I myself am a retired teacher of English and French as a foreign language. I enrolled in the school for a two week course level C1. The teacher was excellent, but every student I met from the other courses had the same opinion. There was group work, partner work, listening comprehension and some grammar exercises as well. The school is in the Santa Margherita area where there are many cafés and inexpensive restaurants. The school will also find a private room for you or if possible, a room in a student dormitory in the Santa Marta area. After class the school offers free tours of the city´s quarters by guides who have studied art history. Every day there is a different fascinating tour. One night a week there is a cooking evening for a small surcharge to cover costs and each week the specialties of a certain town are cooked. Assuming your Italian is good enough the school offers a Historia dell´Arte course instead of going to a normal class in the morning. I participated in this the second week. We were just 4 students and the one teacher and every day we went to a different museum or church or place of interest. I began to truly understand Renaissance Italian art for the first time. I can only recommend this school to anyone considering studying Italian in Italy.

Sprachkurs in Venedig und dann noch am Istituto Venezia - besser geht es nicht! Ich war dort, um mit einem 4wöchigen Sprachkurs mein Italienisch aufzubessern und habe bereits den nächsten Kurs gebucht.
Die sehr kompetenten Lehrer, die zum Teil auch noch Musiker sind, gestalten den Unterricht interessant und abwechslungsreich, wobei sie gerne auch auf persönliche Anliegen eingehen. Da die Gruppen klein sind, kommt man auch selbst viel zum Reden. Interessant ist auch das Zusammentreffen von Lernenden aus aller Welt und allen Altersschichten. Die lockere Atmosphäre der Schule ist sehr motivierend und macht viel Spaß. Man fühlt sich richtig im Urlaub und lernt doch sehr viel dabei. Die vielen interessanten Angebote am Nachmittag runden das Ganze wunderbar ab. Natürlich ist auch der Besuch des Kochkurses in jeder Hinsicht ein Genuss.
Das schöne Schulgebäude liegt zentral am belebten Campo Santa Margherita, die Bar direkt vor der Schule hat einen ausgezeichneten Caffè.
Eine äußerst inspirierende Art, diese schöne Sprache zu lernen.

Adorei a escola, os professores e conhecer pessoas de outras nacionalidades e culturas. Além das aulas diárias, fiz uma aula de culinária e dois passeios promovidos pela escola: um Bacara Tour e um passeio pelo Gueto Judeu. Foi uma experiência inesquecÃvel. Em duas semanas não dá para aprender muito o idioma por conta das diferentes nacionalidades em uma mesma sala de aula, mas valeu muito a pena!!

Foi muito legal estudar durante 2 semanas neste instituto. Alguns professores são gentis, outros arrogantes, mas dá para aprender bem.

Muy buena onda en este negocio. Es muy divertido. Se pueden probar las máscaras y permiten sacarse fotos sin ningún problema. Hay que visitarlo!!!

Last month, my husband and I took a class at the Ist. Venezia. It was my third class there in the last several years and I highly recommend it as a casual, simple activity to pick up a local side of Venice. Every time, I've learned something of the season and of the people of Venice. Taking a class like this is also a great way to practice your Italian, if it's not your native tongue, and to meet other Italo-philes from around the world. A rich experience overall!

I stayed in Istituto Venezia for 5 weeks, before I was studying italian for 3 months in my country. In the beginning I have to say that there are some great teachers in Istituto (and if you're lucky to be in their class you will learn a lot), unfortunately not all of them. I am truly disappointed with the school and I feel obliged to let other people know about it because if I knew about some stuff I wouldn't have chosen this school. First of all I didn't have any placement test so they didn't really know my exact level and they put me in level 2 after 2 minutes talk (I've been to language schools abroad and the placement test were always very detailed). Second of all in 30 hours of studying Italian in Poland I've learned so much grammar (passato, imperfetto, trapassato, condizionale, futuro semplice, pronomi diretti, indiretti, combinati, gradi dell'aggettivo, imperativo, particelle ci, ne, congiuntivo presente, passato e trapassato) all I needed was practice and talking (cause I didn't talk well) and I was very excited about revision as well as getting to know new topics. Unfortunately having 100 hours in total in Istituto we barely began congiuntivo and I practically started from level 3 in istituto... Having 4 hours of Italian per day I really expected more and we were not even able to finish explaining one grammar topic a day. Okay, let's say that school is more oriented on conversation (even so it should be said from the beginning) but from my point of view, and honestly not only mine, I've heard so many opinions like this ,the conversation held by some teachers were mostly oriented on ONE, TWO or MAXIMUM THREE people in the classroom. What about the rest? Mostly they didn't care, if they started a conversation with one person they would keep on talking for the whole hour. I swear it was like this because I kept looking on the watch. And you could say - so why you were not trying to talk as much as the others? - well, because not everyone is so eager to talk in a foreign language after 3 months of studying while other have been studying for years and this is the teacher's job to encourage all the classroom to have a conversation. Not just 2 people. Long story short there are so many things I didn't like in the school, my vocabulary range didn't expand at all, they almost don't do the vocabulary classes (again depending on the teacher, unfortunately I had a good one just for last 2 weeks). Another thing is that the classes are mainly very numerous, people change every week, so you have to go through all getting to know new people and placing them in the classes every week which is also a huge waste of time. And the last thing is that classes are mix of very young and very old people which may be not very politicaly correct but let's face the truth, mostly (of course there are some exceptions) old people don't get everything as fast as the youngsters, they keep asking same questions all over again and as much as I don't want to be rude I had the impression that the class should be devided based on age as well...
To sum up I am truly disappointed, I expected so much more after 5 weeks of very intensive course. The only good thing is that my comperhension of Italian improved, also I was not that shy to talk as in the beginning, but still not what I expected. I didn't get to know any of the new grammar topic. And also there should be so much more grammar excercises during classes or at least a homework every time. Honestly if you pay for studying you actually expect to work hard not to have a holiday with a bit of Italian in the background.
In the end I want to underline that THERE ARE GOOD TEACHERS in the school, you just have to be lucky enough to meet them.
And just one thing to be fair - maybe my big dissatisfaction comes from the fact that I came to Venice to study as an erasmus so I really needed to get to know Italian very fast and I really wanted. If you're just going for a holiday and you want to revise a bit your language skills the school might actually be a good choice. They also organise very nice and interesting activities in Italian for students what is a huge advantage. The location is perfect, the teachers are always on time and the atmosphere is pleasant.
I am sorry if I hurt somebodie's feelings, it wasn't my intention. I just feel so dissatisfied about the school, if you improved some things it would be so much better.

