Went on board with my Grandson and daughter today 22/09/2022, for the first time in a few years AND IT'S STILL FREE.
This has got to be the most interesting and informative tourist attraction in Great Yarmouth AND IT'S FREE. There's something for everybody. My three-year-old grandson was delighted with the hands-on experience that the visit gave him, lots of steps to climb, wheels to turn, ropes to pull, whistles to blow, bells to ring and the fantastic crew ensured we were all informed in a very interesting way about the history of Lydia and the huge significance of herring fishing to Great Yarmouth's past.
The museum area in the hold of the ship is crammed with artifacts and hundreds of photos, information and movies about the fishing industry and visiting the very "cosy" crew quarters makes you aware how tough life must have been for those fishermen.
Thanks so much to all involved in helping to preserve this essential part of Norfolk's heritage. Absolutely brilliant and did I mention its FREE.

We climbed on board for a tour of this beautiful vessel. Greeted by friendly volunteers straight away we stepped on board. A volunteer gave us a very informative tour around the whole of the Steam drifter and it’s wonderful history. He was happy to answer any questions we had and allowed my children to ring the bell and turn the wheel, plenty of great photo opportunities. As a family we thoroughly enjoyed this visit and would definitely recommend it. To be able to enjoy a full tour and this fantastic experience you need to be able to climb up and down ladders. It’s well worth a visit.

Really, and unexpectedly, very good! Staffed (or should that be ‘crewed’) by volunteers who really know their stuff. Plus it’s totally free! Please do give a decent donation. Husband thoroughly enjoyed it as would anyone with an interest in mechanics and/or the sea. Not suitable for those with mobility problems though (like me) as there are very steep steps down into the ship - more like ladders.

I was completely impressed with this free and amazing attraction in Great Yarmouth. The boat is amazing and staff are very helpful keen and give out lots of information( e.g how the engine works and the history of the boat) . The drifter is in great shape and for me it was a unique experience going up and down narrow ladders and rooms. Worth a visit if you are in Great Yarmouth. River views from the drifter are great as well

The last surviving steam drifter of the Great Yarmouth based Herring fishing fleet. She operated between 1930 and 1942 not a very large ship but is well maintained. Parking can be an issue to visit the boat

We came upon this wonderful only surfing steam herring drifter in Europe by chance this afternoon walking along South Quay. Noticed that it had closed to visitors for the day but a very kind volunteer popped up and invited us aboard for an hour tour. This boat has an amazing story to tell from being built in 1930 until today. It has been beautifully restored and is full of lots to see and understand the history of the herring industry in the East of England.

What an interesting hour spent on board discovering how this worked and what it did. Very enthusiastic volunteers on board to explain everything and point out things of interest. Thoroughly recommend.
