We walked from Harrogate to Knaresborough along a path which featured big bits of the ring way

It was a fair old walk, expected 7 miles felt more like 8-9

The bit along the river was really nice, quite uneven but lots of boardwalks although there were lots of missing planks to watch your step

Lots of places to stop and paddle

The town of Harrogate is not huge so the name Harrogate ring way implies it’s a short walk but it’s not. Very picturesque with beautiful scenery along the way. Allow yourself time or nip in and out and break it up.

I have just completed the walk today in about 6 hours and 40 minutes without going too fast (I am not an amateur though). I downloaded View Ranger on my phone last night as I was not planning to do this but the idiots that set fire to the Yorkshire Moors did not leave much of a choice. I would have preferred an old fashion map but there you go. View Ranger advises to start at Stonefall Cemetery but that does not make any sense as parking is virtually impossible around there. I have had to leave the car on a side road about 500 yards from the cemetery. Some online reviewers suggest commencing at Harlow Carr where you can park for free. It would also make sense to begin at Hornbeam Park as you can get there by train from town or park at the station or near the climbing wall for no money. I have enjoyed 2/3 of the walk, especially the sections around Harlow Carr, Birk Crag and the Nidd Gorge (although it was full of bare chested people having a picnic being a BH Monday). I did not like the 3.5 Km on tarmac in Jennyfield and the latest section (for me) about 1 Km after Knaresborough. Overall I think I would do it again. It is advisable to carry plenty of water and the usual gear. I always wear my trustworthy Scarpa boots but there is nothing too difficult to manage so a good pair of walking shoes would do.

Just completed the Harrogate Ringway Walk today. Started in Knaresbrough since this is closer to my home. Excellent circular walk clocking 22miles on my GPS watch from the town car park. There are so many paths that intersect the Ringway and housing has encroached making it sometimes difficult to stay on track. I walked anti-clockwise and maybe that might make a difference. Having recently walked most of the Wakefield Way i was spoiled by the number of way marks specifically for this walk. Maybe a refresh of some tricky parts is required here. Otherwise enjoy

Замечательное место для тех, кто любит долгие пешие прогулки. Замечательный виды на мосты. Один мост действующий, а второй старый заброшенный.

We failed to complete the 20 miles as we ran out of time and needed to be back in Harrogate. The walk was lovely, albeit very wet. Some great contrasts with lovely views mixed with "urban" areas. Must be a way to avoid walking alongside the A61 as well. Walking boots a must at the moment. Stopped in Pannal and purchased lunch from the Station Co Op. Made a slight mistake around the showground but ended up arriving in Knaresborough correctly. We have done the walk back from Knaresborough to Harrogate before. Get a map. Phone was a challenge.

I run this 20mile loop and find it one of the most beautiful walks in the area.

There are some lovely countryside views, and it runs by some nice pubs for refreshments if you need it, and it loops Harrogate, whilst also incorporating the Knaresborough waterside.

There are a couple of area that are a little dodgy underfoot, such as the Birk Crag area, and the Nidd Gorge section, so take care. Also, if you are walking with a dog, there are a couple of sections through open farmland and sheep/cows so be sure to keep it controlled.

To walk, it's a day's effort, with plenty of pubs to choose from on the route. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that unfortunately some housing developments have encroached on the walk, and so some of the sections are just through residential areas.

Super walk which can be accessed from anybody’s house who lives in H’Gate, 20 miles in all, which can be split obviously to suit- the one part I hate is the crossing of the Wetherby Road so be careful!! The knaresborough round (except the very wet wood section)is my preferred similar walk and if you want more the ripon rowel is great in more sections as it is longer. I have done this walk many times and am surprised at how few people know about it!!

I run a section of this from Kent Road through Birk Crag up to Harlow Carr regularly. It is a lovely woodland stretch which is so peaceful - you can't believe you are so close to town. Great long distance views from the top of the crag, obscured a bit by trees at the moment. Chances are you won't meet anyone else at all. The ground can be a bit sticky underfoot in places and there are a couple of quad busting climbs in this section. Dog walkers - can you please clean up after your animals? Thank you.

This really is a great walk, and can be done in sections, as well as in one go. It's easily accessible by public transport, and the terrain is very varied. It's been extremely quiet whenever I've walked it, and it's hard to believe you're so close to Harrogate and Leeds. I'm not complaining, but it deserves to be more popular.
