We visited in December with our Grandson to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
A great little playhouse with great organisation and awareness of the Covid-19 situation.
The show itself was great entertaining and funny and well worth the money. We will hopefully be back soon to watch another show.

The production was brilliant. However the venue is a complete rip off

£2.90 for a small packet of smarties which incidentally was the only confectionery they had. Same packet £1.00 in all supermarkets
£3.90 for 3 packets of Seabrook crisps which can be purchased 6 for £1.00 in all supermarkets

Bags searched at door for and one ‘sneaking in’ their own sweets. Any found are confiscated

They need to get their ACT together if they want people to attend and spend

We have been to this theatre a couple of times and can not fault it. The whole venue is amazing, it is always pristine and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
We currently attended for the Christmas panto and had a fantastic time, the show was brillaint and full of laughter for the whole family. Great cast, sparkling costumes and amazing set.
We will definitely be back soon!

We went to see The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. When we arrived, there was a man and woman security, checking bags outside the door. There was only one person there, having a large backpack checked. Why you need to take a large backpack to a concert is beyond me. The man was checking the backpack. We therefore expected the woman, who was called Kate, to check my wife's handbag, then we could get inside. She could see me standing there with my walking stick and chose to ignore us entirely until around twenty people had turned up and formed a queue behind backpack man. She then piped up and told us to go to the back of the queue. She let the man check all the bags, whilst she stood there like a spare part. What was her use and why are we paying our money towards her unnecessary wages. I reiterate that there was no queue, only backpack man, when we arrived and as there was one security person at each side of the doors, we naturally presumed that they would be both checking people in. At no point did Kate say that we had to queue behind backpack man, until such times as a large queue had formed. Not the best start and it doesn't get any better.

We enjoyed the first half of the performance, though by the interval, my rump was becoming numb, because of the hard seats. I would have brought my orthopedic cushion, which I use at most venues but for the fact that at the Playhouse, you need written permission from Big Brother. At the start of the second half, as the orchestra had just taken their seats, I wanted to take a photograph of them on stage, before they started performing, to remember them by. I would point out that I wouldn't dream of doing so while they were performing, nor of taking any video, which would effectively be stealing their intellectual property. Before I had raised my phone, the Schutzstaffel or thought police, appeared from the back and told me to stop filming. I told her that I was not recording and that I simply wanted one photo, before they started performing. She said, in the most officious manner possible, that it was policy that no filming was allowed. I kept looking round to see where the rest of the film crew had disappeared to.

The remainder of the performance was marred by the thought police charging up and down the isle, as phones lit up. She stood there flashing a torch at people and gesticulating wildly. I hasten to say that at the end of the performance, not a dickey bird was said, when half the audience started taking pictures. Double Standards! Whilst most of the hard working theatres, have struggled through the pandemic closures and are now really glad to have audiences back; not so with the Playhouse. There attitude says that they don't really give a stuff. You can tell that it is run by the public purse and doesn't have to rely on external funding. It is no skin off their nose if someone takes a photo. Is it therefore the performers or the promoters who are protesting because if it is them that are photo shy, it leads me to be equally as shy, when it comes to buying their merchandise and tickets for future performances. I noted after my last review, that they said, to avoid excessive charges with Ticketmaster, save money and book direct with the box office. We tried ringing several times and got no reply. We drove across to Whitley Bay, only to find the whole place closed. So much to that idea. Unfortunately we have to come back here again shortly and I cannot say that I am looking forward to it. You can rest assured however, that we will not be going here again, regardless of who is on and not even if we were given free tickets and £5,000 to spend.

Bought several more shows at the same time. Turned up lastnight on the day date and time. Sept 20th 2021.19.30 hrs printed o the tickets... Playhouse is locked. Talking with many other ticket holders, all expecting a concert. Some having had 2 previous concerts posponed. So annoying after prior online webpage checks for Covid that didnt show any posponement at about 18.00 hrs.Not even a note on the door. Concert is posponed till 26th Oct 2022.

Rang accessible line to book tickets and received a call back almost immediately. Wheelchair user and visited with my carer to see A Country Night in Nashville on Friday 13th March. Brilliant friendly cheery staff who were helpful to everyone, showing to seats and advising on timings etc. Treated us with respect and caring throughout the evening and the stage was visible from all seats. Fantastic atmosphere in a comfy venue. Non and alcoholic drinks available with ice cream during the interval. Great night out, car park next door, superb act. What more could you want???

The theatre is much better than it used to be, since being spruced up. However, whilst you have a decent view, little thought has been given to customer comfort, as the seats are rock hard and some have limited leg room, which is not mentioned when booking. It is better suited to theatrical performances as it doesn't posess the best acoustic for musical events.

Booking used to be simple before the introduction of an unnecessary middle man (@ticketmaster.) This has resulted in moderate ticket prices, now being in excess of £10 extra, in some cases, which is a big put off for many performances. When I booked, I couldn't find an option to choose the seats, that I specifically wanted online. I therefore had to ring Ticketmaster, which cost me a further £12 in phone calls.

We went to see the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, in their 50th year. We were sat at the back of the theatre, whilst everyone else appeared to be crammed like sardines, in the centre front third of the auditorium. This left both sides and the remaining two thirds to the rear, completely empty. I reckon of the 638 seats available, at least 450 were empty. We have followed the orchestra for many years and as usual, they gave an excellent performance, to what must have been one of their worst audience attendancies. I don't put the poor attendance down to the orchestra but more to the ridiculous, overpriced booking system that is now in place.

I really felt for the hard working, superbly professional musicians. Hopefully next time they come to the North East, they will go to one of the more accommodating venues, such as The Gala, Sage 2 or The Customs House.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate all of your comments. To avoid Ticketmaster booking fees, our customers are encouraged to book directly with us at box office. Pasadena Roof Orchestra had a great night with us, so we are sorry you felt disappointed on their behalf.
