Muchas gracias

An absolutely gorgeous ski resort, scenic and perfect for intermediate/beginner.
The slopes in Arinsal where we stayed were patchy in Feb, however after a dump overnight much better. Some runs were shut especially the reds prior to this, and the snowpark. Didn’t affect us though as could easily ski to gondola across to Pal. Pal had much better cover when Arinsal didn’t and had much longer runs with more variety.
The one thing that made this resort stand out was that the other skiers that Pal-Arinsal attracted were friendly, kind and not pushy. We both skied in French resorts where the skiers were argumentative at lifts, bulshy in queues and just rude. None of this at Arinsal, family friendly feel and no “elitist” feel you often find now. It’s perfect for families with the ski schools.

Excellent for those just starting out. There are tracks for all levels, quite beautiful. It's worth every moment. There are some cabins that could already be changed

Biggest green track I've ever seen, with no lateral abyss, wide and comfortable. However, the lift staff are rude and distracted. The signage is terrible and they shout at you without slowing down the lift. It is not written anywhere what position a child should be in. The signage is AWFUL. Zero respect for children. I saw a girl of about 9 years old lying like a turtle with its shell upside down and no one stopped to help (not even the instructors who passed by her). The lift employees chat and there is no one in the cabin. If someone falls, it will be very bad! The minilift is exclusively for those taking classes, which excludes children. Beginners who have not paid. There is a total inability to communicate, whether by boards or by staff. The pub in the outdoor area is excellent and so is the staff at the rental store. All the time you get run over on the green by people coming at high speed. I don't recommend it for anyone who doesn't know how to ski. They should review security.

A beautiful resort in the middle of the fir trees, very nice setting.
Snow and wind were forecast, and so when it came time to take the package, the reception was very good. Helpful staff to explain to us that the weather would strongly influence the percentage of areas open during the day. They took the time necessary to explain to us.
So we appreciated it.
The only downside is the staff at the various ski lifts, not chatty, polite or smiling. Not even a response when we say hello, or hola.

Little organization and no responsibility for what happens. My wife went to ski lessons for the first time in her life. One minute into class, a boy at very high speed hit her. She had injuries all over her body. Head, knee, neck, arms, etc. We lost days of travel, trips and despair over what happened.
The resort, in addition to not providing any assistance, simply said that it HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING.
Gerard, the customer service manager, asked if the guy “apologized”. Apparently it would be serious if he didn't apologize. He didn't even go to check on the victim's condition.
Question: How does a resort give skiing lessons in a place where accidents can occur? After the accident they say they are not responsible.
They make money, but they don't care for anyone's safety. SHE WAS IN THE CLASS PLACE!!! As if they allow someone to descend into that place at very high speed.
So know: Take insurance. Don't count on absolutely anything from the resort. They won't do anything for you. If you think about going there, buy packages from Brazilian agencies… our justice system is very different from theirs…
To Gerard, go take a refresher course in Brazil... you are very bad... you should work in assistance “against customers”

Where to begin!
We had group lessons for our entire family and it was perfect.
Norbert, Stephanie and flopi where beyond brilliant!
We started all as beginners and I felt completely at ease with my 8 year old and 12 year old off up the mountain with Norbert.
We did 5 days of lessons, all in the afternoon 2pm - 5pm. It was the perfect time. We got the am to practice and the afternoon to learn.
Met a great bunch of people and had a blast. Hope to come back in February for a few days.
Thank you so much for making our trip so amazing!

Snowboarding lessons
I took some snowboarding lessons with Douglas for the week (10am-1pm). Iv done a bit of snowboarding before in the UK but nothing on a resort. Douglas was patient and a great instructor.
After 3 days, Douglas got me confident enough to go it alone however it all depends on your own progression. The resort is small but great for beginners. There is a road all the way to the resort and large car park next to the shops/bar at the bottom of the slopes that serves food.
Had a great time learning to confidently snowboard and went it alone at the weekend.

Arinsal is a small, friendly resort with an excellent ski school. One very important point to make is that the skiing is very limited both in mileage and difficulty. There are really only two main runs down through the main bowl where they converge by the beginner’s area. One narrow run also goes down to village level.
If you are a very competent skier do not go here. You would be bored in a morning. However the resort is brilliant for beginners and intermediates who want to have lessons and improve their skiing technique.
There is a sister resort - Pal- which is reached via a cable car at the top. The skiing there is more varied and challenging. However it takes a while to get there. Improvements are being made to the connectivity I was assured.
The young seemed to like the resort. Lots of snowboarders. There was plenty for them to do in the evening/night time. For the more mature there are enough restaurants and bars to liven up the evening although a lot of older visitors keep to the comfort of the hotels I was told.
Although not snow sure, the configuration of the pistes mean that staff can concentrate the snow where needed even if the surrounding mountainsides are green/ brown. Snow cannon ensure a constant dusting of man made snow. Therefore the on piste conditions were fine when I visited (first week of Feb 2023) even if new snow was badly needed.
I really enjoyed the resort. As an ‘advanced intermediate’ ( level 4) I wanted a return to basics week simply concentrating on technique to improve my skiing. I am no longer interested in challenging slopes so this resort was perfect for my needs. A big shout out to David from the superb ski school who improved my skiing with great skill and patience. I will be back for sure.

