I visited a couple of days ago but left it so late in the day I have to go back for more, it's a place for everyone from babies and toddlers who can go along and paint and there's also a library which I am returning to. For artists who hit a block and need inspiring then this is the place for you.

I revisited the New Art gallery in Walsall as on my previous visit, the Garman Kelly collection was not available to view.
This is a marvellous collection of art. Plenty of great individual works from the likes of Modigliani, Monet, Degas, JMW Turner, Picasso and Delacroix amongst others.
Kathleen Garman had three children with Jacob Epstein and there are many of his sculptures, drawings and paintings on display.
Daughter Kitty was also the first wife of Lucien Freud and his iconic portrait of her is on show too.
I really liked the vibrant work of Theodore Garman whose life was sadly too brief.
There were also a couple of works by Theodore Gericault, of Raft of the Medusa fame.
Unfortunately Sorrow by Van Gogh was out on loan to an American gallery at the time of my visit.
I spent a very enjoyable hour or so browsing here.
Admission is free.

The Garman Ryan collection is a nice collection representing many different artists and periods but it is the quirky collection of individuals and much of it is sketches which are fascinating to see the artist at work but hardly merit being framed and put on permanent display. There are a few pictures I love going back to see.
What I do not appreciate is having a certain agenda rammed down my throat at every turn.
One room had a video presentation: in a large concrete space you need to get the sound and the volume right - I couldn't understand a word of it. Does no-one check?

Walsall art gallery, what's with displaying pornography? Isn't this meant to be a family friendly environment? Definitely won't be visiting here again! Absolutely disgusting, take it down!

Can not believe I have not reviewed this place before. Fantastic for the local community, lot of work shops . Some times free, other times low cost. enjoyed the Bangra danicing a couples of months ago!

A nice gallery with some exceptional art. It is well laid out and well worth a visit - it's free! The best thing though is that the voice in the lift is Noddy Holder!

Absolutely brilliant gallery and staff extremely helpful, thank you Julie and John plus gentleman at desk on entry. We had travelled 40 miles and were hungry when we arrived and helpful staff informed us of a nearby café. There is only a Costa Coffee attached to the gallery. On our return after being fortified we found the gallery was fully open with a variety of exhibitions. Including the permanent collection containing Jacob Epstein's work plus Theodore Garmin's work.
A new exhibition of Yasmin David's work was fantastic, if there was a down side it is that there wasn't any publications of her work to purchase in the small shop. Local artists also had an exhibition showing work relating to Covid lockdown. Other exhibitions of more modern work was on the higher floors. Julie was amazing and gave my friend and I what could be described as a private guide to some of the items in the permanent collection. My friend and I spent 3 hours in the gallery, well worth every minute. The gallery hopes to start tours on the first Saturday of the month focussing on 3 items.
I had not been for 18 years and will certainly not leave it that long again. (Plus I might not be alive in 18 years). There are so many gems in this gallery and something for everyone and all ages.

Bit of an unexpected gem in downtrodden Walsall.
Lots of interest works in here in a fairly modern building. Wasn't expecting much but spent 1-2 hours here in the end. Some big names represented - Picasso, Monet, Renoir, Constable etc. A good mixture of paintings and sculpture.
There's also an area with revolving residency exhibitions.
Definitely worth a day trip if your staying in Birmingham.

All galleries were open/ It was our first visit to the Gallery and what a surprise, some real gems by artist such as Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh and many more. Loved the themed rooms rather than by artist so you could view portraits through the ages.
I was pleasantly surprised how may rooms there were. And its free. Well worth a visit.

Nothing much to see, only one floor out of four actually open, waste of bus fare. Wish we'd gone to Wolverhampton instead.
