A very nice tour of this peninsula with a few oodigs (do not skip the Oratory) and great viewpoints over the rugged cliffs.

A beautiful little seaside resort town. There are 2 main areas where pubs, restaurants and stores are located. One being close to the water, the other further inland. Both are worth a visit. Had a wonderful experience with our taxi driver Donnchadh (087 235 2678) who we used every day. Very quick responses, wonderful conversation and insights that you won't get anywhere else.

Fourth stop on our tour of Ireland. Especially because of the enthusiastic stories we went here. And the city hasn't let us down. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly and cozy. Nice streets with lots of colored houses. Certainly also the side of the harbor some nice pubs with nice terraces. Plenty of pubs and restaurants, only I would advise against the Fishbox. You can't make a reservation and that 2x we wanted to eat there (half past 8 and 6) it was full and we would have to wait 1,5 (!) hours. We had our reservations. The Dingle Pub is very cozy and has good food and beers of course. Everything is within walking distance, because the town is not that big.

Dingle Peninsula
My husband courageously navigated us from Cork to Dingle along quaint but challenging one lane backroads to Dingle Peninsula. As passenger princess I enjoyed the views but it is no joke for the driver as cars take turns moving through narrow curvy roads with blind spots galore. Our first stop was Inch Strand (beach) which has surprisingly warm water and was a beachcombers delight with various shells to inspect like razor/Atlantic Jackknife. Farther was Dingle which is a harbor city full of cute shops, some small and big Made in Ireland shops, lively eateries, famous Murphy's ice cream, and plenty of seating areas around and colorful picnic tables too. We took a walk around a park trail on the marina and could see kayakers, Eask Tower could be seen across the water, Hussey's Folly was visible across the water and can be walked to. We drove to Hussey's Folly where you can pass by sheep grazing, and a small beach area where people were sunbathing. Also took a drive to amazing Dunquin where you can take a zig zag staircase down to the water. Amazing views.

Did a self-guided driving tour of the dingle peninsula and had a wonderful time. The views are amazing, and well worth it. We also stopped at one of the ancient beehive sites along the southern coast (the 2nd one, of 3). It was interesting even for the teenagers, although didn't spend too much time there.
Found dunquin pier cool but would encourage to just stop off when possible and go take in the views. We wrapped Gallarus oratory before heading back to dingle for the night. Could easily add more time for hiking but was very drivable in a day as we had very little traffic to contend with.

For us, we preferred the drive around the Dingle Peninsula to the Ring of Kerry. While they both have different and interesting views, we liked the opportunity to view the ocean from the roadside and there was more opportunity to do this on the Dingle Peninsula. Interesting fact we learned as well was the stone walls are called Penny Walls as during the Famine, landowners paid a penny a day plus a bowl of soup to laborers to lay stones for walls.

Everyone talks about the Ring of Kerry as a "must see" when you visit. And Rof K is amazing....but Dingle Peninsula is better. There seemed to be fewer tourists on the drive, and I would swear that the grass was greener and the seas were bluer. And it's a shorter drive with very little time when you aren't just staring out the window, or looking for the next place to pull off and take pictures. It's just amazing. And the little town of Dingle has got to be what you think of when you think of a "fishing town". Don't miss this one.

Anyone know if you can still drive from N Ireland to here in a motorhome ?
Skrevet 17. oktober 2020
Ciao, la prox settimana farò un viaggio in moto in irlanda. Devo scegliere tra penisola di Dingle oppure Galway+Cliff of Moher: che mi consigli?
Skrevet 29. august 2018
scelta difficile, forse penisola di Dingle.
Buon viaggio

We do not have enough time and we are considering seeing Dingle peninsula instead of Ring of kerry. Which one is better?
Skrevet 3. april 2017
If you are short on time, choose Dingle peninsula hands down. Ring of Kerry is very long, very touristy, and you get a better feel for the real Ireland in Dingle.

When I was in Dingle, Ireland, there were some very nice paintings displayed (attached) to a wall or fence right on the high street.
I didn't take photos because I didn't want to violate the artists' copyrights.
Now I wish I could see them again and share them with friends. Is there a website showing them or giving info about them?
Skrevet 23. november 2016
I am not picturing where exactly these are. But based on my wonderful connection to the people there, if they are out in public view, the Irish love to spread their history and love for their area. I don't think they would be offended--if no photography allowed there would be a sign posting that. Perhaps if you reply and and give me what the paintings are about and where, I am pretty sure I can figure out how you can find them now. Example, what is one of the murals about? I am pretty sure I can get more information for you and where you can find them on internet or Dingle Peninsula website. Let me know and I will find where you can get them

How far is the Dingle Peninsula from Dublin?
Skrevet 25. mai 2016
It's on the other side of the country. I would google drive times.
