PROS
* Brilliant statue of a brilliant statesman who helped save and liberate France
* Good representation of him
CONS
* It is set off to the side of the Petit palais building and not in a prominent location at all
* There is not much description of who he was and why he is honored
* The elongated plinth that he stands on looks like the cover of a grave
i 'VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I came across it by chance in October 2019 while walking from Les Invalides and across Pont Alexander III past Petit Palais to Place de la Concorde via the southeastern section of Champs Elysées.
Now, in April 2024, I wanted to return and see and admire it again, and of course to take "helpful" 👍 photographs 📷- mission accomplished.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free to be there
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure- I'd like to see this again
ADVICE

Avenue Winston Churchill invited you to see a statue of the man himself in the grounds of Petit Palais very close to the Pont Alexandre III bridge. A leader who won’t be forgotten in France or the UK is here for all to pay tribute to.

I almost didn’t spot this. But something stopped me in my tracks. The potato-shaped head, the cane, the stooped shoulders. One thought popped into my head: Winston Churchill!
As indeed it was. It’s nice to see a monument to him in Paris but at the same time, if they were going to do it, it should have been grander. The man did a lot for France.

There are not many statues of foreign dignitaries in Paris. This one was commissioned five years after a statue of Charles de Gaulle was unveiled in London, with £250,000 in donations. It is 3.2 metre tall and weighs 2,500 kg.

Some pleasant outdoor art outside the Petit Palais. I noted it after my visit to the Palais, right by the traffic circle and in the shade.

A lovely statue to the great Winston Churchill, standing very proud in the grounds of the Petit Palace, well worth a look.

Located within the grounds of the Petite Palais, stands (actually walking) a statue of the commanding politician, enough said.

What a great statue of a brilliant Brutish politician who played such a major role in twentieth century French history (yes- that’s a typographical error but it fit so perfectly to describe the gentleman that I decided to leave it uncorrected).
I came across it by chance while walking from Les Invalides and across Pont Alexander III past Petit Palais to Place de la Concorde via the southeastern section of Champs Elysées.
I have one photo to share.
The phrase that is the title of this review is the entire commencement address speech that he gave at a southern United States medical school in 1965 before his death.... but in describing history, I change the intonation to describe his predecessor’s approach to Germany before World War II- “Neville gave up.”

As we walked towards the Seine River we saw a bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill at the corner within the grounds of the Petit Palais. This is similar to another statue near Westminster Palace in London.

Wow! Thanks for asking. I'm crazy curious what's the deal with Churchill's ratty-looking coat in the statue at Petit Palais? The lower front looks almost bombed out, and I was wondering if it was sculpted that way or had an accident. I found a picture of the victory parade that was the basis for the statue, and his coat. looked perfectly fine. Thank you thank you!
