Following advanced contact, i was lucky to be able to pop in for a chat with the owners and try the cheese. This is part of a working farm and i'm not sure if tours are officially offered but if you see their cheese at farmers markets or farm shops i'd definitely recommend buying some. Authentic local produce made with love!

This was authentic experience, with a warm welcome. Really interesting and educated me on cheese making and the care and attention involved. Oh and buying cheese is a must!

Friendly farming family and some of the nicest cheese I’ve tasted for a long while. Worth a stop if in the area. A bit hard to find but keep going down the lane

We made our way to Smarts Cheese Farm - very rural location but beautiful countryside. We had rung in advance of our visit so we were expected. Mr Smart was very welcoming, and very passionate and informative about his cheeses. Told us the story of the farm and how his mother started making cheese. He patiently went through the cheese making process, happy to answer our questions. Going into the storage fridge where the cheeses rested in the process was amazing, what an aroma.
We happily bought cheeses to take home.

It was so interesting to hear about the process of making the cheese. Didn't even know there was a single Gloucester cheese, so living and learning. The end results were very tasty too. Would advise wellies if it has rained recently though.

My partner and I were trying to find something to do on our last day visiting Gloucestershire and decided to go for something cheesy. We found Smart's farm which was the only one open that afternoon where we could watch the cheese making process. We rang them up and they were very accommodating even though it was quite last minute. We were the only guests there, apart from a BBC radio presenter doing a piece about cheese making. We were able to see several stages of the process and allowed to taste the earlier stages as well as take a turn at grinding some cheese curds up. They didn't ask for a fee to see the cheese being made, but had I not been a broke student I would have given them a donation. We did buy some cheese; a double Gloucester, a single Gloucester, and their own version of parmesan, which is also vegetarian. I was inspired to try and make my own cheese at home, am still getting around to it, but will some day!

Firstly it's hard to get to (you have to leave or cross a very busy road to get to it), and it is down a long farm track and in a farmyard (expect mud in wet conditions). The food is in a fridge in a side room and not stocked frequently, I didn't see anyone else around (it was 2pm on a Friday).
The demonstrations are only on certain days but we couldn't find details of when they were and the flyers/tourist information does not tell you this.
Very disappointing.

For Easter break went down to Gloucester and wanted to buy a farmers cheese with high quality. Visit this place where we had a warm welcome and been told a bit of history of the farm and cheese production. We tried the most amazing cheese ever! Highly recommended if you are in Gloucester!

What a great place. I popped in on the off chance to buy some local cheese for myself and cheese loving friends. When I arrive the farmer greeted me enthusiastically and took me through to the pantry.
A quick tour (I was en route and was short of time) and he gave me a tasting of all three cheeses he makes.
Purchased four pieces for £12.00 bargain for local artisan cheese and a tasting tour!!
If you love cheese go visit.

If you love cheese this is the place to visit. This farm has been in the business of cheese making for a long time and specialises in Gloucester cheese. Best to phone before hand but we turned up on the off chance and were extremely welcomed by the farmer/cheesemaker who was only too willing to explain the whole process of making Gloucester cheese in a very clean environment. They make three cheeses here - Single, Double and Harefield (extra mature). We arrived in the morning after the whey had been drained and the process of stacking was taking place. To see the pressing of the cheeses in the moulds you have to return in the afternoon (unfortunately we could not do this). This farmer is a true artisan and although the cost is more expensive than the supermarket you are buying a premium, quality product and supporting local farmers who care about what they are doing and how they produce a quality product. Website:www.smartsgloucestercheese.com. A recommended visit for anyone who loves cheese. My only tip: watch where you are walking outside the dairy - what goes in cows also has to come out at the other end. However, this should not put you off visiting this great attraction - and remember to support local farmers by buying this great cheese!
