Absolutely amazing experience! If you want to learn about Great Yarmouth this is the place. The history of herrings and the Rows. Incredible.

Look. It’s free entry with a suggested donation so it’s not going to be perfect.
We found it very interesting walking round and reading all that there is to learn about the history and happenings. It’s very informative. The audio that plays when you stand under certain areas is great too!
The issue we found is the interactive sections or press me sections simply didn’t work.
The blue buttons - most didn’t work
The interactive display- some parts missing
The science part- just doesn’t work or broken on the most part
It would easily be a 5* if they made sure all the bits and bobs working. But simply at the minute it is bang average.

Hello. I think you might be reviewing the wrong museum here - there are military tanks in your photographs, we don't have any of those - just boats! It looks like you might be trying to review the Discovery Museum in Newcastle? We don't have any blue buttons on our interactives either (all our buttons are red) or a Science part in our museum - we're the museum of Great Yarmouth life.
If you could check that you are reviewing the correct museum that would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Philip.

This was a small museum, mainly about the history of herring fishing in Great Yarmouth. we visited with our grand-children (9 and 8 yrs) who both really enjoyed it as it was so 'child-friendly'. Cafe was great too!

I thought this was a wonderful and fascinating museum! It has been put together with care and insight- and what a place to have a museum in. The staff were lovely and helpful. All in all a perfect place to visit. Lots of interactive stuff for children, too.

Time and Tide Museum seem to have lost their way a little. What they need is an outsider to tell them all the small things that don’t work because the people running it can’t see the problems. It looks like to me that once everything was ok but over time its deteriorated and not maintained. I’ve no doubt that the owners will disagree with me but for £7 entrance fee there are around 10 faults that spoiled it for me. If they kept up the maintenance and all exhibits working then its worth 5 stars, but not at the moment. I will add the that the staff on the desk were very pleasant and helpful.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear that you experienced some faults with our exhibits during your visit. We'd like to take you up on your offer of an outsider telling us about the small things that didn't work whilst your visit is still fresh in your memory so that we can rectify them for future visitors. If you are able to e-mail yarmouth.museums@norfolk.gov.uk with your feedback, we'll look into putting things right.
With upwards of 50,000 visitors a year and almost 1,000,000 visitors since we opened in 2004, it can be quite tricky keeping on top of repairs so we really do appreciate it when our visitors let us know if something isn't working as expected or looks tired with a set of fresh eyes.
Many Thanks.
Philip

Amazing range of subjects from prehistoric to modern. Very interesting seeing the town through the ages. There is so much to see that it takes at least two hours to see it all.

What a great museum - the somewhat underwhelming frontage should not put you off !! This is a very well presented museum, very accessible and with lots of interesting displays. We spent a very happy 3 hours here.
Currently the website says to book in advance - a hang over from Covid. Don’t let that put you off as We just turned up & went in without any problem .
Highly recommended - the staff were lovely too
I would also give a shout - out to The Hope Coffee Company, currently running the cafe, for their great coffee, cakes and service

Wide ranging and well presented. Covers when the North Sea did not exist to when the town was the biggest herring port in the world. Useful lift to help you get around. Gift shop, toilets and cafe. Really very interesting, with excellent descriptions of the exhibits. Needed longer but car park (almost opposite) ticket was running out. A real gem, and well worth visiting. So much to take in and appreciate.

Superb 2 hours spent here, and would loved to have stayed longer had it not been for the time being up on our parking ticket. Fantastic place, loads to see and do, even our teens loved it and interacted by completing the jigsaws, playing the Roman game and taking daft photos with the displays - first time they've engaged with anything other than their phones in months!
I loved all the displays, everything was well done, the staff were lovely and friendly and the gift shop had some great stuff, especially books. Please support this amazing museum if here as it is a hidden gem, and not just a wet weather thing to do. Probably one of the highlights of our holiday.

I have impaired mobility and visited Tim & Tide in early October 2021. There is in fact a lift tucked away on the exit side of the current one-way visitor route which I would guess is not intended for visitors. However, it was very quiet on the day we were there, and spotting my walking stick the young man taking admission offered me its use to get upstairs, as did later a couple of staff preparing an exhibition on the first floor in the downward direction. I actually chose the steps which I did not find too taxing. I thought the staff were very considerate, and I would guess that if the museum is not too busy they might extend the same courtesies to other people who are less in denial of their disabilitities than me.

Hi When it states " museum pass holders free" does that mean any museum volunteers or just Time and Tide museum workers.I volunteer for a maritime museum in Harwich and wondered if I qualify for a freebie ?

HI - many thanks for your enquiry.
Museums pass relates to the Norfolk Museums Service membership pass which is a yearly pass bought by visitors and allows unlimited entry to the 10 museums of NMS.
Free entry is only valid for volunteers working at Norfolk Museums Service sites.
We do hope that this answers your query - please contact our reception team in case of further query.

£6.
They offer a 5% discount for students and for people over 60. Unfortunately I was only 59 and a half and I didn't want to wait 6 months.

I don’t so, I think it’s mainly guide dogs. But you might be best to email and check!

Is there a car park and is it free?
timet123
Great Yarmouth, UK1 bidrag
Hi there,
I am afraid that we do not have our own car park.
There is however an inexpensive pay & display car park just opposite the Museum on Blackfriars’ Road.
In addition many of the streets that surround the Museum are not controlled parking zones.

Hello and many thanks for your enquiry.
Unfortunately we do not allow dogs into the museum buildings - we have a guide dogs only policy.
Dogs are allowed into the courtyard area in front of the café only and must be on a lead and accompanied at all times.
We hope that this answers your query - please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.
