EXCEPTIONAL VISIT
sep. 2021
I made a visit to this excellent facility to relive the days when I was stationed there in the early 80's. What a splendid museum that is packed with numerous facts and some very explanatory displays. The Museum was immaculate in every respect and I can't praise the people behind the development and the functioning of this very informative display. I was especially impressed with Lynette and Tom who were both well informed and who provided us with a very good understanding of the background as to how the project came about and the varying stages of it's progress. Thank you both from my family and myself.
I would highly recommend a visit to this Museum to learn of the history of Radar and it's usefulness during WWII if you can make it.

Thank you so much for your review and your comments following your visit. Firstly, my apologies for taking o long to reply. We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your time at the museum and your reminiscing about your time at Bawdsey. The project has been funded by the National Lottery as well as Historic England and a number of other supporters. The project though is made by the volunteers whose energy and drive is what has resulted in what you and your family saw on your visit. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and your recommendation, it is much appreciated by us all. Lynette for Bawdsey Radar

Beautifully restored transmitter block, good parking and space to run around + picnic tables. Cor-Ten steel enthusiasts will love the lavatory block!
Well made and engaging films which explain the development of RADAR and its use in WW2. Well displayed exhibits and the friendliest and most enthusiastic staff and volunteers. Goos activities for children. Small shop with interesting and nice goods.
This fascinating museum is a gem.

A friendly and fascinating museum
jul. 2021
We have sailed past Bawdsey Manor many times, so as we were in the area on a dry land break, we decided to visit the museum.

It was really fascinating and we learned a lot about how important this place was during WW2 and the Cold War.

Special thanks to guide Tom Cox who gave the visit a memorable touch with his tour of the features out in the grounds as well as his really interesting input during the exhibits’ tour.

Little Gem
okt. 2020 • Par
We knew some of Bawdsey’s place in the history books but not in any great detail & visiting this little gem certainly filled in the gaps!!
So that they can still welcome visitors, they have a system whereby a ‘bubble’ of up to 6 from the same family has the whole place to themselves for just under an hour, every cloud and all that, & it was one of the most interesting hours we have spent!! Such a warm welcome, such knowledgeable & friendly volunteers and so many interesting displays all made for a really enjoyable visit.
It all felt incredibly safe & clean and we can’t wait to go back when they reopen next Spring (it closes for Winter at the end of October) & find out more ☺️

Dear Kellyb, Thank you so much for your review and your encouragement in these odd times. We are so pleased to get the museum open thanks to the incredible volunteer team here and welcome emergency funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, SHARE Museums East and East Suffolk Council. I will pass your comments along to the team today - things do feel different, and your words will be such an encouragement. We'll see you next year! Thank you, Lynette for Bawdsey Radar.

Keep Calm and go learn about Radar!
okt. 2020
Spine-tingle moment. Standing in the building where the technology was developed that meant victory in the Battle of Britain and, by extension, in WWII!

Engagingly designed and interpreted exhibits, accompanied by a warm welcome from the front of house team and impeccable Covid Secure measures.

Seriously, treat yourselves.

Great day out
aug. 2019
We had a really interesting morning at the Radar museum. Volunteers were friendly and informative. Quite an eye openers.
Good displays and presentations. Hands on too. Refrehments available. Book stall. If fine take a picnic to eat outside on the interesting tables. Move on to a walk from Bawdsey quay along the beach with great views of the manor or take the ferry across to Old felixstowe for fish and chips. Great day out.

Brilliant for kids!!
okt. 2019 • Familie
My family and I found the signs for this gem by accident. What luck?! I do find the history of WW2 museums interesting but with three kids of 9, 7 and 4, I’m usually in a minority. This was totally different though. From the atmospheric entrance to the sounds of fighters flying overhead to the friendly greeting at the desk where the children got their fun worksheets and lab coats with ‘boffin’ specs, we were all hooked. The displays were well designed and all low enough for them to see clearly. The interactive exhibits really helped them understand RADAR and the video shows were clear.

Special mention has to go to John Brooking who showed us around, and the other inspiring volunteers who clearly love this place. I really hope their aim of expanding to the receiver block is realised.

The only issue is now my kids have decided they will solve the ‘death ray’ problem to shoot sheep... :)

Thank you so much for taking time to leave such a thoughtful review. It is so encouraging for us here at Bawdsey to hear about your thoughts and experiences. Access is really important to us so I'm especially glad you found the exhibition, the story and even the height of information accessible - a long time was spent in the testing phase! As a gift aid organisation, your admission ticket os valid for 12 months and although we're closed now till next April, your ticket is valid till next October 2020 so perhaps we'll see you again. I will pass along your thanks to all the volunteers and thank you again for letting us know your thoughts. Good luck with the 'death ray' issue - we'll be thinking of you.....! Lynette

Interesting Museum about the start of Radar
sep. 2019 • Par
I was stationed here nearly 50 years ago so I was very interested in history of how they played such a hugh part in the Battle of Britain. Only 1 of the blocks have been restored which is the Transmitting Block so I was slightly disappointed because I worked in the Receiving Block as Radar Operator but it was very interesting seeing how the Radar was developed. They are hoping to get more funds to renovate the other block in the future. The only one criticism is that because we went by boat from Felixstowe we had to walk over a mile because there are no buses! So the best way to get there is by car. Well worth the walk though.

Dear Jennie, Thank you so much for visiting, for your review and your memories. The receiver block sits within the area of the estate where PGL run amazing outward bound holidays for children so for now it's just the Transmitter Block that's restored and open. It is a pretty walk up form the quay - we would love a bus though! Thank you again for visiting, and your review, much appreciated. Lynette

Awesome little museum
aug. 2019 • Familie
From being greeted at the door to entering to the sound of spitfires overhead and Winston Churchill’s voice, nothing has been left out. The amount of attention to detail and the enthusiasm of the staff/ volunteers was contagious. There are lots of hands on things for children to do and if you show them instead of running through you can while away a very interesting time here.
It is a bit out in the sticks (you can drive) but we took the ferry from Felixstowe and walked. About a mile but very scenic.
I also needed the toilet on arrival and (this sounds mad but) what appears to be portaloos outside were some of the nicest public loos I’ve ever been in.
So don’t judge a book by its cover. Radar Museum, sounds dull doesn’t it? But you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Thank you again, Lynette Burgess.
