For those interested in Etruscan civilization it is definitely a site not to be missed. Also very interesting is the museum with archaeological finds. Be careful that the entrance is not very visible from the road; consider that it is near a level crossing and is on the right coming from Perugia. Other recommendations: sneakers, hat and water bottle. Very kind and very welcoming staff. Enjoy your visit!

I had read about this site and it had intrigued me, but the reality is that it is truly astonishing, everything is beautiful, the hypogeum, the tombs outside, the museum is an unmissable gem, the staff is prepared and available, for a price of really ridiculous entrance

This Etruscan tomb is very interesting, because it can be visited together with the many urns found in the surrounding area. You can also visit the entire site including many other tombs carved into the hill. The staff are very efficient and friendly. The site is poorly signposted and a little difficult to find

Spectacular site, the hypogeum is one of a kind as the tomb is divided like a house. The necropolis.
It is well managed and full of exhibits. The custodians are kind and prepared to give important information. Highly recommended. The cost of the ticket is cheap!!

I already knew the hypogeum from a visit many years ago and let's say I checked it off. Nothing could be more wrong, places (even those that would be assumed to be immutable) change over the years. The hypogeum has made enormous strides in the management and valorization of its heritage; I warmly recommend one of the numerous guided tours that are organized there, accompanied by the Etruscologist who is the director. It was a fascinating experience, I saw this place with different eyes. The cost of the ticket is 3 euros, the guided tour is priceless... in the double sense that you don't pay and it is priceless! Always better to call for reservations.

Very interesting Etruscan burial chamber, essential but incredibly atmospheric. You descend into the depths surrounded by Etruscan urns each of a character from the Volumni family. An important aspect to consider is the passion and friendliness of the custodian who had the opportunity to spend time with us to illustrate, beyond what the short introductory film said, the history of the hypogeum and its discovery.
Outside the hypogeum you follow a path between other bare tombs which create an exceptional context up to a small but interesting museum.
The burial chamber and the people in charge therefore deserve a greater number of visits and greater popularity.
When this arrives, however, it would be necessary to take action in the area to redeem the infamous arrangement which gives the sensation that one does not believe in what one is invited to see.
In particular, the car park should be rearranged as it appears abandoned and is also unsafe as demonstrated by the theft and car violation that we suffered during the visit.

Piccolo gioiello.

Viewed as one of the most interesting ipogeum (hypogeum) that I've seen through my travels in Italy. What makes this most interesting is the number of funerary urns displayed that include rare ones still showing the original paint that is over 2000 years old.
The actual burial chamber is built in the form of a typical Roman house that has architectural details on the ceilings and a rather detailed tympanum. The "triclinum" of the burial chamber contains very elaborate funerary urns from the (possibly) 3rd to 1st century BC and one unique urn from the 1st century AD.
Before entering the burial chamber there are numerous funerary urns from the various families that were interred in the surrounding Palazzone necropolis. Some are basic Hellenistic cinerary urns made of travertine but others are elaborately made scenes of mythology and of banquets, Medusas, sea monsters, bucrania, and other various motifs.
The admission price also includes the various underground tombs outside in the Palazzone necropolis as well as the Antiquarium. The necropolis contains Hellenstic tombs with one notable one entitled the "Tomb Bella". This tomb is embellished with architectural details that are somewhat difficult to see due to the plexiglass screening to protect the tomb.
The Antiquarium is the one area that I immensely enjoyed due to the rare and unique cinerary urns on display. Here one can see rare cinerary urns that still retain the original painted colors that were typical of the time. Most people believe that Etruscan and Roman remains were devoid of any color. This is quite the opposite since many cinerary, sarcophagi, and temples were adorned with painted details that over time have been lost. Not here - the examples on display are quite impressive and well worth a visit to see.
Overall, this site is a must to be visited for the wealth of cinerary urns on display as well as the Etruscan tomb. Parking is free nearby the site (follow the signs). The entrance fee is 3 Euros per person. The museum curators were very pleasant and spoke English well explaining what the entrance price included and what to see. Lastly, a small English text "guide" with photos is also available for 2.50 Euro.

Nei giorni feriali (periodo estivo) è sempre comunque aperto (rispettando gli orari indicati) o occorre avvisare/prenotare? Indicativamente quanto tempo richiede la visita? Grazie.
Skrevet 7. juli 2019
Per gli orari non so proprio rispondere. Per la visita, direi un'oretta.
