Fascinating and very well presented. Do not miss the hidden herb garden! Poole pottery, cafe, archaeology, sea, flying boats, local history

Free admission.
Poole museum has multiple levels of art and historical pieces all with local ties. Very interesting pieces and information boards to read. The cafe has a lovely view of the tiw an harbour. Soya milk available.Toilets available.
Scaplen's Court was a lovely piece of history and features a small but pretty garden.
Great for history lovers.

I have been to art exhibits before, although none about animation.
There was a lot of contemporary animation there, not just typical 2D or 3D linear storytelling.
I liked the wide variety of items on display. There were plenty of projected and moving exhibits, with multiple screens that played a selection of
different films, so potentially your experience could vary depending on when you arrive and how long you stay.
There was a lot of focus on the National Centre for Computer Animation as an institution. Their history of educational certification and awards.
This is to be expected as it is the focus of the exhibit, but I would've liked to have seen more historic examples of different animation from them.
The exhibits were student work heavy, which is fine, but they are almost all recent examples, just showing what their current student body is
doing, which felt a bit like veiled advertising. Also, because of this, there were lots of monitors and a projecter to show the works they had
chosen, and many/most of them weren't turned on, so I couldn't even see them.
Before I went to the exhibition I thought I was excited to see historical examples of animation, but most of the information was more suited to
those with no knowledge. I already had some previous knowledge of animation before I went to the exhibit and I had hoped that it would expand
my knowledge or have some more historical examples, so I was somewhat disappointed with what they displayed. I did feel inspired to try more
animation and character design. I was somewhat annoyed that many of the displays weren't working, and I wouldv'e had people there to
troubleshoot the technology has I been curating the exhibition as it is such a technology heavy subject.

A lot of effort and detail has been put into this exhibition, well worth a visit, free entry donations accepted, track and trace focused, staff very helpful, lift to take you to the different floors, restaurant currently shut for now, if you are tall watch for head room

This is such an interesting old building. My children love visiting to play with the old fashioned toys and the gardens are lovely to sit in the summer. Its amazing that it’s free to visit! I only wish it was open more.

Loved this museum had so much going for it especially for kids - loved every minute of it. Need to book via eventbrite to make sure you can get in (covid restrictions etc) but pleasantly surprised with the amount of interesting things that they had on display. Spent a good hour inside and was thoroughly immersed in the history of Poole. Well worth a visit.

I don't know why some people moan about this museum or downgrade it as something to do on a rainy day. It is a fascinating little place dealing with all aspects of Poole's ancient and modern history. The staff are also helpful and friendly. Well worth the £3 suggested donation.

We visited on our trip to Poole, sadly we were not that impressed .There only 3 floors to visit ,a few old pottery items (Poole pottery ) and some old bits about boatmen in the harbour .The Cafe is ok , but there is a room on the outside, but no roof , no good if it is raining .

Had first visited here years ago and the lovely lady on the door did advise that a lot of the attractions geared towards the children had been removed due to Covid.

The museum was super clean. Hand sanitiser well located and the café staff were cleaning thoroughly.

It was very quiet when we went but that made it easier to look around. The visiting art display is beautiful.

My children enjoyed the working from home teddy family. A nice touch of humour.

Great place to while away just under an hour. The friendly approachable staff are great.

On a wild wet windy day in August with atrocious weather and driving rain We booked free tickets to visit the Poole museum located close to Poole Quay where boats depart for Brownsea island.. We were not disappointed.
The star attraction is a 5,000 year longboat hewn from a single enormous tree which was discovered in the last 10 years. On four floors the museum displays a range of artefacts explaining the history of Poole, its industry, its potteries, its place as a seaside resort and so on. I learned that Poole is the home both of Ryvita and of Lava lamps! There is enough of interest for children and certainly enough to occupy any adult for over an hour. It is well presented, and not too overwhelming. There is a small terrace café on the top floor serving a very limited range of drinks and snacks – with sensible Covid 19 restrictions.
The museum currently requires you to wear masks and of course to hand sanitise. But it is free and staffed by friendly people with a good gift shop. Well done for getting it open!
