An organized visit with a guide, a journey between the most ancient civilisations, wonderful and rich in art. A jewel worth visiting for all ages.
Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about the welcome.
The arrogant, unsympathetic and very unwelcoming staff... the opposite of what art teaches.
Starting from the lady at the reception who was very rude especially with children and the two women in charge of the small shopping area. As soon as the visit was over, the children wanted to buy some gadgets in memory of the experience... they were mocked and brazenly warned of the closing time and of the staff's desire to go home (1pm). Considering that the school groups' timetables are given by the museum itself, I wonder what they can complain about.
Visit lasted about an hour, the school group showed up early and waited their turn. She was followed by a guide who was not excellent and engaging but perhaps the friendliest who also complimented the education of the class and then, considering that the gadgets have exaggerated prices and that if a school group makes purchases it is all good for the museum, I don't see the justification for such rude and superficial behavior of the staff.
If the same staff is tired or has no predisposition to work with the public, it would be time to make way for those who know how to do the job with love.
I have worked for years in tourism, as a teacher and guide and I can truly say that what I have found for myself and for entire classes is precisely the most incorrect behavior one can have, not giving VALUE NEITHER TO THEMSELVES NOR TO WHAT YOU HAVE IT DOES AND IS REPRESENTED, NEITHER AND FINDING THIS IN A PLACE OF CULTURE AND ART IS TRULY A GREAT SIN.
If you can't stand school groups and aren't capable of offering an adequate service, then it's a good idea not to make availability or to change JOB.
Finally, I would add that the classes, having teachers and parents who are passionate about culture, history and art, are very used to visiting museums and doing themed workshops and have always reported great exciting experiences by writing letters to the various artistic directions that they have appreciated and reciprocated... so they are very expert.. this experience was not appreciated except for having seen cultural and artistic rarities.
Arrogance and superficial arrogance should be a value abolished especially in a place of art especially towards children who should only take example from us... example of beauty...
BAD RECEPTION STAFF.

The museum collects the best of the excavations from all over Tuscany together with finds from Lazio and Umbria. It is spread over three floors, all very beautiful and full of works of art. It includes an Etruscan, an Egyptian, and a Greek/Roman section. The highlight is undoubtedly the Chimera of Arezzo, an Etruscan bronze work dating back to the 4th century. B.C. depicting the mythical lion fair which is exhibited in a small room together with the Herald, a Roman bronze statue from the 1st century. B.C. which portrays the Etruscan nobleman Aule Meteli.
And now we come to the sore points...The museum is equipped with a lift and has stairs that allow people in wheelchairs to visit it entirely. Incredible, but true, at the entrance there is an architectural barrier consisting of three steps, to overcome which a person in a wheelchair must be accompanied by the service staff to the secondary entrance. To reach it you have to exit the museum and walk along a long and very narrow sidewalk. Once inside the museum, she has to follow the route in reverse, thus crossing all the rooms to finally arrive at the beginning of the route.
Finally, in many rooms there is no security staff present.
That's why I only give three stars.

Recommended museum if you are in Florence.
Very large and many Etruscan and Egyptian finds.
For a detailed visit the route can last up to 3 hours but it is truly worth the time it takes

Huge collections and naturally profusion of Etruscan finds. Also wonderfully sparse for tourists, no queues and silence to appreciate the things on display. Let's hope it lasts and tourists continue to go elsewhere.

Classic archaeological museum housed in the ancient Palazzo della Crocetta (adjacent to the church of SS. Annunziata) which was the residence of Maria Maddalena de' Medici, daughter of Grand Duke Ferdinando; the latter, who apparently was not physically well off, almost never went out and attended the Holy Mass in the aforementioned church of the SS. Annunziata through a window located high up on the right side of the church, which the poor thing reached via a long corridor, still visible. The archaeological exhibition is very vast and although there is no shortage of other types of objects (Greek and subordinately Roman sculpture, the Medici-Lorraine gems housed in the aforementioned corridor of Mary Magdalene, the coin maker's room) the main and most valuable nucleus is made up of the Etruscan and Egyptian collections. The latter in Italy is second only to that of the Egyptian museum in Turin, while in the numerous objects of the Etruscan collection there are pieces of considerable value, including the sarcophagus of the Amazons, the sarcophagus of Larthia Seianti and the Chimera of Arezzo (by the latter, however, at the moment you will have to be satisfied with the copy placed at the entrance of the museum, given that the original is out on loan). The palace houses an internal garden which, however, cannot normally be visited. Definitely a must for fans of Egyptian and Etruscan archaeology. I remember that this museum, being national, enters for free on the first Sunday of the month (be careful, however, because on Sundays it is only open in the morning, until 2pm, with the ticket office closing at 1pm).

The pleasure of immersing yourself in millennia of history masterfully concentrated in a space that is too small to assimilate in a single visit is too intense.
I will return several times to exhaust my need to establish a relationship of authentic gratitude with the past.

Huge but most exhibits are for a more niche clientele. If you love Etruscan or Egyptian art, definitely check it out. Otherwise, not top of museum list.

Having planned a visit to Florence for only 2 days, 24 and 25 August 2023, I had planned to visit the museum on Friday 25 August in the early afternoon. I was very disappointed that the museum closes at 2pm on Fridays.
I wonder how it is possible that in the height of the tourist season such an important museum closes at 2pm on a weekday.

Our teens love historical war stories and related museum and they thought that this was one of the best museum they has visited for a long time. But you need to be quite informed about the subject to really enjoy the time spent. As a regular vistor it was only an average experience.
