Ci sarebbero tante opere importanti in questo museo ma se ne vedono solo alcune, in quanto, con discutibilissima scelta, per dare spazio a delle mostre temporanee, vengono tolti molti quadri antichi, nonostante gli spazi ci siano. Tantissime le opere di Holder, interessanti.

The basement of the Kunstmuseum Bern is a hidden gem. A very nice, but limited, collection of works by artists including Picasso, Klee, Kandinsky, Miro, Monet, Matisse, van Gogh, and others. The limited quantity of works in the exhibit space made it easy to compare and contrast these artists through time and style. Upstairs contained some very interesting works by Swiss and other artists. We spent about 1-1/2 hours at the museum and were very glad we made the visit. Senior discount made the admission for us only CHF 7, and we felt that this was a great value. Very good facility, including coffee shop, gift shop and free locker area. An easy walk from Bern's Old Town. Thumbs up.

Loved the fantastic paintings, especially Vlaminck.
The modern, grey concrete & galvanised steel building however would make Colditz look warm and inviting!
I guess it was intended to contrast with the art; in reality it is far too harsh & austere, actually detracting from the many fine paintings

Von aussen vermutet man gar nicht, was einen innen drinnen erwartet. Wundervolle Sammlungen, in einer tollen Anordnung.

Having followed the Gurlitt saga since it first made the headlines almost a decade ago, we were delighted our visit coincided with the latest exhibition concerning the trove of paintings and their provenance.
Marvellously presented, it describes the ethical difficulties of dealing with almost 1600 paintings left by Gurlitt as a bequest to this Bern museum, conforming to the 1998 Washington Principles and many other issues associated with both his and his father’s legacy .
A powerful statement is the enormous double walls containing images, both front and back, of the bequest in its entirety.
While viewing the selection it was fascinating to see the attendant traffic light system regarding the provenance of the works. Green for works determined not to be looted, orange for gaps in the assignments, and so on.
As well as the special Gurlitt exhibition, the gallery displays multitudes of other priceless paintings. Superb works by the renowned Ferdinand Hodler were great to see, particularly Der Tag and Die Nacht.
Kandinsky, Picasso, Miro, Braque, Chagall and many more were delightful to admire while strolling around over a couple of hours.

Opere presenti ben inferiori a quanto descritto in quantitá, ma soprattutto riguardo agli artisti presenti nella collezione permanente. Mancavano le opere principali causa prestito e la visita é stata deludente

A small collection of mostly little-known Swiss artists with a sprinkling of more well-known artists. Good for fans of Bonnard, though. We would have been better off spending the time walking around the old city.

Only 2 stars due to we were expecting a lot more masterpieces. The paintings/ arts were a bit too modern to our likings. However, staffs were nice & polite & the place was empty. It was nice to stroll around inside.
Lockers were on the basement and it's free to use.
Free entry with the Swiss Travel Pass.

It was really expensive for almost nothing (36 CHF= 12CHF for students and 24CHF for adults)-best part of the permanent exibition was closed and the lady at the ticket office didn't tell us before we bought the tickets, she only told us when we noticed that we couldn't find most of the paintings we wanted to see... she told us "you can come back on 30 of may, when you can see those paintings"
We couldn't see any of the paintings by Van Gogh, Cezane, Renoir...
There was no description in english for the works of art in the permanent exibition, but this is a museum in a capital in Europe!
The temporary exibition (Heidi Bucher) was weird and there's not much to see really, wouldn't recomend it...
Also the reviews on google maps are disabled, so maybe they had some more unhappy visitors...
