I have been going to Stobo Castle for over 20 years, twice a year. I cannot rate the venue, staff, food, facilities and views highly enough.

Ok, so our three day stay at Stobo Castle Spa was not cheap, but it was well worth it!
A few months ago my girlfriend was feeling quite worn out by work and said she would really love a few days of relaxation and pampering.
So I said - let's go to Stobo Castle! Sure, she said, but maybe somewhere not quite so expensive?
After a bit of research I convinced her that 3 days at Stobo actually represented good value, with access to the spa, the signature Tranquility treatment, all meals, and accommodation coming in at around 650 to 700 pounds each. We decided to save some money by staying at the Castle Lodge rather than in the castle itself, but I finally won my beloved over with my exclamation - hey, we're nearly 60, I want to be able to say I've been to Stobo at least once in my life!
Next, a couple of my girlfriend's friends had a stay at Stobo in January and related what a good time they'd had, so we further committed to some extra treatments - the signature massage for me, my gf deciding upon the Indian Head Massage and the Hot Stones Massage.
So we rolled down to Stobo on Monday 4th April. We were warmly welcomed, given a tour, it was explained to us that the Lodge would be our accommodation only, everything else in the main castle. We then headed up to the Lodge, just a couple of hundred metres away.
The room itself was totally fine, nicely furnished, good firm bed, nice bathroom, shower, all spotlessly clean.
After unpacking, it was time for our evening meal, we headed down and had a really tasty and wholesome dinner, a glass of wine (all drinks extra, though I kind of expected that). I admit that I was slightly worried that the meals would be a bit spartan, oh so "healthy", but Stobo is no bootcamp! Delicious, nutritious and restaurant quality meals are the order of the day!
We booked breakfast for 8:45 and turned in for the night.
So day two began with a great breakfast, then we took use of the gym, pool, steam room, sauna and, after all that effort, chilled right down in the Relaxation Suite. It's a hard life, but someone's got to do it! My gf also had her first treatment, the Indian Head Massage, which she reported she'd thoroughly enjoyed!
While waiting for lunch in the courtyard, managing director and owner Mandy Winyard passed by and stopped to chat with us, giving us a potted history of the castle and of the family's 40 odd year involvement in running Stobo as a health spa. In fact, Mandy stopped by on the next two days and asked how we had got on, what we'd been doing etc. Very welcoming!
Our only slight issue was that some of our activity time slots clashed with other things we'd have liked to do - we had treatments around 2:30pm on the Tuesday, meaning we couldn't fit in the guided walk of the grounds and surrounding area, and then on the Wednesday our treatment times meant we couldn't go to the yoga class...
We did however go for a walk on our own down to the Japanese Garden, a nice tranquil spot, which we enjoyed despite the rain!
I did really enjoy my Signature Massage, expertly done by Heather, including a nice chap at the end about the advantages of massage for maintaining good mental health.
The highlight for us both was the Tranquility Ritual, which we both has on the Wednesday, gf with Emma, and mine with Claudia. This really was superb, I've never felt so pampered and so tranquil in all my life! It was different from what I expected, I guess I thought it would be based around aroma therapy and mindfulness... I'll leave it for you to discover it for yourself, but I found it really quite beautiful, so peaceful, so nurturing and just two of some of the best hours of my life, I'm not exaggerating!
So Stobo... so is it worth it?
An emphatic yes from me!

The magic began the moment we stepped into Stobo nothing was too much trouble. All staff were helpful and polite, so keen to make our stay special. It was lovely and calm with just the right number of guests using the facilities (what a difference from a few years ago!). Our room in the main building was spotlessly clean and super comfy. We had a fabulous conversation with Debra the spa manager and it’s great to see someone who cares for her customers and her staff and the open door policy is obvious and sincere! Our treatments were awesome the signature massage is my favourite. Every item of food and drink consumed was delicious, right down to the coffee in the atrium where the staff took our order and then delivered it to our table - so relaxing! Thank you all it was the January pick up I needed x

As lovely as the main building, leisure facilities, gardens and idyllic setting are there were a number of issues which can't be ignored. The service isn't befitting of the "The Best Luxury Destination Spa in the World”. For example, numerous inconsistencies in service during our 1 night stay ... 3 course dinner served all within 40 min v 45 min wait for a Prosecco at lunch arriving only after second reminder....

I stayed here for 3 nights in the Cashmere Suite and had the most wonderful time.Everyone is lovely and friendly.The food is delicious.The treatments are pure luxury.
I had a terrible cold when I checked in but by the time I left,I felt brand new.
I can't remember everyone's name which is a shame because they all deserve a special mention. Mandy and Lauren in the spa are absolutely lovely. Very friendly and very professional. Mandy recommended I use the crystal steam room to help my cold which I did 2 days in a row and I felt so much better.
Callum was my usual waiter and Sharon.There was another lovely girl who served breakfast and asked how I was feeling which was sweet.
Everyone made me feel so welcome and at home.
The Japanese Water Gardens are stunning especially as it had snowed.The whole place is stunning.I had the most wonderful time and I thank you all for looking after me.

