I have a son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Stokkel, so I'm already predisposed toward the place. I have to say, however, that after Leuven, where I've lived and worked, Stokkel is my favorite place in Belgium to spend an extended period of time. It is not for someone who is in Brussels for just a day or two. It is, rather, the sort of place where you live and where, unlike touristy areas, you see how others who are there more or less permanently live. Lots of expats, of course, but the expat community does not define it nor set the tone of the place. Place Dumon is lovely and despite what I read in one of the reviews, is a genuine Belgian market (I have been to dozens of them). The walking/cycling trail that you can get onto about 400 metres from Place Dumon is marvelous.

A little bit of everything and the shop keepers are very welcoming and helpful. I loved walking around whilst it was quiet, plenty of parking. Great places to eat, hard to choose where to though. Been 3 times now and discover new shops each time

The open market three times a week sounds lovely but it is not really a farmers market. Many things are overtly priced and market sellers are known to miscalculate things often when you buy many things and do not check the paper receipt they give. Most of the shops are too expensive. Flower shops are very nice in spring. Good to have banks, pharmacy, some Italian restaurants in the area. The most expensive shop Match is there, reported last year as the most expensive in Brussels. It is a nice area but half of it is make-believe...

The location is perfect for living. In Stockel is the last station of the Metro that allow you to travel rapid to every part of Bruxelles. There are different types of shops and three times a week there is a volant market. There is an Cinema, some very nice and cosy restaurants, mostly Italian. For sweets you could enjoy the Portuguese Nata, very fresh and well prepared by a a veritable Portuguese sweets cooker. Nata is an egg tart pastry dusted with cinnamon. For Belgian chocolate in Stockel Squere area you can find several shops of different chocolate producers. On one of the Square corner is BeBurger restaurant that serve very good burgers.

Interesting market. Great to wander around in. Lots of grocery (meat, fish, bveggies, chesse) stalls. Local people do their grocery shopping there. Many food stalls with good walk away food choices. Several good restaurants nearby (We lived nearby for 3 years in the 90s). Market is open Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings. Easy to reach from central Brussels, it's the last stop on the Stokkel metro line. Worth a visit.

Locals have their food shops here. Unfortunately Mahieux closed. Not the place to go to if you have little time to spend in Brussels unless you stay close by.

I am at this market just about every day it is open, 3 days a week. Saturday is the largest, but there is never a shortage of vendors for everything you want. Meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, bread, pastries, farm fresh yogurt... I can go on. It is very easy to get to, just take the Metro #1 to the end at Stockel and you are right there! Highly recommended!

This little suburban shopping center has a bit of everything and also direct access to public transport (metro & tram).
My favourite is the Japanese food store.
