Nice visit on the way home from Northumberland. Very interesting house and gardens. lots of Chippendale furniture. We also had a nice walk round the grounds.

Walking through the parkland was as lovely as ever. Just don't expect to get a drink or snack here, the cafe is ridiculously slow with long queues in the courtyard no matter what the weather. Really needs sorting out as it spoils the visit.

The parkland is lovely, but I do wish whoever it was today that let their big dog poo on the path had picked up after their animal. It is disgusting, as it is that dogs are let run free in the woodland areas that children are encouraged to explore. Picking poo out of treads on children’s shoes is a vile job.
On to the cafe. We have visited Nostell most weeks since we were able to after lockdown, and quite honestly the cafe is the slowest place on earth to get served. Today, there were 5 people in front of us. It took 25 minutes to get coffees. Why? There seems to be enough staff, but they move so slowly and the system isn’t designed for efficient service. Spark up, please. And whoever is in charge, just stand back and see what is(n’t) happening.

Nostell Priory is one of the National Trust's prized possessions, containing some fine pieces. It was built with the wealth of the Winn family from their textile business. Work began in 1733, in the Palladian style. it owes its present appearance and contents largely to the work of the 5th Baronet, who lived here from 1765-85. His extravagance led him to purchase items from far and wide, and to employ leading designers and craftsmen, such as James Paine , Robert Adam and Thomas Chippendale. But with Rowland Winn’s untimely death in 1785, work stopped, and the house has remained much as it was then, with some work incomplete. Things to look out for are; the Doll's House, made in the 1730s, a rare wooden clock by Harrison, the décor in the staterooms, a splendid Chippendale desk and a set of metamorphic steps, and some fine painting by Hogarth, Kauffman, Brueghel and a copy of Holbein's picture of Sir Thomas More and family; all contain strong messages. It is also worth setting aside some time to walk in the extensive grounds. Include a visit to the parish church, too, which has some unusual 16th century Swiss glass.

Excellent house and estate parkland. Friendly staff, awful sandwiches. The use of gluten free bread was not obvious from the front of the package. Dry and tasteless.

Courtyard cafe was nice, although a limited menu. Shop and book store were good. Plenty of parking. The house is really good and the guides are wonderful. Not much in the gardens, but it is mid October although there were loads of giant pumpkins in the veggie patch. Walks around the lake and the pleasure grounds are a must.

Someone recommended this place to me a while ago. Finally got around to visiting and so glad we did. It seemed to me a magical place. The house is stunning, one of the most fascinating and beautiful places I've ever been. I found myself amazed by the atmosphere and the beauty. The gardens are peaceful and quiet. We sat for a while in the formal gardens, walked for a while in the wooded areas on the estate, and sat by one of the lakes on a beautiful autumn afternoon. We didn't see it all in the half day we were there but will definitely be back. It isn't cheap but it's well worth the cost to go in.Theres a pleasant courtyard cafe on site , for coffee or a light lunch/cake. It is truly beautiful, and a very special place full of the magic of a bygone age.

Nostell Priory is a National Trust (NT) property, with a large car park with quite a walk to the house, through some lovely park land. There is a shuttle bus available for anyone with mobility issues. We went straight to the Courtyard Cafe,as we arrived at lunchtime. Typical NT food (all their properties now have the same menu) but freshly made sandwiches and pleasant, helpful staff. Due to Covid restrictions, the house is not completely open but they have devised a good one-way system around the house. The gardens were also nice although in the kitchen garden there was a lot of food items just rotting on the stalks, which was not nice to see - why they were not using the produce in the cafe, I suppose was down to the reduced menu. A pity that they did not make it available to their volunteers or visitors.

We visited this property en route to the North East and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Definitely worth putting this in your visit list if you are in the area.

Beautiful and stunning scenery. Great for dog walking.
Children will love the vast expanses of parks and gardens and play areas.
Stunning house and interesting history with the connection of Time .
Beautiful bespoke chippendale furniture unique to the house.
Great car parking facilities
Friendly and informative staff, especially in the house a lady called Ann was most informative about its history.
The only negative was a half hour wait at 11.30 am queuing to get a coffee from the only cafe.
At 2pm the que for lunch still very long, about an hour wait as cafe only serving one person at a time at till.
This issue needs addressing as l am happy to wait a while but seriously this que was long and if weather had been wet then queuing for a long time would be even more frustrating.
The management of cafe need to reassess their plans for serving customers in a more prompt and efficient manner.
But overall I would visit again as a gorgeous setting in beautiful scenery.
Next time I will fetch a picnic and drinks to avoid the slow cafe queuing.
