A lovely walk, with great views across Langstone Harbour. Yesterday, at low tide, there were hundreds of Brent Geese happily gorging on the mud. However, at present the northern section of the Trail from the small car park off Victoria Road (at the rear of the Esso Garage on the A3023) is CLOSED. There are no warning signs at the southern end of the Trail. As a non-resident of Hayling - I came over from Portsmouth on the Ferry - how was I to know? The main road is very busy and the pavement changes from one side to the other, so not, in my opinion a safe alternative. I had to cross the road twice to catch the No 31 bus to Havant. The Trail is due to reopen on 1st February 2025, when once again I plan to walk from Southsea to Emsworth to enjoy the lovely views of the Solent from Hayling beach and the tranquility and beauty of the Billy Trail.

If you enjoy a walk, or cycle ride, this is a great thing to do on Hayling Island. We caught a bus to ‘the bridge’ and walked back towards south of the island. It’s very well signposted with lots of seating along the way. The walk partly runs along the coast- we took the detour to the Oyster Beds, and is partly through woods. As it is along what was once a railroad the pathway is wide and well tended. Thoroughly enjoyable walk, with information points about the wildlife / history of the place. We walked one way along trail at a leisurely pace and it took about an hour n quarter.

Walked from Hayling Station (Theatre) to Langstone Bridge. Good walk about 3 miles long, however this is also a cycle way. We were constantly being knocked into by cyclists coming up from behind us. We could not hear them and all the riders could do was shout at us for walking in front of them. They should have bells on there bikes but of course they didnt. The walk was good the cyclists not so good.

We finally managed to cycle this path with our 6 year old. It’s lovely and flat with a multitude of places to stop. The views are beautiful. In my opinion it’s a perfect Summer holiday outing costing a little more than an icecream and the fuel to get us to the start. Highly recommended.

The trail is the disused railway track bed so is reasonably flat, ideal for walking and cycling. There is plenty to see, from the oyster beds to a restored railway signal and views across the estuary to Portsmouth. It does get busy, an early evening stroll is the best time.
If you venture from the main trail you will find a, near enough deserted, narrow path that follows the shore line giving superb views over the estuary. Take a camera, you will get some great pictures.

WE looked long and hard for the Billy trail and our google maps appeared to take us the long way around after parking on the front. It wasnt quite as exciting as it sounded but there were some very nice view pints both forested and out to the waters edge

A lovely walk by the coast, with clear views of the oyster beds, the Solent and Portsmouth. We walked it on a very wet day, so the path was rather flooded, but in dryer times it would be fine. There's a food van half way along the linear route.

We parked by the station theatre, and walked the path up to the bridge which joins the island to the mainland. The car park is free but has limited spaces.
The first part of the walk is through trees so provides a lot of shade on sunnier days. The second part of more open, with shady patches.
Lovely views across to Portsmouth. There is a snack van towards the end of the path.
No toilet facilities along the walk.

I think you mean Sinah Warren on Hayling Island..
If yes, it is very easy as you take the road from Sinah Warren towards West Town. The Hayling Billy trail starts at the old train station which is now HIADS (Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Sociiety) a theatre venue.
Hope this helps.

Are there height restrictions on the car park opposite the petrol station at the top of the island car park, ie if carrying bikes on the roof will I be able to park there?
Skrevet 29. juni 2020
Hi, where is the start of the trail, is it somewhere obvious please?! We are going to Hayling Island's Sinah Warren in December and it looks like a nice walk. Thanks. Anne

As you go over Langston bridge onto the Island Petrol station on left and small car park behind trees about 20 yards right.Sign post at top end of car park,Parking at Station Theatre at bottom end if you want to do it in reverse which probably be best for your visit

Hi. We're staying in Havant this week . How far is it to cycle from there along Billy trail to end and return? Also is it safe to cross on road bridge to hayling island? Thanks
Skrevet 19. april 2019
Its about 4 miles long to South Hayling, if you turn left at the Station theatre there is the West Town pub for food and refuel before return ...its an easy car free cycle... or if you go straight on from Station theatre, its only 300 meters to the sea and another pub, the Inn on the Beach....where you can enjoy a beautiful beach before cycling back... hope that answers your question

we are camping on manor road. how do we pick up billys trail please ?
Skrevet 29. august 2018
Gill - manor road is the A3023 into Hayling Island (I’m guessing your campsite will be towards the south end of the island ) Car parks for the Billy trail can be found just off the A3023 as you come onto the island ( at the north end of the island ) I hope this helps.
