A stone's throw from the Duomo, in the square of the same name which also houses the Palazzo degli Innocenti, you can admire this beautiful Basilica. The Basilica is accessed from the Cloister of Votes which is actually a covered portico to protect the frescoes. The Basilica leaves you breathless with the richness of the works.

Beautiful church and pilgrimage site. Nice atmosphere and close to the S. Marco monastery/museum. Very hospitable and atmospheric. The image with the announcement is very special. Definitely visit!

I have already reviewed this splendid basilica on 20 July 2020 and at the time I had complained about the fact that I had never had the opportunity to visit the Great Cloister (or "of the Dead") and the chapel of San Luca (or of the Painters); I finally succeeded (as part of the Florentine New Year event, but now it seems that they remain open every Monday morning by the volunteers of the "Amici dei Musei Fiorentini" association) and obviously the visit to these two additional environments only confirm the excellent rating attributed to the complex of the Basilica of the SS.Annunziata, one of the most beautiful in the city. The Great Cloister dates back to the 1400s and was partly contributed by Michelozzo, who had already created the cloister of the Vows, even if its current appearance is the result of evident changes undergone in subsequent centuries (the clock which can be seen on the opposite side on the left side of the church is from the 16th century, but was also modified later). The access to the cloister, from which you then enter the chapel, is located to the left of the church entrance and is preceded by a corridor with walls full of tombstones, mostly Baroque but also nineteenth-century. Tombstones and sepulchral monuments from various periods can then be found widely on the walls of the cloister (hence probably the nickname "cloister of the Dead"), including that of William of Durfort, from the 13th century. But it is not so much the harmony and elegance of the cloister or the presence of the sepulchral monuments that attracts attention, but rather the cycle of frescoes in the lunettes, on which Ventura Salimbeni, Bernardino Poccetti, Matteo Rosselli and Arsenio Mascagni worked; among all these lunettes, the one above the door that leads from the cloister to the church must not be overlooked, as it is the famous Madonna del Sacco, considered the supreme masterpiece of Andrea del Sarto. The Painters' Chapel is accessed from the north side of the cloister. Towards the middle of the 16th century the friars of the convent donated the chapter room to the newly established Academy of Drawing Arts which took on the obligation to make it a worthy chapel: the result is one of the greatest artistic expressions of the second half of the 16th century present in Florence; in fact, artists of the caliber of Allori, Vasari, Santi di Tito, Montorsoli and others worked there for about 15 years. The changes that occurred in the early 19th century (the addition of Luca Giordano's canvas on the vault and the moving of the entrance with the consequent application of Pontormo's detached fresco on the infill of the former access) did not alter the harmony and the magnificence of this chapel, which has indeed been enriched with new works. In the center of the floor you can see the marble slab that closes the chapel in which the artists of the Academy used to be buried: here, among others, Pontormo, Benvenuto Cellini, Montorsoli, Franciabigio, etc. are buried.

I like baroque so I love Rome. It was very nice to find this gem so close to my hotel. We attended a latin mass here and it was quite the experience among all the art. Definitely worth a visit, especially after seeing the relatively austere Duomo and Santa Croce.

Considered the Mother Church of the Servite Order, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata is located on the square by the same name in the city centre of Florence. The church history dates back to the mid 12th-century and while the exterior is very subtle and unassuming portico lined building, what you see inside is an ornately decorated interior with impressive artwork and sculptures.

As you enter, you first see the small but charming Cloister of the Voltive Objects with 15th and early 16th-century frescos. You can enter the basilica where you find an elaborate display of Baroque from the 17th-century with finely decorated chapels, hosting impressive artworks and sculptures. The highlight of the basilica is the 'Glorious Virgin during the Annunciation' by Fra Bartolomeo (1252). However, there are numerous beautiful and important works to be seen, the works of numerous important Italian artists and sculptors from centuries past.

Overlooking the square of the same name, not far from the Cathedral, the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata is one of those less celebrated churches which, if visited, can constitute a real surprise for the richness of the decorations and artistic works that they house within them. Before entering the church it is worth dedicating some time to the two cloisters, that of votive objects and, if accessible, that of the Dead, from which it is also possible to access the Chapel of San Luca. As for the church itself, as soon as you enter your gaze is captivated by the very rich and perhaps almost excessive baroque decorations but above all by the Chapel of the Santissima Annunziata, where the painting of the Virgin is kept. Free entry. Absolutely worth a visit.

I went there by chance and I was not disappointed: the church is very pretty and richly decorated. It is much more pleasant to visit than many of the paid churches in Florence.

The church is a lesser know or visited place as we did not find too many people there during out visit. But it is a marvelous renaissance style basilica from inside. Beautiful work done on the dome.
