I was in Interlaken on holiday during the last week of August and decided to try Hang Gliding for the first time. I stumbled upon Bernie and Ed at Hang Gliding Interlaken. These guys are great. The experience was exhilarating! After we landed, my only thought was, I want to do it again and immediately! Bernie and Ed are pros and very funny to boot. I never felt unsafe as it was clearly evident that Bernie and Ed assured every precaution was checked. Plus, they made it blast as they are two pretty funny guys! Bottomline, I do it again in heartbeat and happily do it again with Hang Gliding Interlaken. If you want to try Hang gliding in Interlaken, this is the company to do it with!!

I went hang gliding with Rich! He was amazing ! He also helped me make a silly video for my sister and took me flying by the water :)
I also got lost and they came and picked me up! Such a nice and great team!

My girlfriend and I had a great time riding with this crew. The fellas were lively, talkative, supportive, and you could tell had a lifetime of experience doing this all over the world. Being an apprehensive flyer myself, they were very good at speaking to me about the mechanics and physics of hang-gliding which helped to calm my worries. The crew even moonlights as an Uber alternative, they will pick you up from wherever you are staying in the area, drive you up to the launch site, then drive you back to your hotel/airbnb or even drop you off at a restaurant or bar. The ride itself is spectacular, the photos hardly do it justice. Even if it is only a 10-12 minutes ride (depending on weather conditions) it is well worth the money and effort. Once on the ground the guys will offer you a beer (or whatever alcohol/soft drink you'd like) and let you process your heroing journey while they dismantle and fold up their gliders, all with top-notch banter and funny accents (Australian, or so they say).
Finally, what I'm sure you all clicked on this review for:
Fondue Facts:
Cheese fondue was invented in 1870 by Birdman Bernie's (Also known as "Buttman Bennie" by his Samsung Galaxy S12) Great Grandfather Hans Peter Vogel in the once remote and isolated mountain village of Interlaken in the Swiss Alps. The mountain people had to rely upon locally made food and eating the heated cheese was a good way to stay warm in the cold evenings after a long day of Hang Gliding in the sky above Interlaken.
Fondue is consumed with Kirsch, a colorless cheery brandy to aid digestions, promote interesting and humorous conversation.
General Note:
It is good to have a special pot called a "caquelon" to prepare a fondue but if you haven't got one you can use pretty much any pot, the heavier the better. Once the fondue is ready, the pot is set up on the table above a small burner called a "rechaud" or a tealight candle or two placed at the right height under the pot will do. Keep the fondue on a constant heat, but make sure it does not overheat. We use special forks with long handles and round shafts to dip the bread in the molten cheese, it also works with regular forks or even a stick if you are camping!
Ingredients for 4 persons:
- 2 loaves of unsliced bread
- 1 clove of garlic or heaps more if you like!
- 400g (.9 pounds) grated Gruyere cheese
- 400g (.9 pounds) grated Emmentaler cheese
- 4dl (1.75 cups) white wine for the pot and a couple more bottles to drink!
- 1 bottle of kirsch! (or similar)
- 2 teaspoons of cornstarch
Basically a total of 200g of cheese per person, if you can't get the types of cheese above then any yellow cheese will do!
Directions:
1. Open the bottle of Kirsch
2. Pour 4 shots & drink them with you 3 friends (or if you are alone, and known to have an attitude (which is probably why you're along), drink them with your other 3 personalities)
3. Cut the bread into bite sized cubes leaving some crust on each piece.
4. Cut the garlic in two and rub it all around on the inside of the pot and leave the remains in the pot, this is so the cheese doesn't stick to the pot. Put the cheese and the wine in the pot and heat on the stovetop. Constantly stir the mixture using a wooden spoon until all cheese has melted. Add the cornstarch to a shot of kirsch, then add this to the pot but keep stirring. Leave it on the stove for a while and keep stirring. It should bubble a bit but don't let it boil over. If at this stage things are going well and you are feeling like a TV Chef and want to impress your friends, add a little pepper and nutmeg!
5. Repeat Step 2, then fondue should be of an even consistency and resemble a thick cheese sauce.
6. Put the pot above the burner on the table. Adjust the heat so that the fondue is bubbling lightly while being enjoyed. Put a piece of bread on your fork, stir it gently into the fondue, spin it a few turns on the edge of the pot to cool it (this is the reason for the round fork shafts) and enjoy!
Advanced Techniques & Tips:
1. Dip the bread in Kirsch before you dip in the cheese!
2. You can also dip bite sized fruit & veggies in the cheese such as mushrooms, broccoli, pear and apple.
3. A pinch of baking soda added at the last minute will make it foamier & lighter.
4. If the fondue is too runny add another teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in Kirsch (and repeat step 2 from Directions above).
5. Facial hair has it's pros and its cons while eating Fondue...It can save you from molten cheese skin burns and provide a tasty breakfast starter the following morning but if you are going clubbing after the cheesy feast it could be the reason that you have so much space to yourself on the dance floor!
6. The greater the volume of air the Kirsch bottle acquires directly correlates to the level of exaggeration applied to the Hang Gliding stories told, which in turn has an increased effect on the decibel level in the room.
7. A pre-determined penalty should (in true Swiss style) be democratically decided for anyone who loses their bread in the fondue!
Enjoy! And remember the rules for a safe, long life;
Run Fast
Look Good
and...don't do anything dangerous!

The best experience in Interlaken. The team is so professional and makes it fun. It was my first time hang gliding after dreaming of it for years. Took 13 year old daughter and we both loved it. Did the tricks and got great photos and videos. Totally worth the price and seems more adventurous than paragliding. Thank you for a wonderful morning!!

We had such a great experience with this company. We visited from the US with our 10 year old daughter. We booked a few months before with Bernard and he gave us all the info we needed to get there by train. Ed picked us up from the train station with Mario. They had my husband go up first then my daughter and I went on the second trip. Ed was both my husbands and my pilot and Luke took care of our daughter. We felt super safe and had so much fun. These are professionals that run a an efficient and safe outfit and we were so glad to find them. Highly recommended.

SO MUCH FUN! Bernie and Ed (my pilot) were both great and funny! Enjoy something different hang gliding rather than paragliding. The views are beautiful and the ride was very smooth! They picked us up and dropped us off at our accommodations which was a plus. Pictures were worth it as well. Highly recommend!

No......there are no women Hang Gliding tandem Pilots in the world that I know of either. However, we do have some experience flying with Arabic women but maybe they are the ones that are not too strict with their muslim religion.