ci dispiace che tu non sia stata completamente soddisfatta del corso che hai seguito presso la nostra scuola. Abbiamo moltissimi studenti che ogni anno tornano a seguire in nostri corsi a Venezia e a Trieste e che ci dimostrano il loro gradimento.
In Polonia avevi studiato molta grammatica e, come tu stessa osservi, era necessario lavorare di più sulle abilità comunicative. Questo è quello che cerchiamo di fare in classe seguendo l' approccio comunicativo (ovviamente si procede anche con la grammatica , ma in maniera graduale e in contesto). Fortunatamente anche tu dici che nella comprensione e nel parlato ti sei resa conto di essere un po' migliorata.
Sei stata da noi in un periodo (settembre) in cui ogni anno gruppi già costituiti di studenti provenienti dalla Germania e dall'Austria frequentano i nostri corsi. La cosa ovviamente ci fa molto piacere però non possiamo non considerare che l'età media in quel periodo si alza e la prevalenza di germanofoni a scuola si fa notare. I quel periodo dobbiamo attivare anche corsi in più ed è quindi possibile che gli studenti che restano un periodo lungo cambino insegnanti o compagni di gruppo.

Mi dispiace però che tu non ce ne abbia parlato direttamente appena i primi problemi per te si sono presentati. In sede, oltre agli insegnanti, è sempre presente il personale di segreteria e i dirigenti della scuola, in particolare la direttrice didattica. Per noi è molto importante il contatto con i singoli studenti per cercare di risolvere subito ogni problema o difficoltà .
Nel tuo caso probabilmente la direttrice didattica ti avrebbe consigliato i nostri corsi intensivi del pomeriggio dove abbiamo gruppi più piccoli e spesso anche altri studenti erasmus come te. Grazie a questi fattori si lavora molto più intensamente e si procede più velocemente con il programma.
Ogni quattro settimane inizia una sessione e il quel caso il test è costituito da una prova scritta e da una prova orale. Gli altri tre lunedì della sessione gli studenti vengono inseriti nei gruppi solo tramite la prova orale (per esigenze organizzative e per non fare perdere ore di lezione). Bisogna tenere presente che la prova d'ingresso non è un esame di certificazione delle competenze linguistiche ma è un colloquio approfondito per capire quale dei nostri cinque livelli sempre attivi (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1) sia il più adatto per il percorso di studio di ogni studente. Una volta inserito nel livello lo studente ha sempre la possibilità di confrontarsi e chiedere consigli agli insegnanti e alla direttrice didattica.

I think the school has very good teachers. In my experience, conscientious, motivated and interested in the students and their learning. They work hard and put a lot into the process.
The students are from many countries and atmosphere in general good with the opportunity to mix and meet many people.
The most disappointing part was what the school describes as "Tandem" - supposedly a chance to exchange languages with a local Italian speaking student. There is a board where you can see adverts placed from Italian students. However, my experience was the same as many other students - hardly anybody responds and those that do are not reliable. Having learnt a language previously I realise that the key is speaking. The classes provide the basics but speaking to locals, very tough in Venice, is what will make the difference.
School seemed largely disinterested to do anything about it - although a lot of effort does go into promoting cooking classes. Were quite good but rather overpriced.

Quest'anno sono andata a studiare all'Istituto Venezia ed è stato semplicemente fantastico! Nelle lezioni di Storia dell'Arte ho conosciuto una Venezia che va oltre le guide e ho avuto l'opportunità di imparare tantissimo sia sull'arte che sulla città e la sua storia.
Dal primo contatto fino alla partenza ho solo bei ricordi di questa scuola! Tornerò sicuramente!

Istituto Venezia is een geweldige plek om Italiaans, Italië en Italianen van dichtbij te leren kennen. En dat alles in het hart van Venetië, met haar rijke geschiedenis, cultuur, prachtige gebouwen en sympathieke inwoners. Tussen juli en oktober 2013 was ik drie maanden in Venetië, volgde taallessen aan Istituto Venezia, deed met veel plezier mee aan de kooklessen op donderdag en leerde de stap stap voor stap kennen, mede dankzij de excursies en wandelingen die de school organiseert.
