PROS
* This is the first section- very nice and scenic
* Touristy stuff: Louvre Museum, Tuileries Garden, Sainte-Chapelle and parts of the Seine River

CONS
One doesn't know that one is in number one when one is in number one

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it has the stuff listed above, which I have already reviewed her separately and previously

WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Being in the first arrondissement is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN/
Sure

The first arrondissement of Paris is, indeed, historically the first. It was here in 52 AD that the Gauls established +their first settlement. The Les Als quarter was built in medieval times around a market whose name was given to his famous novel "The Womb of Paris" by Emile Zola. In the late '60s, the Lez Al market was demolished, and in Mitterrand's time, a huge shopping mall was built in its place, the Lez Al Forum. It was supposed to be modern, functional, but it turned out a little ugly and lifeless... The Forum goes four floors down underground, integrated with one of the largest Paris metro stations. Next to the Forum is one of the most beautiful churches in Paris - Saint-Estache, i.e. St. Eustathius. Because it was in the middle of the market, so it was probably the most popular in Paris. Richelieu and Molière were baptized here and Lafontaine Turenne and Mirabeau were sung. Despite the mix of original Gothic with renaissance and classicism looks very pretty. Next to the church stands, or rather, a 70-ton sculpture by Henri Miller from 1986. A huge head with an arm Parisians call "Ear of Paris. Moving further south on the 1st arrondissement towards Cité we come across the Protestant church of Oratoire du Louvre. Nearby is a monument to Huguenot chief Admiral Gaspard Coligny, who was treacherously murdered by Catholics on Bartholomew's Night not far from here. Cross the Changel Bridge to Cité. The 1st arrondissement includes the western tip of Cité Island: without North Dame, but with the Palace of Justice and Conciergerie Castle. The famous Ménal Bridges and the Pont Neuf Lovers Bridge link Cité to the Right Bank. Unfortunately, under Baron Hausman, this part of old Paris was demolished, leaving only the Conciergerie and the famous Saint-Chapelle. The concierge turrets are romantic, but the history of this oldest prison in Paris suggests otherwise. Marie Antoinette, who wished Parisians to eat brownies, waited here for two months to die when she was told they had no bread. Charlotte Korde, who stabbed Marat, also sat in the concierge. A painting by Engras of this hangs opposite the Seine in the Louvre. A year later, Danton was in the cells, followed by Robespierre and Saint-Just. Interestingly, both nobles and Jacobins were tried by a tribunal with the same Fouquier-Tainville at the head, sending dozens of people to the guillotine of the Place de Greve every day. Since the mid-19th century, a new Palace of Justice has been built, hosting the most high-profile trials. Here, Dreyfus was eventually acquitted, sentenced to death by Mata Hari and convicted but not executed by the collaborator Petin. Behind the Palais de Justice at the western end of Cité is the triangular Place de la Dauphin, at the very end of which is a monument to France's most handsome king, Henry IV, who wanted all French people to have chicken on the table on Sunday. The construction of the nearby Pont Neuf Bridge was his idea, so it's not an accident. During the Revolution, however, the Sanculottes did not differentiate between kings and the statue was torn down. This one came after the Bourbon Restoration. Back on the Right Bank, it's clear to go to the Louvre. The collection of the world's largest museum is unseen in one or two days, so you have to decide what to watch. This is despite the fact that only 10-15% of the exhibits are on display. The Louvre is a former royal castle whose walls can be seen in an underground gallery. We enter the museum through a 21-meter glass pyramid, built also under Mitterrand and designed by the American Chinese Yo Min Pen. The map issued at the museum shows the main hits - Venus of Milos, Nika Samothraci, Gioconda. Some tourists go between them. The iconic Mona Lisa, along with the Italian Renaissance, is in the Denon Wing. She's got a line, security. After a certain number of hours in the Louvre, you can lie on the grass of the Tuileries garden to rest your feet. The royal palace used to stand on this site, but in 1871 the Paris communes demolished it. If you don't want to lie down, you can walk along the parallel rue Saint Honoré that Alexandre Dumas' heroes walked along. The street will lead to the Vendôme Column, which was cast from Russian and Austrian cannons captured after the victory at Austerlitz. The one on which Andrei Bolkonsky was lying on the field and staring at the sky at the end of the first volume of War and Peace. On top of the column is a statue of Napoleon. It has been demolished twice, by diametrically opposed forces. In 1818 the Royalists melted it down into a restored statue of Henry IV, and in 1871 Napoleon was torn down with the column as a symbol of militarism and Bonapartism. No metal from the cannons was found during the demolition...

The city's biggest tourist attractions are nearby, such as the Louvre museum, Tulleries garden, Orsey museum, etc. For those who don't know, the areas are snail-shaped.

Listing all the famous buildings in this neighborhood is almost a titanic undertaking. I limit myself to the Louvre museum and palace, the Palais Royal, the Bank of France, the Ministry of Justice among the palaces, Notre Dame, the Sainte Chapelle, Saint Eustache among the churches and the Tuileries gardens among the parks . In short, a concentration of masterpieces and things to see.

One comes to this area for the Louvre and the gardens around it. Also some of the busiest Metro and suburban train stations are here, so it's a crossroads. This is the heart of the business and market districts of the old city with some of the oldest buildings and streets.

Central district of Paris, undoubtedly the one with the highest "tourist rate" of the whole city, given the presence of the Louvre and many other sites of interest.
Charming but full of people at any time, it is certainly the first stop for any visit to the city.
