This is a beautiful arboretum with much to see. The cafe had just reopened, so we enjoyed a teas and cakes before exploring. Stunning and peaceful lake, a lot of walkign involved so do wear sensible shoes or boots armed with a stout stick or arm if necessary. There is an exhibition of how it was built and JFK himself plus tree information. Do not miss the Viewpoint, very windy road up but dramatic views over the surrounding countryside. Reasonable charge to visit. There may be at least one or more school groups visiting but plenty of space to avoid them!

Beautiful gardens so well cared for and manicured. Such a variety of trees, really lovely. Very reasonably priced. Great play area for children beside the coffee shop. We'll worth a visit.

We went to the park yesterday with a wheelchair user the staff was so friendly and helpful. We got a car pass for the grounds and the wheelchair user and all other parties enjoyed the trip. We would highly recommend it is well worth a visit.

It's many years, maybe 40, since we last visited so obviously the trees have grown a lot! We enjoyed our walk around the parkland and by the lake but the map on the leaflet wasn't easy to follow. As keen gardeners ourselves we were disappointed to see some of the smaller plants needing care e.g. escollania choked with brambles. And I've lots of photos of plants to identify! We hadn't brought a picnic and were disappointed that the café wasn't open on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend. The drive up to the Sliabh Coillte viewing point was well worth it for the views on a breezy but lovely sunny afternoon.

had the pleasure of a guided tour from Gerry. he was absolute fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
This is a great way to see the park if you have a disability.

This is a beautiful park with a lovely lake and the trees were in full bloom. I’m a JFK buff so the visitor centre was of particular interest, but the cafe was closed for some reason - a big missed opportunity. Despite that, still worth going to see.

A park and arboretum extremely well kept and laid out.
For colour and flower impact I think late spring would be my favourite time to visit. Staff exceptionally pleasant and offered advice on trails and exhibitions. They are clearly passionate about their place of work.
Plenty of trails, well marked out, ie The Lake Walk, picnic tables were in abundance, well laid out and clean.
And lover of easy walking with love of plants, flowers and trees will be happy to visit.

It's a long time since I was at the arboretum, but I decided to visit it last week. I have to say it was really disappointing and if you are planning a visit, similar to some other contributors I would say, don't waste your time. First of all I should say it is a beautiful place, with many different kinds of trees, so as an arboretum it does what it says! However, the visitor supports are really poor. There is a big childrens playground which looks very good, but that seems to be what it has become - a playground with some walks around.
The day I was there there were no staff. The only information available to take away were one or two activities for children, no map to guide you around, no listening devices to help you in what you are seeing. The visitor centre has a very small exhibition about John F Kennedy, which is interesting, but when I went to the loo, I found another exhibition about trees, which isn't signposted at all! I'd be surprised if anyone finds it. I happened to find it as I was interested to see what was at the end of the toilet corridor!!
The toilets, although clean had no toilet paper or hand towels AND I see from other contributors that if you are down at the playground with your children, you have to come back to the visitor centre to get toilets - this is about 1/2 km, which means dragging other kids back with you.
There is no coffee shop - that's closed down and there is just a van selling coffee and unhealthy snacks, so bring food with you.
From the visitor centre there is no signage. Once you get down to the playground there is some signage but it is poor. There was a framed map up at the visitor centre, which we tried to memorise and follow, but it was very inadequate.
It was very disappointing, the place just seemed dead. I contrast it with Mount Congreve or the Botanic Gardens at Kilmacurragh, they all have done so much to connect with visitors with signage near trees etc.
The arboretum is in honour of John F Kennedy, President of the United States and it is embarrassing in terms of the experience. I hate to say it because I love trees, but don't go our of your way to visit - very disappointing.

total waste of time & petrol nothing to see no one to interact with we had no idea what it was about or why it had anything to do with JFK and staff around but not engaging
