Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit. Regarding your complaints, we can only see them as misconceptions of what a modern planetarium is. The focus of a planetarium are indeed its fulldome shows (you can also call them immersive "movies" or "documentaries"). That is why many planetariums around the world actually name themselves "Immersive Cinemas". Nonetheless, the Porto Planetarium is managed by the largest portuguese astrophysics research institute, so we keep astronomy as the focus of all our shows. We also make it a point to present the night sky in all shows, usually presented live by experts from the Science Communication Group of the Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço. Most of our shows are indeed in our native language simply because most of our visitors are native speakers. This is not an uncommon practise in planetariums around the world. However, during school breaks, we offer one show per day presented in english (during week days), especially for tourists.

Dear Martin, Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit. Our location is what it is, and there is not much we can do about it. As an alternative to a Taxi/Uber, there are the "Planetario" bus stops, just 5 minutes walking distance, and we are only a 20 minute walk from "Casa da Música" metro station. As for the rest of your complaints, we can only see them as misconceptions of what a planetarium does. - The focus of a planetarium are its fulldome shows. The Porto Planetarium is not an exhibition or experimental type of science center, where you can spend the whole day doing different activities. We do have a few exhibition modules, aimed especially at people waiting for the next planetarium show. - But the planetarium building is a public building, so admission to the building is free. This includes access to a cafe, a scale model of the solar system, a solar system game, a black hole simulator, a showcase with a small piece of Hubble Space Telescope's solar panels, our historic Zeiss planetarium projector and an astronomical image exhibition. - The planetarium shows, which take place inside the planetarium dome, are not free. However, tickets to a show are NOT 12 euro per person. That is the price of our family ticket, which includes 2 adults and children (one or more). An individual adult ticket is 5 euro, and a child ticket (ages 6-17) is 3,5 euro, so a family of 3 has an 11% discount. For a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) however, that's a 41% discount. During week days, on school holidays, we run shows at 11:00, 14:00 and 15:00 in Portuguese, and at 16:00 in English. - The shows we run in English have at least one short film, lasting from 7 to 12 minutes, and one feature film, lasting from 23 to 40 minutes. In addition to the recorded part, our staff is always available to talk to the visitors, and answer any of their questions. With all this, our shows can last up to one hour. But you chose to just walk in, only see the free exhibitions in the hall and leave, not attending any of our planetarium shows. So we feel that classifying our offer in English as a scam, is not only unfair but simply not true. We hope you can visit us again in the future, in particular for a planetarium show.

Dear Sonia, we are sorry you didn't have a more positive experience. In regards of your complaints, please bare in mind that the Porto Planetarium is a public building, with public access to most of it, so the building schedule is not the same as the shows schedule. The shows have fixed times, while the building is open continuously from 9:30 to 17:30. When you visited, we had shows at 10:00, 11:00, 14:30 and 15:30, so yes, if you arrived at 11:30, the last show of the morning was already underway, and the first show of the afternoon would only start at 14:30. We do have a few exhibition modules in the hall, which are aimed especially (but not exclusively) at people waiting for the next planetarium show. The cafeteria is concessioned, not managed by the planetarium, and we have no control when they chose to start serving food. However, as far as we know, 12:00 is the time they start serving lunch, but they open for business at 9:30.
