The interactive museum in Killarney house, was free entry, but was really well thought out in its presentation of the area, its history, and environment and natural history. Gardens were beautiful to walk around ...an unexpected gem.

i visited this house and gardens in august 2023. this museum is wonderful if you’re looking for a free day out. it was brilliant. the ladies at the reception were extremely helpful and very pleasant. the museum itself was fantastic, very informative. i learned a lot about the local wildlife in Killarney and there was lots of information about the scenery including the lakes, the forests and the mountains. although it was a rainy day, the wonderful house and gardens made up for it. the flowers were absolutely beautiful and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a wild deer like i did! the house and museum itself is in a central area, just a 10 minute walk from the train station. i will definitely be visiting again.

Fine place to stop and walk around if you need something to do. It can't compete with hiking in the nearby national park. But it's cute and free! There are a few small beds but the 'gardens' are mainly an open field. We met a sika deer on the grounds. She was quite patient with children petting her and disturbing her supper. I might have kicked.

In mid-June the moss roses surrounding Killarney House were fragrant even from a distance and made a good showing. The long perennial border was just coming into bloom with summer perennials like phlomis, daylilies, blue and pink perennial geraniums, and grasses. It was a lovely stroll though. We crossed over on the lawn to view the formal beds where blue cat's mint was a nice contrast to pale yellow and pink daisies, red verbena, and pink cosmos. Allow about 20 minutes for a garden stroll.

The garden is free as is the house which has interesting exhibits about the history of the house - how the appearance of the house changed with its owners - and lovely photos of the natural landscape in the area. It was interesting to read about the lilac rhodos that are now naturalizing and becoming a nuisance and why the hills are deforested. There was no mention, however, of the fuchsia bushes I had seen growing wild in many places along the hedges by the road. These displays fill each room. There is no furniture in any of the rooms. WC are available.

Allow about 45 minutes for the house and garden visit. This attraction is across the road from Killarney Plaza Hotel and the round about where the jaunty carts (horse and buggy) stay. There is a large sign in front of the entrance to ensure visitors know where to enter the property.

I, together with my wife Ros and two friends, visited Killarney House in May. It is hard to believe that such a beautiful setting is right in the town of Killarney - just hidden behind a high wall that borders the National Park. We were struck by the friendliness and professionalism of Diane and other staff who were very helpful and informative about what was to be seen in the House.
I think it is fair to say that Killarney House has two rather different themes. Firstly, some of the grand rooms have been restored with the original furniture, art and photographs, and tableware and these chronicle the history of the house and the families who lived there. And secondly, the exhibition includes a very impressive audiovisual and interactive representation of the National Park with fantastic drone video footage and much else besides. Any visitor who is planing to explore, walk or cycle in the National Park would do well to first visit the exhibition - it creates a wonderful context for all that can be seen in the beautiful landscape beyond.
The extensive garden to the west of Killarney House is open to the public and has wonderful views of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks - the highest mountain range in Ireland.

One of the best museum/exhibits I've been to in many many years. The whole area is gorgeous and Killarney House gives you a beautifully presented history of it; with a focus on the environmental priorities and the people whose life mission it is to keep it as fabulous as it is.
I just wish I could've bought a book to bring back and read it all at a slower pace.
I will need to return. Maybe alone, so I can take my time!

What a place of beauty and tranquility these gardens are, just in the town but you notice the noise of traffic subside immediately upon entering. The planting is wonderful and you can take your time just admiring the views or the foliage. Ideal for walkers and joggers, those wanting to have a stroll and a chat. Ideal! Car parking available just across the road too and the lovely statue of Monsignor O'Flaherty just outside.

We cycled around the lovely gardens of Killarney house but didn't go into the house. They are very pretty, with good pathways if you have to push a stroller, and not too big. The house is in Killarney town itself, so easily accessible from town - and free. Very pleasant for a morning stroll.

Lovely grounds to walk, beautiful house exterior. The inside is now redone and set up for modern exhibits (not like a reproduction home). The gardens and lawn are fabulous.
