This review is for the condition of the site as a whole and only rated three because the paths are very muddy and slippery. Could do with some proper surfaced paths linking the monuments to make them more accessible. Also it's very lacking information. Some of the wooden display boards were empty and disintegrating. There was no information at all at the "Writ in Water" installation so had to look it up online. Really very poor management by the National Trust here. It's a shame as it's a lovely area with several important and historic sites to explore.

Parking at Runnymede is cheap for a walk in the countryside (cafe for parking payment if machine nor working), go and see the JFK memorial (paved area can be slippy) the writ in water is a great piece of art, jurors individual chair designs are incredible, well worth a visit

We parked in the public carpark at the pleasure gardens and walked back along the river to the National Trust cafe then from there followed the walks to the JFK memorial, American Bar memorial, the water feature (forgotten its name) then trekked up through the woods -it’s a steep climb to the airforce memorial which is simply stunning. Then back down to the carpark and a little return trip on a boat. A great day out!

What started out as a thoroughly enjoyable visit was spoilt by my partner falling headlong, after stepping into one of the many foot-sized potholes that cover the meadow. Fortunately, she was only shaken by the fall and has no lasting injuries. There are no purpose built pathways to the various exhibits on this site, only well trodden grassed trackways. The site does not cater for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Take extra care, if you are a little unsteady on your feet, while walking across the meadow. A great site spoiled by the lack of safe accessibility. For such a great historical site, I would have expected better accessibility.

We are sorry to hear about your partner's fall during your visit - we hope she is ok. As part of the Runnymede Explored project, we are investing in pathways to improve access to the site, making it more accessible for everyone.

Historic Runnymede is a bucket list visit
Manga Carta memorial and JFK memorials were probably in need of a little cleaning if I’m honest so a little disappointed
The lack of clear signposting and / or paper maps was also little disappointing
The jurors is clearly visible and well maintained
Was I glad of seeing the historic sites…Yes
Could they be maintained better and give better information….Yes
Tea room not open during week, which was also disappointing and somewhat surprising
Still worth visit and took about hour, could have done longer walk as plenty around

Runnymede in short is a combination of history and nature put in a blender with monuments, memorials flavour added on top, presented in an elegant English countryside setting. This lovely meadow/woodland is as historic as it can get. There is a huge WWI & II Airforce memorial, JFK Memorial, centuries old Yew tree, ancient monastery, modern open air artworks and in the centre of it all is the sealing of Magna Carta that set the tone for later governments to make speeches about.

The whole area is managed by the trustworthy National Trust that also look after the mighty Stonehenge and of course the river Thames runs through it.

Here you will find real history coupled with a good stroll. The park is very large, but it is not difficult to navigate around the various monuments that are dotted about. Runnymede is famous as the site of the sealing of Magna Carta, but today it's home to a collection of memorials to the struggle for liberty. As well as the monument to Magna Carta, you can visit memorials to JFK and the Allied Air Forces of the Second World War.
I particularly liked the Jurors, an artwork created by Hew Locke to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta taking the form of twelve different and ornately carved bronze chairs.
The Tea room is closed due to Covid. but the carpark is still open to visitors.

Historically, this is a very important place. Today, it’s a nice place to stop, have a walk along the Thames, visit a little bit of the U.S.A, check out some amazing art installations, and find our why the Magna Cartr is such an important document around the world. Check out the Jorors by Hew Lock, there’s a leaflet with information about the art installation near the car park pay points. Writ in Water by Mark Wallinger is definitely worth the walk, an oasis of calm and reflection (you will have to visit to get the reference!) The JFK memorial is a little bit of America. The Magna Carta memorial is let down by the steps leading up to it, they are subsiding on one side and it makes the memorial look crooked. Picnic tables are available and there are marked walks of different lengths marked out. Worth a visit.

Allow 90 minutes at least to walk between all the memorials. The climb up to the Air Forces memorial building is steep but well worth it. The views are brilliant.
Unfortunately the NT tearoom near the river was closed, but the toilets were open. Parking by the river was easy and convenient.
