This was an awesome experience, highly recommend. Our guide Felipe was incredible, bringing us to some of the best spots to view Sete Cidades as well as the North Coast while providing some historical knowledge and legends. One point to note: if you have no prior experience with ATVs, off-road driving, mountain biking, or a similar outdoor experience, this may not be the activity for you because there is very little guidance or direction- you are expected to drive on both smooth main roads and off-road, dirt mountain roads with moderate steepness (maybe 25-35 degrees), and there is little practice beforehand. While I had never driven an ATV, I have trail biking experience and found this activity challenging but rewarding once I got the hang of it. That being said, Felipe was very helpful, offering steering advice while taking paths that were easier to traverse, but there was still a challenge as temperatures became cold with heavy winds at some points and the terrain was uneven on both uphills and downhills. Hope you are able to give this a try if you are comfortable, well worth it and hope to go again next time I’m in the Azores.
