We were extremely pleased with Ed. He has more facts and information than we have seem in documentaries or read in books. Little things like the ammunition, firing positions, who went where when and how. We never understood certain things about the Rangers, Paratroopers or beach landings until Ed explained the finer points. If you like the Hollywood version, find someone else. If you want facts and understanding, this is your guide. You will have a great time and actually learn some things.

Looking for a D-Day or WWII tour? Found this site? Look no further and just book Ed right away.
Ed can talk like no other with a broad mix of facts, figures, history, photos, interpretations all dispersed with his own brand Irish-French whit.
My wife and I gained knowledge of the events, an understanding of the soldiers (all of them) and, most importantly, a desire to learn more and to book a future tour with Ed. The only thing that would have improved the experience was to continue into the evening for some stout and whisky.
Note, I have done about a dozen private guide tours and this was in the top 2 experiences and the only guide I would definitely book again.

My son and I toured with Ed Robinson for two days.
Ed is very knowledgeable, articulate and personable.
This is the perfect combination for an interesting and delightful tour.
Ed is quite the raconteur and he delights with his background stories and perspectives on military strategies.
We also gained insight on the logistical challenges of D Day and beyond
The touring moves at a nice pace and he interspersed it with photos from
1944.

Ed Robinson is to history tours what Freddie Mercury was to rock music -- once you've seen him do it *this* well, it'll totally revolutionize the genre, blowing your prior expectations to smithereens. Ed gives tours with the dedication to his craft of a chess grandmaster. We joined Ed for an all-day tour in which we covered the paratrooper landings around St.-Mere-Eglise, Omaha Beach, and Gold Beach; I wish we could've spent two weeks with him. His knowledge of the intricacies of the battles is beyond encyclopedic because he knows facts not contained in any encyclopedia, facts observable in the landscape itself, such as the precise trajectory a bullet must've taken to make a particular dent in a railing -- which he'll show you! -- meaning it must've been fired from a paratrooper's sidearm as he descended, in midair -- that sort of thing. He brings a box full of large photographs which he'll use to narrate various aspects of the battles while having you stand in the exact spot where the photo was taken for a really immersive experience. The stories he tells while driving from place to place in his van are engrossing. He also knows the location of each and every bunker, gun battery, trench, machine gun nest, flooded field, hedgerow, glider landing site, river lock, and temporary airfield relevant to the battle for Normandy, and he weaves that information together into a fascinating narrative over the course of the tour. He'll answer any question you have and he may even try to take you shrapnel-hunting. I've been a history nerd for over twenty years and have entire bookcases at home dedicated to the Second World War, and I was learning something new from Ed every minute of the day. In short: Book Ed. There is nobody better. And he's a nice and funny guy, to boot. You'll love spending a day (or more!) with him.

This was the Third time being guided by Edward Robinson. I, as a former Historical Interpretive National Park Ranger with 9 years’ experience and a retired LTC with the US Army, can easily say that Ed Robinson is best guide I have ever had the opportunity to associate with.
I have asked for Ed’s assistance on three tours: 2004, 2014, and again in 2021. He has always answered the questions ask in a professional manner with either the answer immediately or he was quick to find the information for us. This last tour lasted about 8 days over two weeks. We covered not just the landings but also followed the major elements of the allies until the completion of the Falaise Pocket. We have completely studied the landings. We followed the American, Polish, Canadian, and British troops, and the German responses, through the battles of Caen, Saint-Lo, Villers-Bocage, Mortain, Patton’s advance, and the bridges of Falaise Pocket. Ed also gave me insight to the equipment used by both sides. He then made the link between the equipment and tactics used on the ground.
Ed primary techniques to educate us was twofold. First, he used letter size photos combined with having me stand in exact locations of interest to show me and engulf me in the battle. Second, he added artifacts, his own research, and/or stories from interviews he has done to give expert testimony (Often from participants in the battle) to help me get a full understand of the human element of the events.
To add even more to the experience, ED has taken me on metal detecting excursions. We found shrapnel and bullet fragments. Again, Ed used his great wealth of knowledge to figure out were troops of both sides fought or stayed to look for their artifacts.
Combine all the above, while driving around in his van and you have the Ed Robinson Tour Experience. The best tour / guide in Normandy.

