We came twice in order to see all of the Garden. Woodland walk was wonderful on a sunny day. Water Lillies were out in full on our second visit. We hope to come back.

Gardens are beutiful and a lovely walk, with plenty of areas to explore.
The Coach House Tea Room.
A real disappointment, staff not intrested and lack any customer service.
The scones which at other NT sites are good, were hard and dry, tasted they had been left out for a long period of time , very disappointing.

Great gardens very picturesque! Great colours and variations of interesting plants!
My only criticism is I arrived a 3pm for 5pm closing and was still charged the full price!

Beautiful gardens. Took the dog who was made welcome. We just caught the end of rhododendrums flowering. I managed to get round the main ponds on my little electric buggy, I'll borrow one of theirs next time as it will enable me to see more of the gardens on the rougher tracks. We ate in the cafe, but were disappointed. More like a canteen than a cafe. I had barley risotto that was a bit gloopy, he had a Cornish pasty which was dry. Not cheap and you were expected to get your own cutlery, drinks and clear your table. Also, the menu was on a board by the front door, so Alan had to read it and then try to remember everything when he came back to report to me!

I had heard great reviews of this place, over many years so finally,as we had a beautiful sunny day, we took a picnic and made our way to Sheffield Park and Gardens.
As we arrived at the Gardens, don’t forget that a short distance away is the nearby Bluebell Railway, which runs from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead but more of that later.
So the Car Park is free, but if you are not a national trust member, the price could be quite high, but for what you are going to see inside, well for me ,I thought the price was well worth it.
The staff were pleased to help at the entrance, and were given a map of the grounds, and we began our adventure, as the map shows ,there are no particular routes so take it as you please, so we walked pass the one of many lakes, before taking a few pictures, it won’t disappoint you as you can see but my pictures below Stunning!!.
We meandered, crisscrossing bridges taking in the wonderful scenery of the beautiful surroundings before making our way up to the cricket pitch which is famous for Capability Brown, there is picture below which tells you about the history of the cricket pitch so have a read.
We stopped to have our picnic, before descending through the wooded trail, back to one of the lakes, before making our way back to the entrance, there is a gift shop comfort break facility and cafe but that is outside of the park and gardens.
So as I mentioned earlier on ,if you remember hopefully you did, not that far away is the Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park, so on leaving the gardens we popped in, well where do I start, at the beginning no doubt, as you enter the grand station building, cast your mind back how this would have been in olden times, see my pictures to put it in to context.
We were very lucky when we visited as the last service of the day was departing for East Grinstead, as the train departed we then visited the lovely museum which closes at 4 and engine shed so make sure you in there so not to be disappointed so much train memorabilia,
The Bluebell Railway will definitely be a place I will return to in the next few months so watch this space.
So in Summary, these two wonderful places make up a wonderful day to visit, so go PARK yourself in these stunning Gardens, or let of some STEAM on this beautiful Railway, I did and enjoyed it immensely.

Extensive park and wood land walks with a number of beautiful large lakes. Probably best visited in spring for the rhodendrons and azaleas or in autumn for the changing colours of the trees as its not a flowery garden.
We spent around 2 hours walking all the various paths and then undertook the 3 mile well signed walk alongside the river and around the fields, opposite the park. This is owned by the estate but free to visit and the car park is also free.
Nice NT cafe in the converted coach house a 5 min walk from the entrance. There is also a cabin for sandwiches / snacks in the park and another for ice cream.
The original house has now been converted into apartments so sadly can't be visited.

Met up with friends here for lunch and a walk round the garden. Very popular place and car park very busy.Plenty of space to eat in the well-designed Coach house cafe, even for dogs who are catered for. which was ideal for our friends who brought their dog with them. I had a Cornish pasty and flat white-pasty just warm but tasty. My wife had scone ,butter cream & jam and a flat white. too. I had another coffee and a sausage roll later at the Shant .The garden was very well maintained and the atmosphere was relaxed Great views of the lake and ponds-very picturesque .We were time limited as could have easily have stayed longer

A pleasant winter walk round park with very good photo opportunities across lakes. We went on a rather chilly day but were able to take a dog and had a great time

National Trust property not to far from London, free parking for NT members.
Very beautiful, massive gardens. Unfortunately the house is not part of the visit.
Cafe onsite.
Would recommend, would like to visit again as the seasons change.

Visited Sheffield Park for the first time. The gardens were amazing and the portfolio of trees were incredible. We even found ourself a lovely little olive tree, which was the absolute highlight of our day.
As a non national trust member I was greeted and treated like part of the family still on arrival which was lovely.
Truly a revitalising experience and will be visiting again for sure with family.
I didn’t get to go in the cafe but the food looked great too.

Until a few years ago, dogs were not allowed in the garden at all, and there are many of our visitors who do not want to see dogs in the garden. We decided to introduce the half-day option to try and provide a compromise between those who want to bring their dogs and those who prefer a dog-free environment. We do welcome dogs on the parkland and off-lead in East Park as well as in the garden room of the tearoom at all times of the day. We are always reviewing our arrangements, and the National Trust as a whole are looking at how we welcome dogs to our places to try and provide a more uniform policy that will be easier to understand for our visitors. We appreciate your feedback, and this will all go towards helping us form future policies. Jo Grocott, Visitor Experience Manager.

I’m thinking of traveling to Sheffield park on good Friday by public transport from Brighton
But a little confused as I can get to Lewes for £5.50 return
But to go to uckfield it’s £30
Can someone tell me the easiest & cheapest option please

Hello there. It's not an easy place to get to on public transport and could be more hassle than it's worth. Check the National Trust/Sheffield Park Gardens own website for their directions.
You can go from Lewes to Uckfield on the train but it's 8 miles to Sheffield Park from there. A fun route would be to take the train to East Grinstead and then the steam train on the Bluebell Railway which stops at Sheffield Park - about 15 mins walk to the gardens. The trains are not very frequent though. Check the Bluebell Railway website.

Whereabouts is ‘East Park’
Canadian traces are at Wakehurst Place!

It was in relation to someone who praised the ‘East Park’ at Sheffield Park, mentioned Canadian traces and eulogised about the helpful teenage restaurant staff - clearly deluded as Wakehurst housed a Canadian contingent in WWII.
Sheffield Park restaurant boasts teenagers with appalling customer skills and no hot food before noon.

Is their lots of public toilets around the park
And is their plenty of benches to rest on ?
