As advertised. They provided a detailed map, and the staff was helpful explaining the route including a detour to Aqueduct Park. Pack a pair of bike shorts, it’s a bumpy road.

The Appian Way is well worth exploring for a different view of Rome. Outside the city is pleasant countryside where you can see the old Roman road, including a part with original paving. There are also ruined mausoleums in pleasant parkland. We took the bus out and then walked part of the way on a sunny but not hot afternoon - don't try this in high summer!

Abbiamo fatto trekking archeologico per ben 15 km con una guida davvero preparata. Incredibile il fatto che dentro una Metropoli sia perfettamente conservato un Patrimonio Naturale e Storico di primaria scelta. Passeggiare fra Mausolei, Mura, ville abitate, Circo di Roma Antica nella Consolare più importante dell'Urbe: esperienza che non dimenticherò.

All’immenso valore storico e archeologico si unisce quello paesaggistico. Il parco è molto grande è comprende diversi territori, tra i quali la via Appia Antica, la valle delle Caffarella, la zona della via Latina, quella degli Acquedotti e altri ancora. Passare una giornata nella natura, passeggiando o noleggiando una bicicletta, circondati da tanta storia è molto affascinante.

Fui muito bem atendido pelo funcionário, o valor do aluguel é de €5 a hora e €3 as demais. Dê preferência para uma bicicleta com amortecedores, porque grande parta da via Apia é original e as pedras do calçamento são grandes e irregulares. Recomendo o passeio, existem diversas ruínas no caminho que rendem ótimas fotos.

Not closed to traffic on Sunday. So many blogs said go on Sunday. No. This is not what you want, it is not made a pedestrian street on Sunday. In fact the first part that is pedestrian is closed on Sunday. So there is more traffic on Sunday than other days. The tourist office looked at me like I was insane, no it is not closed to cars. The first part closest to Rome where the Museum and visitor center is is scary, it is like walking through a tunnel. The walls are high on each side there is no sidewalk and there is lots of fast two way traffic.
If I went again I would go during the week, take the pedestrian rode from the visitor center to San Sebastian which I could not accès on Sunday. Or I would take the bus further down to parts of the road where there is only some local traffic and the conditions are bad enough to discourage drivers.
Bus 118 from Piazza Venezia goes along the road and stops in a few pints then cuts out to the new point. This is easy to use as a one way walk. Biking in the heavy traffic seems perilous and the paths aren't great for it often little room between trees and walls, spots people were carrying their bike through water. We walked the first 6km and I was happy with that choice.

Great trip along the Appian Way. Staff very helpful and the two e- bikes we rented were in good condition. Most of the road is cobbled and a bit treacherous in the heavy rain we had for an hour. Once the sun came out this was a breathtaking day out.

Bikes were in very poor condition. Very poorly maintained, chains kept coming off both our bikes, they were noisy, gears constantly grating. Don’t think they had seen a drop of oil in a long time. While the route on the Via Appia Antica is lovely and worth doing, I would not recommend hiring bikes from this outlet.

We have several kinds of bikes: city-bikes, e-city, mtb or e-mtb, next time you can try another one that better meets your expectations, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

We took a taxi from the centre of Rome to the great round tomb of the Metellus family then on to the fabulous villa of the Quintilli brothers.
A 10 euro pass can be purchased at the Tomb that will get you into both.
The Tomb reveals the history of the funerary practices of the Romans.
The Villa Quintilla is wonderful. There is a modern museum at the entrance that reveals many of the fascinating objects found there.The Villa lies further on and up a small hill. It is well worth the hike!

Hello,
What is the cost of admission to the park? Can we hire a tour guide at the entrance, are there audio guides (and do you recommend these) and can you bring into the park your own lunch?
Also, what is the best way to get to the park on a Sunday? And should we worry about pre-booking our return ride to our hotel or are there options (Sunday afternoon in October)?

We bought the combination ticket at the Metella tomb ticket office. It allows you entrance to the Qunitilli Villa and museum as well. We booked a hotel taxi for the afternoon. The driver took the 3 of us anywhere we wanted to go for a flat rate,
There are tables in front of the Quintilli museum where you could have your picnic lunch,
We did not hire a guide or use audio guide, There are several sign boards along the paths which explain in English what you are looking at. The Quintilli museum is small but has lots of English signage,
The Villa ruins are
behind the museum. The path goes up a small hill but is really not accessible for anyone using a wheelchair, Well worth seeing though!

Buonasera, vorrei visitare il parco e in particolare passare per la via alberata che ha i sampietrini per terra. Come faccio ad arrivare in quel punto? Da dove mi conviene partire e che percorso devo effettuare? Grazie
Buongiorno, il primo tratto della via Appia Antica con l'antico basolato si trova poco dopo la Tomba di Cecilia Metella (in via Appia Antica 161). Oltre a quel primo tratto proseguendo dritto sulla stessa strada troverà degli altri tratti (fiancheggiati sia dalle tombe che dai cipressi). Potrà prendere il bus 118 fino alla fermata Appia Antica/San Sebastiano e da lì procedere a piedi per 600 metri. Oppure potrà raggiungere le Catacombe di San Sebastiano in macchina (tranne la domenica) dove è presente un piccolo parcheggio e da lì sempre a piedi. Potrà trovare delle mappe da scaricare nel nostro sito nella sezione download. Per qualsiasi chiarimento e altre informazioni contatti il centro servizi appia antica al 065135316

Sure, you can rent bikes at the main tourist information office where you will also get maps, information and locks to park your bikes outside the catacombs and other monuments, you can make reservation on the website: appiaantica.bike

Ciao! Se vuoi noleggiare le bici (Centro Servizi di Via Appia Antica, 60) ti consigliamo il parcheggio gratuito dell'Ente Parco in Via Appia Antica, 50. Se vieni di domenica invece è necessario parcheggiare nei pressi di Via Tito Omboni, angolo L.go Galvaligi. Un saluto!

Hi you need to hire a bike at the park entrance as it's too far to walk it's about 14 km round trip but well worth doing as the acquaducts are stunning there's a lot to see along the appian way so we allowed ourselves a full day and also visited the catacombs as well
