A very touching and poignant memorial to those 20,000 plus Second World War Airmen who have no known grave.
This is a very simple memorial, but is overwhelming in its size and what each of the names of those lost represent. The ceiling is painted in some places with appropriate "murals/images".
It was very touching to see that tributes were still being left to this day by family members.
You can climb to the top of the memorial for a view over Windsor and Heathrow.
Parking available in Coopers Hill nearby, or you can walk up to it from the Runnymede National Trust area, if you are feeling energetic!!
Do not miss this memorial.

This RAF Memorial is very moving. How many people realise that thousands died in the second world war and nobody knows where they are. My husband's father was an Air Gunner and some of his crew died in missions when he wasn't with them. He survived the war and left the names of those who were killed and we managed to find some of them. Take a hankie.

Beautiful area for this monument. Go up the tower and see lots of London including Windsor Castle and Heathrow! Quite moving, 20k plus names of air pilots who lost their lives in 2nd world war .

A very fitting and quiet place to visit. They were cleaning this up the day we visited but it didn't detract from its beauty. There were some moving stories and photos from families of the deceased. And some great views.

I had only visited this beautiful & serene place of remembrance on Armistice Day, which was as you can imagine a very moving experience. But this visit was a passing one as we’d been cycling around Windsor Great Park. This is a very thought provoking memorial set in beautiful surroundings & if you’re in the area I thoroughly recommend a visit.

Very peaceful and moving place to visit. A fitting memorial to those who gave their lives for our freedom all those years ago. Easy to find and worth a visit

A huge memorial, quite stark but a fitting tribute in a peaceful location. Definitely worth a visit and can easily be combined with seeing the Magna Carta monument and John F Kennedy memorial nearby.

A wonderful and interesting visit. As with all the CWGC sites, this memorial was immaculate and appropriate. A wonderful location too. All in all an enjoyable time. Thank you to all those commemorated. ‘We will remember them’.

War memorials tend to be small statue like monuments but this one is generously spacious to accommodate more than 20000 names of those airmen who are probably not even buried anywhere. I never had any wartime experience nor anyone I know served in any war. But seeing the name of someone you know who died in a war must be an emotional experience.

How do you get to Air Forces Memorial from London?
Skrevet 13. februar 2020
Hi Carolyn. Sorry, I live in Wellington New Zealand so wouldn't pretend to be an expert on London transport. We were staying at Englefield Green when we visited so it was easy for us, literally a five-minute walk. I know you can get the train from Waterloo to Egham. It's then a 1.3m walk or a short taxi journey to the Memorial. Probably your best bet if you don't ahve a car. Regards, Allan

Are the names in alphabetical order? Is there a registry to help locate a name?
Skrevet 14. november 2018
Yes, the names are in alphabetical order

I'm travelling without a car. What is the best way to get to this memorial and where is a good place to stay nearby?
Skrevet 9. juni 2018
Hi! It really depends on your budget. Your best base if you’re in the area for more than a couple of days would be Windsor. Failing that, the closest hotel is the Runnymede on the Thames which is close by. A regular bus service operates from/to Windsor past the end of the road to the Memorial. More details should be available from the CWGC website, I would have thought. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the bus stops. Failing that, a local taxi service will transport you. To enjoy this memorial to its fullest, please allow roughly an hour for your visit. Or longer if you are looking for a specific name or names. All the columns are numbered so it should be possible to cross reference the name with the column number.
Enjoy your visit.
