Excellent half hour illustrated talk by a really knowledgeable lady(sorry , I’ve forgotten her name ) about the Neanderthals and how Gibraltar was formed. Unable to get down to the caves as it needs to be booked about a year in advance. Also pretty steep steps down to them , so you would need to be quite fit.
New building with toilets and parking. We walked up, and the path stopped and started and changed to different sides of the road,so not much good for pushchairs /wheelchairs or small children - a bit dangerous really.
No cafe there which is a bit of a shame as beautiful views.
Only open from 10-2 . It seems as though it’s not had very much money or thought spent on it, which is a huge shame..combined ticket with museum costing £12 , (also includes another site - good view but not much else! ) which is good value.

The visit to such a unique place (caves) like this where the last Neanderthals that went extinct were found is such an unforgettable experience!
The team at platform and the guide, Phil- they’re all amazing! I accidentally lost my phone there, but they really did their best to retrieve it! I got my phone the next day before leaving Gibraltar, I really appreciate all the efforts and the accommodating demeanour of the staff and Mr. Phil. Paulette is equally very nice and her colleague. They’re all very nice!

I found this to be a very interesting and informative place to visit. The archelogy talk given really helped to bring history and significance of the area to life, as well as giving lots of detail and history of the Neanderthal people who once lived here.
Unfortunately as I visited out of season I was unable to go down into the caves, this is only possible during certain months and via prior arrangement only.
Also worth noting is that this attraction only has very short operating hours (10am to 2pm) so time your visit!
There is a combined ticket available for both Gorham's Cave and The Gibraltar National Museum which is good value for money.

I didn’t make it to the climb down to Gorham’s Cave itself due to personal fitness levels, but made it (just) to the viewing platform. This in itself was not easy.
What we did was to take the number 2 bus to Europa Point and then walk from the mosque up Europa Advance Road to get there. There isn’t a pavement for the entire length of this road to the viewing point, which would be helpful. But the walk only takes about ten minutes. If you are unable to make this walk, then I suggest hiring a car or taking a taxi. It would be a good idea to have a shuttle bus to take visitors from Europa Point to the viewing point.
It’s worth it when you get there though, the view is spectacular. Phil, the tour guide, was very friendly and keen to share his knowledge about the site from his time digging there, and more widely about Neanderthals. It’s an amazing feeling to see the place where Neanderthals lived for tens of thousands of years, and where they died out.
It is only open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm. There is a combined ticket with the museum in town, which is worthwhile getting. There are toilets here but didn’t seem to be a gift shop as far as we could see.

While I wasn't lucky enough to be in Gibraltar when the cave tours were running, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Gorham's Cave viewpoint and the hour long history tour which gave insight into Neanderthal history, how they lived and hunted as well as how the rock of Gibraltar was formed. And also how and where the Neanderthals were discovered. I was incredibly lucky that a tour was about to start just after I arrived as they were running every hour. Probably best to ring ahead to find out times as the viewpoint is a bit out of the way. I would recommend buying the combined museum/cave ticket and visiting the museum first. It was a bit hot standing in the sun for an hour but umbrellas were provided, and was glad I'd brought water.

British arrogance has long been the subject of anecdotes, but it has both a practical expression and an impact on tourists. It is clear that from the point of view of the government of Gibraltar, the most important thing for tourists is the duty-free shops on Main Road, monkeys on the mountain and batteries in the mountain, reminiscent of the long-past glorious victories of the Royal Army. And the World Heritage Site in Gibraltar is not mentioned on any signs, and the opening hours are made so that by the time you get to the remote west side closer to the Gibraltar Crematorium Gorham's Cave Complex will be closed. It works up to 14 hours. Why not until 10am?

Last known stronghold of the Neanderthal's before they died out. Well presented with information boards and the on-site archaeologist gives a fantastic hour's presentation. Marie really helped me to understand the caves and Neanderthals. Brilliant experience.
There is onsite parking but I took the #2 bus to Europa Point and did the 10 minute walk. There is no formal foot path so you will be on the road or in the rain gutter for most of the walk. It didn't feel very risky but not suited for wheelchairs etc.
There are toilets on site. You can get a joint ticket for the museum in town, which I also recommend.

Walked here from Europa point but sadly I was told that to enter the caves you have to email them and then wait. The woman who I was speakIng to explained that she waited about a year to to visit the caves. So I’ve emailed them and now await a response. There is a fee of £5 to stand on the viewing platform to look at the entrance to the caves I assume. Thank you for the advice about the walk back through the tunnels to Main Street it saved walking back up the steep hills and steps again. I never made it to the museum but it is on my list to do when I return in a months time. Four stars for the information given. I'm now on the waiting list to visit the caves.

We bought our tickets in advance from the Museum, which also provided excellent preparation for our visit here.
It was easy to get the number 2 bus from town and then walk carefully up the last bit of the road.
There are some information boards and the presentation from a very experienced archaeologist, Phil, was terrific. Phil gave a very interesting and engaging talk which provided lots of useful information about the archeological work being done here in collaboration with other areas, and background to the cave, the findings here, and how the work is completed, along with the changes in archaeology over the years, advancements in IT etc.
We learned such a lot during this visit which certainly built on every thing we learned last week at our museum visit.
Phil's passion for his subject shines through and this made it so engaging for us, entertaining and informative.
This was one of the highlights of our Gibraltar trip and would go so far as to say it is a must do in my opinion. I would recommend buying tickets at the museum so that they know you are coming in advance, and avoid disappointment.
