This church is tucked away - perhaps 7 minutes from St. Stephan's. Make the short walk. To me, the Jesuit church and St. Peter's are both remarkable.
This church looks so unassigned in a little courtyard. But inside it is beautiful, serene, and magical.
If you are lucky there will be organ music which is very grand.

Located in a small quiet courtyard , this is the most beautiful church I visited in Vienna. Unassuming looking from the outside, the inside is incredible and a feast for the eyes.

Little gem tucked away. Beautiful inside, a must to go & see. It’s not a far walk off the main high street. We were lucky to hear the organ being played.

I visited this church out of curiosity to see the dome, painted in trompe l'oeil by Andrea Pozzo, the brilliant painter of the vault of Sant'Ignazio in Rome and author of famous treatises on anamorphic perspective. I was also rewarded by the splendour of the stucco decorations, especially the extraordinary sinuous columns with their sensual curves.

This is a feast for the eyes. It's a must see for baroque lovers. I could have stayed there the entire day just looking at the details.

Spectacular place with abundantly inlaid wooden benches and faux marble columns; the church overall is beautiful!

This is one of the Baroque gems scattered around Innere Stadt. Located on cozy little Dr.-Ignaz Seipel-Platz. Also known as University Church, it was constructed in the 1620s upon the grounds of an earlier chapel. In the early 18th-century, Italian Jesuit brother, Andrea Pozzo, redirected the church into the masterpiece that you find today.
The exterior is attractive with two front towers, the interior is ornate, decadent and beautiful. There is much to glaze your eyes upon. Don't miss the two-dimensional illusionary dome painted by Pozzo that is remarkable to view from the right positions. Well worth 10-15 minutes viewing the interior of the Church of the Jesuits if you enjoy art, Baroque architecture and visiting historic churches.

The Jesuit Church is characterized by austere exteriors and richly decorated interiors. We were particularly fascinated by the dome painted "trompe-l'oeil" by the Jesuit Andrea Pozzo in 1703.

During the 30 Years' War and the Counter-Reformation, Ferdinand I founded the church, which later became a university church. From the outside it is modest, but inside it is richly decorated with altars, gilded sculptures and twisted marble columns.

Jesuit churches are almost always going to be ornate affairs, often garishly so with an excess of guilt or over the top design. This one differs in being remarkably restrained for them and very tasteful. Beautiful, too. The ceiling, which admittedly has quite a bit of gilt, but more delicate and lighter in tone, has beautiful paintings at the center of each vaulted panel. Visually, it has a lighter, more airy and even playful feel than other Jesuit churches, too. The view down the wide center aisle to the sanctuary is particularly open and impressive. We did not have enough time to linger here and completely absorb it, but if we visit Vienna again, we will make a stop to remedy that.

Yes and well worth the pictures. They do have a small donation box so we threw in some Euro coins to help out and maintain this beautiful building.

Do they have sunday mass with choir during summer time?
I heard that many churches simplify their service(no choir, organ only) during summer(july-august),
so I just want to make sure if they still have the beautiful mass with choir in August.
I'm planning to visit there with my family who are not church goers, and I really want to give them a chance to have the most beautiful religious experience.
If they don't have full-high-mass during August, could anyone tell me where I can experience that kind of mass(with choir)?
Skrevet 29. juni 2015
If you want a Mass with Choir/music voice and organ/classical masses in the settings for which they where composer - go to Augustinerkirche. You will come away uplifted and never forget it. I shouldn't have to say so but PLEASE don't take photo's. Be there 3/4hr. early and you will hear practice- late and you will stand, it is a parish church. There is time enough before and after. It is firstly a religious occasion and should be respected as such. Donations are suggested afterwards.
Please be generous.

How would I get old Catholic Church records for 1880-1895 for Vienna?
Thank You,
Faith
Skrevet 7. mai 2015
Faith,
The only thing I have to add is that over the years I've written a number of letters to various institutions in Vienna asking somewhat arcane questions, and have never failed to receive a prompt, polite, and helpful answer. So go ahead and follow the advice of kkk512 and contact the Archdiocese at #2 Wollzeile. JSB

Which church is better for attending the high mass? Church of the Jesuits or
St. Stephen’s Cathedral?
Skrevet 24. januar 2015
Hello!
I can not properly answer your question. I am neither religious or Catholic. My love of these churches has everything to do with their architectural and artistic beauty and nothing with religion. I can say, however, that St. Stephens is often overwhelmed with tourists, even during religious ceremonies. The Church of the Jesuits is much smaller, more intimate, and has alot less tourists. Plus, I think it is prettier. For those reasons I would gues the smaller church is better if you wish to go for a more serious and sacred experience. Good luck!
