Reading up on this location can be daunting as where to start? We were very happy with our version, which was: Train to La Spezia. One you hop off you have to buy further tickets for the train that passes through the 5 villages. Once on the train, you put your ticket into the machine to validate it. We travelled to the last village, Monterosso - about 15 mins. This is a pretty village to look around. We walked from there to Vernazzo - this is a fairly demanding but beautiful walk. It takes nearly 2 hours, and affords views of the coastal strip and passes through lush vegetation. Fish and chips in Vernazzo was nice. We did not walk the next leg to Corniglia as we thought this might make our day hard work. We took the train to Corniglia - the station is quite a level below the small town and the town is not the most exciting of the 5 villages. We were going to walk to Manarola as this is a flat walk but the trail was closed for maintenance. From the Corniglia station the trail can be tricky as it drops down narrow stairs at the southern end of the station and you are not sure this is the correct trail. We used the train instead to return. You do not have to try and visit all towns or try and walk the whole trail. We had a wonderful day just walking the first leg

it is well worth the effort to try to at least walk some of the way. You go through the quaint narrow streets of Manarola ~ the most charming village. You will be rewarded with stunning views when you get to the top

Un lugar único para caminar y hacer playa
El mar Tirreno es turquesa
Los 5 pueblos están conectados por tren que pasan todo el tiempo.

Finally, we set foot on the Instagram pretty fishing villages on the northern shores of Italy.
Bus to the nearest train station then hopped off to any of the five villages accessible by train or ferry.

We visited 3 of the 5 villages: Manorola, Vernazza & Monterosso, all built on the cliffs overlooking the sea.

Walked up the cliff to take in the picture perfect view, roamed around the town centre for some souvenirs and took a bite in one of the many eateries. There were plenty to do.

Loved the fried mixed seafood in a cone and the limoncello gelato!

I really mean what I say in the header, Manarola was Adam and my favourite town out of Cinque Terre. It has something to offer everyone whether that be culture, cuisine, sights, retail, trinkets or wine. We even found some of the cuisine to be vegan/lactose free/gluten free. I also bought a dress in this town. Very well worth a trek to.

We had a fantastic day trip at the Cinque Terre, based from Florence. We were met at the train station at 08:00 (sta. M. Novella) and walked about 5 minutes to the bus. We got information along the way, 2 hour bus ride, and walked about 1.5 hours to the first of the 5 villages, among vinyards, olive groves, forests, ravines, small farmhouses clinging to the cliffs, and all the time on narrow trails. Some tricky passages, but nothing too difficult. Good shoes and layered clothes in case of rain or wind or cold are a must. Backpacks to put the outer layers when the sun comes out also good. Walked up and down the villages, with about 50 min. at each place, time for coffe, shops, views, pictures and on to the next by train or boat. Returned to La Spezia by train and tok our bus back to Florence, arriving at 21:00.
All in all an unforgettable experience which we would do again anytime! Guides, Alfredo and Alesandro were wonderful, supportive and with a nice sense of humor. Walkabout and Viator have a winner here!

Leave early morning to beat the crowds. Manarola has something to tempt everyone. Shop around for food as prices differ a lot.

Cinque Terre is a must not miss area of Tuscany. Lovely little towns which can be visited by ferry so don't miss if you cannot do the walk from town to town. There is hill walking in towns however. If on a tour, you are given time to browse the towns and have lunch and /or a gelato. Weather was beautiful and many people were enjoying the beaches and sailing. However, cannot imagine what crowds might be in high season.

Took the train from La Spezia and got off at the last station of Monterossa. After walking around this town we started walking to the next town, where the steps were steep. got to a checkpoint when we told it would take another 2 hours to reach the next town after walking through a reserve. We decided not to do this walk in view of our ages and walked back to the station, to see the other towns by train.
