Over the two days we took two teams of 5 Huskies into the finish wilderness led by our Guide Aki who is very knowledgeable in the area and of course with the dogs. At the time we went there were 27 dogs on the farm and most were working with some retired.
The dogs are well cared for and happy which we were thrilled to see with plenty of outdoor space to roam and company of 27 dogs. Some even stayed inside the house which was nice and if wanted can stay in your room.
The accommodation is by a lake which was frozen in winter of course and a highlight was a private sauna and a Ice hole in the lake to cool off with.
Whilst out with the dogs we didn’t see any other people or buildings it was just wilderness and so beautiful. Just the pattern of dogs feet in snow and the wind.
Everything is catered for in this trip, from hotel transfers, dietary requirements ect. And as it is private tour they are willing to make it personal to your needs and desire if appropriate.
Suvi made some great traditional food that kept us warm and fuelled for the days sledging.
This was a 5 star tour and I would recommend this to everybody .
If you want a truly private experience this is a great option!

Fantastic fun and great homesourced (some foraged) food , Suvi & Aki could not have made us feel more welcome . The dogs are well loved and all characters.they happily pull the wooden sleds 20 km or so , the terrain is frozen lakes pine forests open bog land some small hills. After a day sledding we could then relax in their lovely lakeside wood fired sauna ..... perfect retreat from the world ( but good wifi & phone signal if you need it)

If you are looking for a break from busy modern life, this is the perfect place for you.
Finland and it's nature was even more impressive and beautiful than we expected and our hosts (Suvi and Aki) were wonderful and welcoming (as were the 28 huskies we shared the week with!)
Going out and waking along the trails with the huskies was definitely the highlight and we were lucky enough to do this several times, but we also very much enjoyed foraging for berries to make jam with and collecting mushrooms! We even enjoyed a canoe trip on the lake!
We completely switched off and just enjoined our surroundings!
Our accommodation was clean and warm and very comfortable. And we enjoyed a relaxing sauna every evening.
I also feel a special mention should be made about the food we enjoyed! Before going I had a fear that we may be trapped in the woods with small portions of food or food which was of poor quality-as vegetarians some people struggle to adapt to cooking with out meat. However I was very much mistaken in my worries. Suvi is an excellent cook and her food was not only delicious but very filling! Just what was needed after a day of walking or foraging.
The huskies however were the stars of the holiday! 28 and all completely different personalities and characters! So well loved and looked after by Suvi and Aki, all were friendly and happy!
Our holiday was late September and temperatures were mostly between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. There was no sign of any mosquitoes.
We had a wonderful time and would recommend to anyone else who likes the out doors, wants to spend some time with huskies or just wants to try a different type of holiday.

We decided to go here on a recommendation of Responsible Travel. The place is lovely and remote, with a cabin situated on the lake. Aki and Suvi who run the holiday have 27 lovely huskies which they look after extremely well, which was nice to see. We had great wilderness walks with the dogs, a lovely sauna on our return and fantastic home-cooked meals with local produce. Aki and Suvi told us lots about Finland and their region. Moreover, there is the opportunity to help with the dogs and even go fishing. We stayed for 5 days and could have easily stayed another 5. A great place for everyone who likes dogs and a remote wilderness experience.

We had a great week in the company of Ali and Suvi and all their beautiful husky dogs. We were so well looked after and experienced the amazing sledding through such beautiful surroundings. The accomodation was warm and cozy and we were fed very well! The trip far exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend it particularly dog lovers!!

We stayed with Aki and Suvi, the couple who run Routa Travel and the husky farm, for five nights in late July and had the most amazing time. We loved meeting and getting to know the huskies, including two c.12km treks with some of them in beautiful forests nearby. Suvi and Aki were such generous, knowledgeable and welcoming hosts, and taught us so much about this part of Finland as well as making us delicious meals. The property is on the shore of a stunning private lake, which we were able to canoe around on one sunny day and row out into to fish on another. There is a brilliant and very welcome traditional sauna right by the lake which we took full advantage of! Can't recommend highly enough (watch out for the mosquitos though!).

We spent 4 days in Finland on a romantic husky sledding trip arranged by Routa travel. It was a wonderful experience and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants to spend quality time with lovely huskies and enjoy beautiful winter Finnish scenery.
We booked a package trip where we stayed in a hotel for two nights, and Suvi and Aki's cabin for one night in between. The hotel was nice and secluded when we were there, and the cabin was lovely and cosy. The food was excellent throughout our trip. We really enjoyed Suvi's cooking, with lots of local ingredients that they had sourced themselves. We also loved using the traditional sauna at the cabin.
But the star of the show were undoubtedly the dogs! They were beautiful and energetic and friendly and it was such a treat to spend time with them both outdoors and indoors. Our package included two days of sledding, each lasting several hours with a snack stop in the middle. It's clear that the dogs really love going out and pulling the sleds, and we were delighted with their cute antics on the trail. They were so eager to go that often they would move the sled even when I had both feet on the brake! The late winter landscape was really pristine and beautiful as well.
We really enjoyed our trip and thought that it was a well-planned mixture of activity and rest, and lots of yummy food! Thank you to Suvi and Aki for a lovely experience!
My only piece of advice is to leave plenty of transit time between your flight to Helsinki and the next flight to Kajaani! Finnair will let you book flights with only 40 minutes of transit time, which was what we booked. We made it, but only after a terrible mad dash through the airport. I would recommend leaving more transit time for less stress. (This was entirely my own fault - Routa's package does not include flights.)

We stayed with Suvi and Aki for 3 days in February and what a glorious 3 days they were. Suvi met us from Kajaani airport and drove us to our hotel in Kuhmo (some 2 hours drive in snowy and icy conditions), telling us about the area as we went. Over the next few days, Suvi chauffeured us to various locations in the region, always with a smile and lots of local knowledge - she was a godsend.
For the last 3 days, we were based at Suvi & Aki's home along with their 27 working dogs. Tim and I were made to feel so welcome, fed fantastic food, invited to help with the dogs each day as well as driving our own sled team. We also got to put up birdboxes in a protected area of old forest as part of their conservation work. I also had use of their traditional wood-fired sauna on 2 nights which was wonderful.
The whole experience exceeded our expectations and has certainly made us think about returning to Finland in the future, perhaps for a summer holiday so we can see this beautiful region without snow. A real 'trip of a lifetime'!

Wir haben 5 Tage mit Aki und Suvi und ihren vierbeinigen Freunden auf der Huskyfarm verbracht und jede Minute genossen! Die beiden sind extrem gastfreundlich und haben ein wunderschönes Häuschen mit Sauna am Rande eines Sees. Die Touren mit den Huskies waren einfach klasse, die Winterlandschaft traumhaft. Neben dem exzellenten Essen und den netten Gesprächen waren die Hunde natürlich ein weiteres Highlight. Wer Hunde, Natur und Schnee mag, der sollte sich einen Aufenthalt hier nicht entgehen lassen. Für uns steht fest, dass wir wiederkommen werden!

My husband and I stayed with Suvi and Aki for 4 days of sledding , we had an amazing time , their cabin is very cosy, the food very tasty . they are passionate about their dogs and all wildlife , nothing is too much trouble , the sauna is great , its home from home and a special experience . loved every minute.