I wanted to visit Normandy to see where my father landed. Our tour guide, Thierry, asked for any information I might have about my father. After giving him my fathers battalion and company numbers, he was able to piece tougher information about my father that was invaluable to our family. Two weeks before the invasion, my father was transferred to a heavy artillery unit from the 101 infantry unit. If he stayed attached to the 101, he most likely would not have lived pasted June 6th, 1944.
With that said, Thierry was articulate, precise with every detail about that day. His presentation was totally on target. We can't thank him enough for such an educational Experience....Thank you Thierry......Robert Laimo

I asked for a tour that would focus on US troops, and cover not just the landing but also the weeks that followed. My nine year old called it her "best day in France" (including all her pool days!). Ed is an interesting man himself: tour guide, expert bee keeper, formerly Irish military (sharpshooter), studied forensic ballistics... and an encyclopedic knowledge of military history ( he discussed battles in Manchuria with ease...!). The tour was expertdly organized. Ed has clearly put great effort into his research of pictures, locations, details of persons and battles, etc and seemingly effortlessly pulls it together chronologically while driving you in his comfortable and spacious van. Ed took us across Omaha beach, and really opened our eyes to what happened (not quite like in Saving Private Ryan), but no less unteresting. Ed brings along picturs taken at the time and asks you t stand a certain place, and face a certain location. With the photos and his excellent storytelling, he takes you back to 1944 in a way that you will not forget. When we went inland, it was no less interesting. Ed took us from the beach, following several events that led to the capture of Saint Lo. Ed shows the country side and locations, tells the stories, but we also went looking for shrapnell which was surprisingly easy to find - once Ed told us where to look... It was truly a wonderful day, and I highly recommend!

I'm a little late writing my review, but even 2 summers later, our tour of the Normandy area has stayed with my family & made a huge impact on us. My kids were 14, 11 & 6 at the time of our trip, and my uncle & cousin traveled with us (his father fought in the second wave at Normandy), and my husband & I. Edward & I communicated several times before our trip & he was able to find information about my great uncle & his unit, including photos of my great uncle that we had never seen before! He took us to the primary beaches at Pont du Hoc & Omaha as well as several surrounding areas that told the story of the day (spoiler alert: it isn't what you think. Spielberg didn't present it accurately!). He also took us to an area where my great uncle's unit was, which was quite an emotional (and lovely) surprise for us all.
Edward was very entertaining--he told the story in an engaging way that kept all of our interest. My kids still talk about things they learned along our tour & my middle child has become a huge history buff since our Normandy visit. There were many somber moments; there were some tears shed; and we all laughed quite a bit too. It was a wonderful tour, and I would highly recommend Edward as your tour guide.

We spent two days with Ed (4 Adults) and my only regret is that we did not book the entire week with him! He really worked hard to work in our entire itinerary ... which was ambitious to say the least. Moreover I thought I knew about D-Day and Normandy but Ed made me realize just how little I really UNDERSTOOD about DDay and Normandy. One cannot really know about the battlefield until you walk the battlefield and you need a very knowledgeable guide to help with that or you are wasting precious time. Ed take you to where you really need to go. He then walks the land with you and will thoroughly educate you while entertaining you. He really made our entire trip! We are already trying to plan a trip back just for the experience to spend more time with this fantastic guide... he was simply that good!!!! Ed has earned our highest possible and enthusiastic endorsement as a first rate Military historian and guide!

Sorry, just saw this.
We flew into Paris and took train to Bayeux. Walked from train station to bed and breakfast right downtown. Simple. Very inexpensive. I very rarely do simple and inexpensive. It was surprisingly nice. Logis Saint Jean $160 for 2 nights included breakfast. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Very quaint town.
Ed owns Battle of Normandy tour company. Expensive. Worth it. He picked us up at hotel in Bayeux and we had a full day tour. Returned us to Bayeux at night.
Next day took Bayeux shuttle one way to Mont St Michel. Stayed on the Island. LesPerresses Poulard. About $350 night but worth it to be on island overnight
Hired Amelie Saint James for an afternoon tour.
Next day took bus to train station and took train back to Paris.
Probably more info than you wanted! Great trip.

Is it possible to do the Omaha Beach Landing tour and The American Airborne Assault in one day? We do not want to feel rushed so if not possible, we will stay overnight.

I contacted Edward via e-mail which can be found on his website. This forum will not allow me to post his e-mail address or his website for some reason.
He was quick to respond. He does do private tours as he did with us. He asks some questions and personalizes the tour. We stayed at the Chateau de Bellefontaine and he picked us up there. He is very opinionated so if you are easily offended this would not be the tour you would want to take. He does make sure to mention that before booking. Hope that helps and have a fantastic time!

Hello. My husband and I will be traveling to Normandy in October. I have a few questions:
1. We are flying in to Paris. Can we take the train to your location?
2. Can you recommend a hotel for a 2-day stay?
3. We are also interested in Mont St. Michel. Do you also do tours of that site?
4. Should we book the tour through Viator?
Thanks
