I had been in the area previously but this was the first time that I found this museum open. It is an interesting small military museum over three levels. There is quite a range of history on show mostly about the Gloucester Regiment and the Royal Gloucester Hussars. The entry fee was modest at £5 for adults and concessions a pound less.

Excellent museum on all levels and for all ages. Good explainations / labelling across the years and various campains Also the social conditions in the C18th century were explored, and the harsh arrangements for widows of sodiers , who wete expected to quickly find a new (replacement) husband or be evicted, along with any offspring.
The bravery and tradgey of the Gloster regiment during the Korean Police action (war) of the early 1950s, this naturally figures strongly, and is explained well, not ommitting some very unpleasant details, but it is certainly worth spending time to delve into the rear guard action that helped save South Korea.
This is a real gem, and an intreging place for visitors of all ages.

Absolutely fantastic place. The guide and the manager chatted with us for ages. There was an old soldier there the day we went and we also chatted to him. The museum has recently moved and it's now in Jury Street. Really easy to find.

Set around Gloucester Quay…..we spent a good hour reading and walking round the museum. It cost us £4 each as seniors and even though we weren’t particularly interested in the Gloucester Regiments, we both found it very interesting and well done. I even learnt some new interesting facts!! Friendly staff too and a small cafe serving cakes and drinks.

One for the military historians, or those interested in the British Army regiments or with family ties. It offers an excellent - well-written and well-illustrated with well-chosen exhibits - history of the regiment, up to the modern day (post-amalgamation into the Rifles Regiment). Strong sense of the individual soldier comes through, including the bravery and mundanity of infantry life.

Cost was relatively high though, and would probably rule out a family visit. While the small shop was directed towards children, the museum as a whole was not (although there were some parts dedicated to children).

We visited here during the Summer Holidays where there was a trail to do which the youngest enjoyed trying to find secret letters. There is quite a range of miltary stuff cramed in to what is quite a small musuem but worth the visit & would imagine we'll be going back at some point.

A vast amount of detailed information about historic wars from the 17th century to the modern day including a section on the Falklands war. Whilst concentrated on the role of the Gloucester Regiments it portrays a wider remit. The only downside is the amount of detail can become brain overload.

The museum is well signposted and an easy walk from the town centre and car park. It was not a lot of money to get in - it only cost us £12.50 as a family of 4. Although not a huge place, the museum is very informative and extremely interesting. The staff were exceptionally friendly and one gentleman, Len, walked around the museum with us and told us all the backstories to the items - things that we may not have noticed if he wasn't there! It was great talking to and learning from him, and we would all really recommend this place!

First ..some context... My grandfather, who lived in Cheltenham, was in the 1/5 Glos Regt volunteer Btn, and won the MC for taking command of his unit at the Somme, when all the officers had been killed. By chance a couple of years ago, I happened on a web site dedicated to Cheltenham's contribution to WW1 war effort, and have been in contact with the historian - Neela Mann - who made significant contribution to it... and from her have received much additional information about my grand-father and photos in his military context.... I discovered that my grandfather, was depicted in a painting, where he was heading a column of soldiers, who were meeting several officers in a French village.... I have been so fortunate to have met Neela, and recently been given a private tour of the museum, with her, by Len Ward , the museum guide.... My wife and I were privileged to have had a tour with his extensive knowledge of the history of The Glos Reg , and to put some context to my grand-father's war experience... What I hadnt appreciated was the extent of The Regt's involvement in so many conflicts and how long ago the Regt had been formed.... We were so grateful to have had this opportunity to visit, and for the extensive knowledge of Len and Neela in their differing areas of historical and military expertise.... Even more to have the privilege of having a viewing, not always available, of the famous 'Winterbotham' Painting , in which my grandfather is preserved for posterity.... If you are interested in military history, and especially that of The Glos Regt,,, you need to visit.....

We had a fantastic visit to this museum. Parking is well signposted ( Gloucester Quays) and is a few minutes walk. The staff at the museum were friendly and it is a well laid out and informative experience. There’s a good mix of personal anecdotes with the bigger picture. There’s a fun dressing up section too, I never realised how heavy modern body armour was! Good fun and great value.
