door and you see the grand entrance hall and the ornate dining room with period tapestries. You will also be brought to the ballroom complete with its original floor and the fantastic conservatory added to the house around the turn of the 20th century.
Upstairs you will see the snooker room, boudoir and one of the state bedrooms.
The highlight for me was the beautiful library. It has first editions of James Joyces Ulysses and Johnathan Swifts Gullivers Travels from 1726 I think. The libraraian, Nuala I think her name might have been, went beyond the call and actually fetched these absolute gems down from the shelves to show me. I cannot believe I saw original first editions, immaculately kept by the way, at such close quarters. I will never forget that moment to be honest.
Anyway, an absolutely captivating tour even before the library moment! I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a museum or tour as much. Thanks OPW and thanks Denise!

What's the best (cheapest?) way to get there from Dublin?

You can get the number 37 Bus from Ushers Quay in Dublin City to the Gate of the Phoenix park.
From there it's a 10 minute walk to The Farmleigh estate.
You could get a cab from the city centre also or bicycle rental is also available at the front entrance to the Phoenix park.
