The location of the centre given on Trip Advisor is incorrect by a couple of hundred metres but on our arrival, we were very grateful to be able to use their toilets and buy some soft drinks and cork products.
The lady at the centre was very friendly and helpful; even giving us advise on visiting and parking at Evora. The owners of this centre have created a dozen excellent outdoor educational boards covering topics such as probable interpretations of the carvings on the megaliths, how they were erected, regional pre-history, more modern local history (ie from the Romans and since) and flora and fauna. Without this background, the visit would have been far less engaging.
The lady warned us the roads were terrible. Indeed, a grader is urgently needed as the buses and cars have to crawl along. The dirt road is so degraded, if it was a ski field the surface would be described as very challenging moguls.
The 92 Cromeleque dos Almendres standing stones are well worth a visit, although you are separated from them by a fence.
When walking to the single Menhir dos Almendres, wear good walking shoes and avoid the brambles.

The site is fantastic and I even understand the current fence to protect the vegetation, although it seems to me that a high observation point should be built to allow the space to be covered.
What seems unacceptable to me is the condition of the road, it is something from the third world and determines my current classification

A long ride up a poorly maintained dirt road and then a muddy walk. Fencing has been erected around the stones so getting a view really isn’t possible. Stone Henge it isn’t. Not sure it’s worth the time unless you really want to see 4000 year old stones.

The interpretive center is located along the road towards the Almendres Cromlech. Look for the cork covered building on the right side of the road. A car park is located adjacent to the building.
Inside the building are souvenirs and other items for sale about Portugal and more specifically the Cromlech. The staff here are a font of knowledge about the history and structures of the area.
Outside on the grounds there is an information nature trail with signage detailing some of the flora and fauna of the area along with all the wonders to see in the area. There is also a small picnic area and a replica ancient village.
Worth stopping prior to visiting the Cromlech.

The history of this site is staggering, and I loved visiting. It is such a special place to see and appreciate. The drive up to the site is really interesting too, there's a lot of trees used for corks so you'll see their bark has been cut off. Don't miss the museum and shop to learn about the history!

Short drive through interesting countryside out of town. Then a drive through cork tree orchards to reach this special place. What happened here centuries ago?? Amazing that they could move these stones!! We're not big shoppers but so glad we stopped at the storefront at the entry to buy quality cork products, rather than the cheap-looking alternatives in town.

Located around 10km off the main road between Évora and Lisbon ( close to Évora) there is a section of rough non paved road but ok for most vehicles to access.
These ancient stones are thought to date back to perhaps the 4th century BC and while nothing like Stonehenge, predate it by Millenia
The best part of a visit here is the walk along the path though a cork tree orchard which clearly shows how the cork bark is stripped from the trees

Hello! Can I get there by bike from Evora? Is it dangerous to go there by bike?
Skrevet 15. september 2017
Hello. The site is a few miles outside the city. But not too far away. I think, with due caution, it is also possible to get on a bike.
Skrevet 15. september 2017
We will be renting a car and driving around Portugal for 2 weeks and staying in Evora for 2 nights.
From what I have been reading, It appears roads to this sight are very rough. Are there tours or other modes of transportation to get there?
Skrevet 24. mai 2016
We visited the site with a very competent guide. He picked us up with a driver at our hotel along with a few other persons coming from other hotels. He knows the way and the site being an archeologist himself.
The name of his small company: Ebora Megalithica Guided tours,
His name: Mário Carvalho

There is also a website under eboramegalithica.

What is the best way to get there from Evora by a public transport?
Are there any special tour buses or anything like that?
Skrevet 9. februar 2016
No public transport, and it's well off the beaten track. We had our own car, but car hire is cheap in Portugal (if you don't do it through an hotel) - probably less than a taxi. Well worth the trek, however you get there. We saw some bike rentals in Evora, but there's nowhere secure at the stones; you'd have to chain it to a tree.

Boa visita