Hi Nick I've been searching for a ski instructor recommendation at Pal/La Massena, I've seen Dave/David mentioned a couple of times, yours is the most recent post. Please can I ask which ski school he is with, his surname if you know it so I can try and book some lessons, thanks for your help, Esther

Are ski lockers available on the mountain
Skrevet 23. oktober 2018
There are and highly recommended if you stay at say the San Gothard ot Chalet Verdu and similar as they have a big walk everyday. If you stay at say the Montane as you are opposite the lift . If you stay at the Ushuaia or Patagonia at actually works against you as you have to get on and off a chair with no skis which is awkward.

Hi, I am skiing in Arinsal during Feb of next year, can anyone recommend a ski hire shop near to the Hotel Patagonia, I seem to remember a few at the top of the Gondola but not sure of the names. Many Thanks. Gary
Skrevet 15. oktober 2018
I was there end of April this year. I noticed there were a lot of ski shops around. Some are literally at the gondola boarding station. Can’t remember their names, though. I realized hiring from the top of the gondola (on the slopes) are slightly cheaper, very slightly.

Hi, hoping to go to Arinsal in February with a 6 year old. I'm looking for some extra non-skiing activities on the mountain and I've read there is sledging/tubing available but can't find it on a piste map. Has anyone had any experience of these (or other suitable activities)? Thanks!
Skrevet 19. september 2018
Hi we were there at the end of season and there was tubing available on one afternoon. There are apparently other activities but in the Pal region.

We know how dangerous the run is .. Our 17 year old son died there in March 2015 when he came off a sharp bend , there were no signs at the time and he came off we believe due to thinking the run went straight ahead on the bend . Vallnord have never apologised and have now put safety measures in place. I wouldn't recommend the whole area of Andorra due to their poor reactionsto our son going missing , no helicopter search for 4.5 hours , by then it was too late :(

Could anybody tell me how to get the the ski school
Skrevet 1. mars 2018
We as a family are looking to go away skiing to Arinsal late December and into the new year but we’re not sure what the snow conditions will be like at this time of year. We don’t want to spend a whole lot of money and then to find there isn’t any snow. Information on this would be appreciatied. Also we have some of us who will be absolute beginners, and some of us who are probably just under intermediate class, would arinsal be suitable for us? We have a 22 year old and 19 year old lads who are wondering what kind of nightlife there is for them, not sure they want to be confined to a hotel after skiiing allday. We also have a 11 year old boy and 12 year old girl with us and wondering if there areother things to do other than skiing in arinsal? Appreciate any info back.
Thanks
Skrevet 14. januar 2018
Arinsal is an excellent place for intermediate and beginner skiers and from that point of view the place is great. The ski school is also excellent and it is extremely likely you will get a British instructor as there are many of them. As far as Apres ski is concerned there is loads even for your guys in their twenties it’s not the rowdiest place but if you want to stay out till 3 am drinking there are lots of options.....try Cisco’s !!!!!!!! Bear in mind in happy hours you can get 2 pints for 3 or so euros.
As far as other activities are concerned most are located at Pal which is just down the road and you maybe able to get the ski lift over there depending on the conditions. There is mushing ( dog sleds) ......snow mobiles......if you go with a tour operator then I am sure they will organise things like pub crawls ....sledging etc etc
So what about the snow by late December the snow should be great but there are no guarantees anywhere from St Moritz to Whistler . All I will say is that for the last few years the snow has always been fine.
If you want a suggestion as to where to stay? It really depends on your budget. Very nice but relatively expensive is the Princessa Parc and Diana Parc.....if you want somewhere a bit cheaper consider the Palarines in Erts half way between Pal and Arinsal ......he runs you into either when you want plus there’s the ski bus. He’s a British guy called Graeme ...really nice. He has the best hotel food I have eaten anywhere organised by his Chinese wife Maria
Great places to eat include....Hunters run by the same people in Arinsal.....El Moli run by another Brit. Nightlife centres around Cisco’s......and the Derby Irish Bar but loads of options. Cero Otto has amazing Pizzas!,,
Overall Arinsal is a budget friendly very pleasant resort ideal for beginners. Lots of Brits and Irish everyone speaks English.....a great choice ...there are t least 30bars so you won’t be stuck in the hotel after skiing I guarantee it.

Hi I’m going skiing in January in Arinsal. It’s my first time skiing and iv bought my gear in lidl as I don’t want to end up with lots of stuff if i don’t like. The jacket and pants seem quite light(3000mm waterproof protection) , I’m a very very cold person by nature so I’m wondering would it be worth investing in something heavier/warmer? Iv looked at some Nevica pants and them seem more insulated. Also does it rain a lot in arinsal in January. Thanks
Skrevet 29. november 2017
Hi if it’s your first time skiing I’d advise getting some (pants in particular) that are more waterproof than that. You’ll spend a fair bit of time on your bum and you definitely don’t want to get wet as it’ll make you cold and miserable and potentially spoil your holiday. I wear 10k as a minimum, when your sat on a wet chairlift you’ll thank me. I wore 20k when learning (after advice from friends)
The trick to keeping warm is layering, lots of thin layers are far warmer than a big thick layer. Invest in proper base layers (top and bottom), do not scrimp on them!! Fleece jackets are a good idea too. Look up on the internet about layering up for skiing. Also, buy little hand warmers which can be cheap as chips but worth 20x their value while out on the slopes.
My final advice would be to invest in good technical ski socks. DO NOT wear ski tubes. You need proper ski socks, preferably with shin and sole padding. You’ll be spending a lot of time in uncomfortable ski boots you don’t want socks that rub and bunch up causing blisters (no skiing for the rest of the week!)
One last word Merino wool. Expensive but fantastic.
Hope you have a ball and will enjoy the mountains for years to come as I do
