This workshop never happened. First of all no information was given for what floor and what apartment this was held in, so I had to ring 12 or so houses in the building before I could get in. Then, as I was walking up the stairs someone shouts in English why I was there. When I said I had signed up for the workshop, the guy said there was no workshop, that he cancelled it, that he never got any message from tripadvisor that anyone had signed up, asked if I signed up the night before, I said I signed up 2 months ago and have received several emails and text a few days ago that my credit card will be charged soon and then when it was charged 2 days ago and then that morning received both email and text notification that I had a workshop that day!!! Very unprofessional and terrible experience.

What a wonderful time I spent with Martin learning about Mosaic. Lovely, talented artist and patient man. I would have loved to have spent longer, had I the time to do so, Would go back in a flash. Am sorry it has taken a while to catch up on all my reviews but highly recommend this activity. Have since purchased my tools and first supply of tiles. Ready to go come summer in the garden.

Just as a mosaic is made of many different pieces, so are the vacations I tend to like best. Vacations that incorporate history, geography, art, museums, churches, architecture, local foods, local music, etc. can start to blend into one another, but I find taking a local class is memorable and cements that memory to the location. (Think cooking school in Marrakesh, Sailing lessons in Greek Islands, meditating in Cambodia, you get the idea)
We were THRILLED with our mosaic class.
PRE-CLASS
Martin is fluent in English so made arrangements a snap. We had an unexpected change to our trip & appreciated how Martin was both gracious & flexible to accommodate that schedule change.
THE ENVIRONMENT
The workshop is held in what appears to be Martin's apartment, which is GORGEOUS and filled with character!!! Imagine great music, beautiful light streaming in, intricate and beautiful mosaics on the wall, huge windows, gorgeous arched double-doors and YOU CREATING YOUR ART!!!
THE CLASS
I read the other reviewers, and think it's fair to say that the instruction is limited in terms of "formal instruction" but that means your time is instead devoted to creating the mosaic art. Also Martin doesn't leave your side, so he will answer EVERY question you have, and give you practical pinpointed advice on everything from choice of subject, to color tiles selected, to shape of tiles used, etc. In other words he tries to help you with technique in the moment. For me, with just 5 days in Barcelona I wasn't up for devoting an entire vacation day to the mosaic class, but a 3 hour window was just perfect. It also gave us better appreciation for what Gaudi must have done back in the day!! it's time consuming!!
My husband and I were really THRILLED with the experience, the instruction, the support Martin gave throughout, and the finished product. Such a memorable experience in Barcelona, and
MY SUGGESTION:
ENTER THE CLASS with an idea of what you want to create - because the quicker you sketch it, the quicker you get to make the mosaic.

Martin greeted us warmly and we started to work almost immediately after we discussed the type of project we wanted. He stayed with us the entire time [2 of us] and even helped cut tile to almost guarantee we would finish in the time allotted. We were able to take a lunch break, walking to one of the restuarants he recommended. Since the studio was in his home, we also had the opportunity to see European apartment living.

We decided to take a break from exploring and chose to take a mosaic class as a family. Martin was a gracious host and we all enjoyed creating our works of art. My eldest daughter now wants to mosaic at home, using the materials Martin kindly gifted her. Thank you for sharing your talent Martin and helping to create a lovely memory of our time in Barcelona

What a wonderful way to learn the art of mosaics! Martin Brown is a terrific teacher and talented too! You will complete your own piece of art to take home. Highly recommend this to singles, couples or families.

We booked a mosaic class with Martin in June this year, as my fiance and I wanted to try and recreate a 'Travel Man' holiday with activities and a bit of creativity! Where better to learn this craft than in Barcelona?!
The class was brilliant, Martin was a perfect host and taught us the basics of cutting tiles to the correct sizes. He is a brilliant teacher as he lets you create whatever you want to, instead of the usual boring photo frame. You can create any picture that you want to and he will help you to arrange the tiles to make the picture more clear. My fiance always says he's not creative, but he made the most beautiful mosaic of a sea turtle!
Thank you Martin for a fantastic time, the mosaics have been framed and hang proudly on our bedroom wall side by side!

I had seen this mentioned in a Britsh newspaper before going to Barcelona and it had a good review. We did the 2 hour course which is about right although you can go over the time if you haven't finished. Help is on hand if you need it. It doesn't require any special skills. Well worth a go and you have a souvenir to take home

With my mom and my 2 boys we took the 3 hour workshop with Martin and we had a great time. Time sure flies when you're having fun and Martin was patient with the kids too! Some explanations, some techniques and he made sure we all got to finish our designs on time. Would definitely do it again!

I know the activity sometimes is a little challenging for the little ones , but I think together we managed to create some good results .

We took a 3 hours class with Martin, it was our first mosaic experience and it was a great way to start, Martin was very warm and friendly, at first Martin gave us some general instructions and helped us whenever we needed. It was a lot of fun, really recommended experience to anyone coming to Barcelona! Thanks a lot Martin!
