The house and gardens were lovely, however our experience was dampened by whoever was running the pre loved book shop. Her abrupt attitude put me off from even wanting to look around so I walked straight back out.

Lovely staff at reception, really helpful. Brilliant Christmas trail which the children all loved (age 5-10). Live festive singing outside the house and the open fire going in the main hall, a fab day out today thank you! Oh the Christmas garland in the house is beautiful and worth a visit for.

Had a lovely visit to Cotehele to see the garland.
I would like to thanks the staff for all their hard work in making the garland this year. It was really nice to see it as we thought they were not going to do it this year due to Covid.

Better signposting of car parks - we were sent wrong way walking up round very steep wet hill then in through gardens up very high steps
Only when got to ticket office did we find that there was a shuttle bus between quay car park and house and mill by then too late for us
Had to put handbag and small backpack in lockers whilst others allowed in with larger packs
Cafe was fine
Ticket people brilliant
Shuttle bus driver brilliant

I must admit I was surprised by the previous 3 star review - this place is a hidden gem. The house was fascinating and the extensive gardens are stunning even on a damp late September day. The staff were charming, friendly and knowledgeable. Yes the dining hall is excellent but merely the icing on the cake! Highly recommended.

This house is a rarity - it hasn’t been ravaged by fire or accident and seemingly untouched in the war.

What that leaves is architecture and artefacts preserved from the 1500s onwards.

It’s a rambling set of houses, buildings, barns etc with an amazing glimpse into history.

The gardens and orchards resemble the true working nature of the place rather than neatly trimmed and quoiffed lawns and flower beds which is superb.

In addition there is the working (well it was until 2020 flood damage) mill, which houses both exhibits of the trades carried out for the quay and estate and also some working craftsmen/women.

The quay and buildings house yet more history of the river-bound trades that were carried out here.

You could spend all day here easily.

Visited on a mild September afternoon. We found signage and information difficult to come by. Having our dogs with us we were somewhat confused about where we needed to show our membership cards and where we could go. Electing to split up with one of us looking at the gardens and one walking the dogs was our only option and very frustrating, particularly as most of what was termed garden was actually wild with stretches of meadow. Unless you buy a guidebook your understanding of what you are looking at is poor. Overall we were underwhelmed except for the nice cream tea and local art gallery.

I had previously heard about Cothele but never had the chance to visit until this month.
Lovely volunteers. I walk with a stick and did struggle around the house and grounds in places. However we really enjoyed our visit. The setting is beautiful and the view accross to the railway viaduct over the gardens is stunning. If I lived locally I would visit just for the outside space!
The house was interesting but I would have liked a bit more info. I know it's tricky with Covid but maybe a boards with info.
The cafe had a very limited menu but really friendly staff

Lovely day out. More to do than anticipated. Pleasant walk along stream from quay side car park to water mill. Children spotted pixie doors on trees on the way. Mill was interesting. Blacksmith amongst other workshops. Walked through wood up to house. Beautiful building and interesting. Staff excellent. Gentleman in bedrooms friendly and informative about history of rooms. Involved the children. Lovely gardens. Walked down valley garden to viewing point which was stunning. Definitely recommend

The old mill cafe is gorgeous, lots of vegan options and very reasonably priced. I have walked the grounds of the house and gardens before which I remember being beautiful. I'm yet to go inside the house but I think it's worth a visit.
The staff in the cafe were very friendly and helpful. The quay just down the road is nice too.
