Marco was polite, patient and knowledgeable. That was not a problem. His no internet signs are breaching anti-competition laws, but they're there because his prices are up to four times what you find on line. Vendors like him are why Venice is perceived as expensive. Go elsewhere.

Very rude owner who isn't there to help but just to sell as much as possible. The house wines we got were absolutely vile (I couldn't even cook with them) and were pricey also. I should have just got some supermarket wine.

Marco was a welcoming host and we enjoyed good wine, good conversation and good laughs with a true Venetian. A nice way to spend time doing something a bit different in Venice. He has a broad knowledge of the world of wine and an extensive selection of wines available to buy.

I am writing this review primarily to warn people who may be about to make my expensive mistake.
I booked the wine tasting, (via a well-known apartment rental web-site), and as far as that was concerned – it was all good. So good, that I even broke my rule of not submitting a review too quickly. I delivered a five-star review, (on that particular website), a couple of days after the event, (while still in Venice). I stand by what I said in the review – as far as the wine tasting was concerned.
During the tasting, the conversation inevitably turned to the subject of wine and fine Italian wine in particular. I’ll get straight to the point. I mentioned that the best Italian wine I had tasted was the super-Tuscan – Sassicaia. The wine bar owner Marco, then showed me a bottle of the second wine of Sassicaia - Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2017. This was a wine I was unaware of. He described it as, (and I’m quoting), “Ninety-nine percent as good as Sassicaia” and he was selling at €85 a bottle. Those “in the know” will appreciate that this is about a third of the price of Sassicaia itself, so if it was as good as described, (and it was), then it could be seen as something of a bargain. Again the wine was as described and I have no complaints regarding the contents of the bottle.
A little later in our vacation, as we enjoyed “cicchetti” and a glass of wine in one of Venice’s excellent establishments, (Cantine del Vino già Schiavi), my gaze landed on a bottle of the exact same wine sold to me by Marco. Not exactly true – here it was a 2016 and not the 2017. However, what really shocked me was that this bottle cost, (wait for it), not €85 - but a mere €39.50! See photo.
That prompted me to do some research and I discovered that Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2017 is available in the UK - for around £35 a bottle. During our conversation, Marco did point out that everything in Venice is more expensive than the mainland, due to water transportation costs but how does Cantine del Vino già Schiavi get its stock? Are they not in Venice?
So the moral of the story has to be this. You will enjoy the wine tasting and if you feel so inclined, you could possibly buy some “vino sfuso”, (“draught” wine), which seemed something of a bargain. However, do not allow your eyes to drift over the bottles on the shelves as, (based on my experience), you may regret your expensive mistake later.

We had a fab wine tasting experience here yesterday. We got to taste 4 cask wines, 2 white and 2 red. All were delicious and a fab price €5 per litre. Also snacks if cheese, meat and crackers were delicious. The shop owner was very friendly, we learnt a lot about different wines and Venice. Currently drinking a bottle of Prosecco we purchased to finish off our holiday. Would highly recommend!

Lors de chaque passage à Venise, nous faisons halte dans cette boutique pour faire le plein d'Orto di Venezia, le seul vin de la Lagune. Le patron est très sympathique et les frais d'expédition raisonnables.

This is a great bottle shop if you are in the market for a bottle of wine with a large selection of regional wines as well as from around Italy. Plus, they have vino sfuso, bulk wine, available for 4.50 Euros per liter! They offer 2 reds and 2 whites already bottled in plastic bottles so you don't even need to take your own in. The cabernet franc and chardonnay were exceptionally good given the price point. I'm always looking for shops with vino sfuso when in Venezia. I'm glad to have found this one with a very friendly proprietor. Highly recommended and easy to find.

When in Venice, this small wine store/bar features local unusual Veneto wines along with other Italian regions at fabulous prices. Want a bottle or two to take back to your hotel or air bnb, go here! The owner is a local who has extensive wine experience. He has spent time in Northern California and also understands what tourists like to drink. We went to the this place a number of times to sample and buy fabulous wine.