Person on the phone has a bad attitude it’s the second time I’ve had to deal with snooty reception staff at this place who act like they are doing you a favour.
Told me it was fully booked but I was able to book on website 5 mins later.

I’ve just returned from another amazing Spa Day with my Mum, we had the best time. The Staff were so welcoming and continued to go out of their way to make sure that we were having a nice day. A special thankyou to the Staff Member who greeted us at the Spa Reception, I think that her Name was Sophie but I’m unsure! She went out of her way to explain to us the new way things were working at the Spa and where we had to wait for our Treatments and where we would have our Lunch. This was our 4th visit but we hadn’t been since the Castle had reopened so this was really appreciated. She also took note that my Mum has Hearing Loss and said that she would inform the Beauty Therapist who my Mum would be seeing in the Afternoon of this so she knew

I had a Full Body Massage by Stacey which was amazing, definitely the best Massage that I’ve ever had and was so worth the Money. I then had a Luxury Facial by Nina which was fantastic, she was really accommodating and went to the effort of explaining all of the products she has used on my skin and why

The Food was amazing and the Spa facilities were brilliant as always, all the Staff go out of their way to say hello to you and make sure that you’re having a nice day

We were able to speak to Debra, Spa Director who had said hello to me & Mum. We hadn’t met her before and really appreciated her going out of her way to say hello

Before we had arrived we had had a few issues with our Treatments, we had paid them on booking and after I had filled out our Medical Forms in which was sent by E-Mail I was contacted to say that our Treatments had been placed on the Waiting List. However my Mum & I had booked a Luxury Spa Day and Revive Spa Day so this shouldn’t have been the case as our Treatments were part of our Packages. After a bit of confusion and a few Phonecalls this was thankfully sorted out

Once again thankyou Stobo Castle for making our stay so special, we can’t wait to come back!

Enjoyed room, water facilities, treatment but food portions have now been reduced soup is not even half ladel, main courses have been reduced and if you ask for weetabix you will receive 1 only.
This has now put me off going again.

Dear guest I was disappointed to see, in response to your initial TripAdvisor comment and subsequent email, you have now posted on this site, despite us addressing your issues in our previous replies. I, as a chef, am open to constructive criticism however when it isn't such I will defend myself and my team. I have worked here at Stobo for over 14 years, taking over as head chef in August 2019 and much of my loyal team have worked here for many years also. We strive to be the best we can and are always seeking to move forward, improving the quality and presentation as we do so. On the whole, I have received mostly highly positive feedback. I dictate the portion sizes of all the dishes and the team of chefs use that as their template. I am more than happy with the portion size of all our dishes and refute any claim portions are reduced and strongly refute that it is cost cutting behind any changes. The waiting staff serve the soup and in all my years at Stobo I have never had a complaint that the soup portion is small - I find it hard to believe it was a half ladel or less. Lastly you have highlighted and suggested you only received 1 weetabix as perhaps a way of cutting costs. Given that there is a full breakfast menu, selection of meat and cheese, cereal, fruit salad, pastries and yogurt, I think its safe to assume it was a misunderstanding. Rather than email and post a TripAdvisor review, would it not have been easier to ask at the time for 1, 2 or even 3 more weetabix? I can assure you this would have been no problem. This industry has suffered more than most these past two years. Behind the scenes, there is a dedicated team striving to give our guests the best experience we can. Constructive criticism and feedback are welcome, unjustified and unfounded comments not so much. Best wishes Stephen King Executive Head Chef

Stayed for the 2 night bliss package, wonderful place very tranquil, food was exceptional, all staff were fantastic so relaxed , fab room classic , treatment was fabulous, all in all a great spa .
Will definitely be back
The area where the cafe is is lovely, at night it would have been good to have been able to get a drink from there and maybe some soulful music playing in the background

My daughter & I visited recently for a 2 night stay and had the most wonderful time.
We stayed in the Oriental Suite which we absolutely loved. The bathroom was to die for.
It was our first visit to Stobo and we were so excited to visit. We were not disappointed. The facilities are outstanding. The staff could not have been any more helpful and friendly.
We had a few treatments which were fabulous and I’m slowly adapting to a life where I’m not having a wonderfully relaxing treatment every few hours 😂
The food is great with plenty of variety. We were very sad to leave and have of course booked again and are counting the days until we return.

Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable.
