Casa De La Villa is one of the standout buildings on Plaza De La Villa ,a famously beautiful square that's always a joy to visit.
Casa De La Villa was constructed between 1645-1696 with the impressive columns added in 1789,it served as the Town Hall for centuries, its most distinctive feature of the granite built structure is the evocative spire ,such a photogenic building, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate on Plaza De La Villa.

Het is het oudste stadhuis van madrid. Gebouwd in de 17e eeuw en tot voor kort nog in gebruik als stadhuis. Nu is het in gebruik bij een van de gemeentelijke diensten. Mooi om te zien.

The Casa de la Villa was built in the 17th century and served as city hall from that time to the 21st century.
Besides its role as city hall, the building was also intended to be used as municipal prison.
Following the refurbishment of the Palacio de Comunicaciones and the move of the municipal premises to the former in 2011, the Casa de la Villa currently houses some municipal offices and is used for official receptions.

This is the impressive main building in the Plaza de la Villa and was the city hall for around 300 years until the early twentieth century. Well worth a look and an explore as are many of the side streets and small squares in this older part of the city-the Asturias.

Gorgeous, beautiful and historic building. The Casa de la Villa is the former city hall of Madrid, the largest and most impressive of the historic buildings on Plaza de la Villa. Despite the different opinions, it is considered that its construction began around 1645, based on a project by the architect Juan Gomez de Mora, and that it was completed in 1693. It has a special charm, both the building itself and the Plaza de la Villa. It is worth visiting, as is the beautiful Plaza de la Villa and the picturesque and charming streets and squares in its surroundings, the heart and soul of the oldest Madrid.

Beautiful building, one of the oldest preserved in Madrid. It was a municipal building and a prison. It is now located in a very nice small square, near the royal palace.

If you have several days in Madrid and have time to explore beyond the main tourist sights, then this is an interesting diversion. It’s just 5 min walk from Plaza Mayor. You might not go out of your way for this building on its own but it is one of 3 historic buildings in the small Plaza de la Villa. The Convent of Carboneras Corpus Christi (where the nuns still make and sell traditional biscuits) is also just around the corner. Altogether, there is enough to make it a worthwhile stop if you are in the area.
Casa de la Villa is the grandest looking building in the plaza. It’s the one with the flags and was the old city hall and seat of government for over 300 years, from the 1690s until 2007. Before this, council meetings had just been gatherings at the church or in the homes of Council members so the new building would have made everything a lot more formal.
There are a couple of points of interest:
i) City Coat of Arms – these sit above the door. On the left we recognised the bear and the strawberry tree. This is the one that Madrid has stuck with as a national symbol (there is a 4m statue of it in Puerta del Sol). The crest on the right is an ancient symbol of a winged dragon which is no longer part of Madrid’s crest.
ii) Two Doorways – this struck us as odd at first but the separate entrances are there because for a long time the building was part council and part city jail. About 200 men and women were imprisoned here, crammed into communal wards. You can definitely imagine that council members would not want to share a doorway with prisoners.
