Northern Lights / Ski Trip

Recently back from a ski trip in Lyngen and met Kjetil who gave us the benefit of his experience and knowledge on the Northern Lights and managed to see the lights on day1... epic results, totally amazed. There is no doubt from chatting to Kjetil he knows exactly how to give you the best chance of seeing the them and capture the pictures. Immensely grateful Kjetil!!

We went with Kjetil on our first Aurora chase, we did not know what to expect because the weather conditions were not so good. Kjetil managed to find the right spot and we had a incredible light show far above expectations.
If you want to see the nothern light around Tromsø go find Kjetil, it’s magnificient 😍

The perfect guide

Kjetil was the perfect guide - friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. We went out with Kjetil two nights in a row and saw two different displays of Northern Lights. Our first night was just magical in the perfect setting over a frozen river with mountains around, just as I had always dreamed of seeing the aurora!! Kjetil took wonderful pictures that he was happy to share with us so we could just enjoy the experience. Our second night we headed onto the Islands and towards the sea, again we had a fantastic display. Kjetil seemed to be able to read the sky and tell you where it might come from and at what time! Each night he was right!!! A fantastic host who I will certainly be recommending to everyone!!!

Kjetil is native to the area and has bona fide knowledge of tracking down the Northern Lights. We were provided with suits to combat the low temperature together with tea, coffee and cakes, which were most welcome. Kjetil was willing to wait for as long as it took; we were blessed with a magnificent display lasting up to forty minutes. My husband and I were ecstatic and are still pinching ourselves in disbelief at our good fortune thanks to Kjetils's skills. The heavens smiled at us in more ways than one! As well as sharing such a mind blowing event, Kjetil turned out to be really good company and of genuine character, which served to enhance the experience further. My husband and I wholeheartedly recommend Kjetil to anyone with a desire to witness nature at it's best. :-)

Kjetil was AWESOME. Terrible weather in Tromsø forced us for a long evening. We found the Aurora and what a show. Family aged from 12 to 76 years. Everyone was kept comfortable even on a bitter cold night. Dont try to to take your cameras unless you are a professional. Kjetil has it covered as an expert for ohotoa. Keep your eyes on the sky. You won’t want to miss.

The perfect guide

There are a lot of guides who will take you to try to see the Northern Lights. It can be quite overwhelming when planning a trip. We are SO happy we chose to go with Kjetil. First, he is a local. He knows the area INCREDIBLY well. His knowledge of the Lights is also incredible. He will move around to help you get the best chance to see the Lights. (This is important, since there are several other guides and companies who will take you to their "location". If you are lucky you will see the Lights from that spot. Kjetil is willing to move around and is in constant contact with fellow guides to find a great spot.)

He is also a professional photographer. This is a HUGE bonus if you are looking for help and advice for your own photography OR if you are not very photo savvy, he helps with some wonderful photographic memories of your trip.

All this said, be prepared. He cannot control the weather! Luckily we were advised to plan at least two nights in Tromso. We were supposed to go out with him our first night there, and he was very good at communicating with us throughout the day, that the weather was not cooperating - including a snowstorm!. The chances of seeing the Lights that night were almost zero. He was willing to take us out if we insisted, but he was very honest and strongly advised against it. So, we decided to postpone and try for the next night.

The next day was very cloudy and rainy all day, so we were anxious that we may miss out. Again, Kjetil was in touch all day and encouraging to us that his apps (much better than ours) were saying the skies would clear into the evening. As our meet up time approached, the skies were still cloudy, and we were skeptical.

He drove us to a favorite spot on a lake, and sure enough, within a short time, the skies magically cleared! First we saw a sky full of stars! It was beautiful. We also saw quite a few shooting stars. Then, all of a sudden the true magic began. We were able to see several displays of the Northern Lights, each time more dramatic!

Yes, it was cold, but we read all of the recommendations, and we were prepared, so we weren't uncomfortable. Even after we started to head back, we stopped again on the side of the road for another Lights display.

This was my first time seeing the Northern Lights (my husband's second) and Kjetil understood my excitement and added so much to the experience. We would definitely go with him again and recommend him to friends and family who plan a similar trip.

"Unforgettable experience and once in lifetime view"

The most awaited tour of Norway was chasing the northern lights. We read the reviews and got to know about Kjetil Skogili and booked our tours 2/3 months in advance. He was on time pick up and delivered whatever was promised in his itenarary. Very down to earth person. Our good luck was, we were the only tour members that day and could interact with him personally well. Our little bad luck was the weather. Initially it was great, we could see the dancing rays and magnificient magic in the sky, but it was not lasting for long time due to sudden formation of clouds and rain. But those 2/3 hours driving along the coast, valley and learning about the tromso culture all were a great experience. The next day we had a chance to go on a drive with him upto Artic sea, Sommroy and back to Tromso. That was again a unforgettable memories.
Thank you Kjetil for being such a great host. We ll sure recommend to all our friends to take up tour with you. We are waiting to do a long sail through Artic sea with you. Hopefully it happens one day.

Fantastique expérience

Nous avons fait l'expérience d'une sortie avec Kjetil et c'était un moment magique. Déjà, nous étions un petit groupe, ce qui était agréable. Nous avons été sur trois sites differents, et avons chaque fois vu des aurores boréales. Kjetil avait un trepied supplémentaire à nous passer car nous n'étions pas équiper (prendre un réflex et trépied!). Conseils photos à la clé également. Café et biscuits sous un ciel dansant inoubliable sur le troisième site. Il y a certainement un élément de chance dans ces sorties, et nous avons eu beaucoup de chance ce soir là, mais Kjetil semble bien connaître les probabilités et les lieux, et n'hésite pas à conduire le temps qu'il faut. Je recommande vivement une sortie avec lui.

Kjetil is probably the best aurora chaser and photographer, I am wondering if he chase the lights or the lights chasing him. He is a very nice, kind, experienced, knowledged, patient and cheerful man. He knows what he is doing and enjoying it. Very highly recommended. We went out with him twice and both were great success, we saw enormous aurora shows. Thank you very much Kjetil.

Once in a Lifetime

Going to Norway and seeing the Northern lights was on my bucket list. We booked with Kjetil because we wanted a more personalized experience than the bus offerings. We booked two nights in a row to have the best chance of seeing the lights and we were glad we did. Kjetil picked us up on time and he was extremely knowledgeable about Tromso and where we might see the lights. The first night we didn't have to drive too far or wait too long before we started to see the lights. They were active and an amazing site. The second night Kjetil was tracking the lights and we drove about an hour. We waited for about 2 1/2 hours before anything happened. Kjetil was actively looking at his gadgets to ensure we had the best chance of seeing the lights, He is very patient and he is a great host. He brought outdoor suits for the two people who were with us (there was 6 of us) who did not dress appropriately. He also served tea/coffee and snacks on both nights. He helped us with our camera and he took pictures of everyone. That night he taught the entire group that in order to see the Northern lights you have to be patient and he was right. The second night was even better than the first and the show was nothing like we've ever seen. The lights were swirling around and at one point it looked like a curtain was closing as the show moved from left to right, We were just speechless. I will never forgot the experience and I know we made the right decision by booking with Kjetil. He knew just where to go, away from the crowds, and oh what a great call it was. Make sure you dress warm, bring a good camera (cell phones will not work), and be prepared to wait it out.
