Very nice setting in a completely renovated pub/restaurant. Pleasant bottle of Pinot Grigio, reasonably price.
I had the crab linguine, which came with two long slices of red peppers across the top of the dish. I decided to start with some of this red pepper, which turned out to be a very hot chilli. So hot I had to request a glass of milk as my tongue and lower lip were on fire. I therefore had a problem tasting the stodgy crab linguine, and didn’t even manage to eat half of it.
My partner had mushroom risotto, and again she managed to eat less than half. There was no flavour to it and it was too wet.
The young waiters took the plates away without asking how it was. Then a senior waiter came with the dessert menu and she did ask. We told her that both dishes were a disappointment, and we were given 10% discount off the two meals.
Looking at the other tables , they were eating burgers or battered fish, so you couldn’t get those dishes very wrong.
I do not think that we will be back.

I was disappointed to find this venue closed for building work, even though this was not stated on the TripAdvisor website. You should check before you go, but it looks like it will be closed for many months.

I live in this village and for several years now this pub has had a succession of bad owners and managers .
It used to be very popular with good country food . Very friendly and social .
However it’s guess work when it’s open and it seems to be a structural effort to close it as they are building houses
Directly behind it and the pub is only an obstacle in there way .
Villages need a social centre pub to make it a village instead of just a commuters quite place to live .
SO SAD. 😒

A group of four of us went on a ramble yesterday that quite by chance started and finished at this pub. We were already impressed by the accommodating nature of whoever it was who answered the phone when we rang to book. Yes, of course you can park in the car park for the morning while you're doing your ramble. Yes of course dogs are welcome. And yes of course you can book a table for lunch.

The pub did look ever-so-slightly, how can I put it, unloved, when we arrived for our walk. But when we had returned some three hours later and gone inside we certainly didn't feel unloved. The barman was warm and friendly, and we settled down in front of a real, blazing wood fire. The food menu chalked over the bar was quite short, but offered several tempting-sounding dishes. Three of us plumped for the chicken pie; the fourth the lasagne.

The place had the air of a traditional village pub, without many concessions to 'gastro-ism'. But the wine list behind the bar was intriguing. I've never before seen a choice of Barolo, Brunello, and Amarone in a pub—and that was just the Italian wines!

Anyway, the food arrived, shortly followed by the governor. He obviously wanted to hear what he justifiably expected to hear about the quality of the food. It was unreservedly delicious. The chicken pies, served in piping hot pie dishes, were packed full of meat, topped with a light, flaky pastry cover, and accompanied with a delicious gravy. The lasagne too looked, and apparently was, most tasty. This was not fine dining—it was more delicious than that!

This is a simple pub in a small village, where the new owner is trying to drum up custom by offering really high quality pub food. And when it comes to cooking he certainly knows what he's doing. He deserves to make it a success. I would recommend it unreservedly if you're in the area and want to try some good, tasty, unpretentious home cooking.

Five of us enjoyed a very pleasant lunch sitting outside in the sunshine and were well looked after by the landlord

I went this evening with my girls. They had lasagne, pizza and I had pheasant pie. It was all very good. Tasted very home-made. Excellent, robust tasting food, friendly guy serving. Probably the best pie I've had in 20 years actually.
Highly recommended. Decor is nothing much but the food and home-made style and ambience more than made up for it.

We had a good walk from Wyck (for a late lunch) and to be honest the pub did not look too attractive - just two men drinking.

The barman (owner?) was Italian and recommended a couple of dishes. All four of us were astounded at how good our food was.

The "But: DO NOT HAVE THE COFFEE! The Cappuccino is of the powdered sickly sweet variety.

Please invest in a proper coffee machine.

We were so looking forward to our well earned lunch today after a lovely walk. Well, what can I say other than 'Faulty Towers' comes to mind! Firstly the very friendly, but direct, landlord was surprised to have customers asking for food and we were equally surprised as we had called yesterday and booked a table! Total lack of atmosphere in the pub. Food was edible but left a lot to be desired - salad on everyones plates had seen better days - going brown with age!! Plates of uneaten food lay on surrounding tables - not a good sight and flowers on all tables were withered and looking very sorry for themselves. Hey ho, what can you do? We made the best of things and had a good
laugh non the less. After being told the only coffee on offer was instant we moved on to another establishment for coffee & cake. I certainly won't be recommending this pub to anyone, sorry.
p.s. drinks were pricey too ........

Service was very good and friendly; ambience is a bit retro 60s/70s; food has an Italian twist made by chef Franco. I had Sea Bass - this was quite good with new potatoes, fresh vegetables correctly cooked and with a small salad included. Dessert was a bakewell type cheesecake and unusual fig ice cream but both were unfortunately totally overwhelmed by a completely unnecessary off-the-shelf strawberry sauce. Generally OK.

Several of our cricket team dropped in here last week and we had booked for 4 + high chair. We arrived with our dog as well and were moved from the Dining Room to the bar area but this was not unexpected nor were we worried. We decided to have Italian and what great choices they were, all freshly cooked and piping hot while 3 year old Emily had chicken nuggets. The beer was well kept, fresh and clear. This pub that was under threat has now taken on a new lease of life and well worth preserving.
