Made this tour from Dingle; clockwise. We were lucky with the nice weather, which made everything look just a little more beautiful and impressive. Moreover, it was fairly quiet. Breathtaking rocky coasts, vast landscapes and lots of sheep. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view, for example the Coumeenoole Beach and the Ceann Sibéal viewing point. Halfway to eat at the Blasket Centre, but that was disappointing. At the end we stopped at the nice Gallarus Oratory and Kilmalkedar Church (impressive ruins). We started at 11am and were back in Dingle around 5pm. Wonderful trip and doable.

As Tina Turner herself would say, you are simply the best. Up Kerry.

If you go to Dingle to enjoy all the charm it has to offer, and you fail to take a drive on Slea Head Drive, you’ve missed one of the world’s best, most beautiful scenic adventures.
Dingle was the market town for the entire Dingle Peninsula. Farmers, fisherman, craftsmen of all sorts brought the wares and produce to Dingle to sell and to purchase supplies, food, and clothing.
A drive out Slea Head is a drive through this sheep herding and fishing area. Beautiful and untouched. The sheer cliffs fighting the North Atlantic are spectacular. There are plenty of places to stop for food, amusement, and sightseeing. A place to hold and feed lambkins.
While your chin is firmly planted on you chest in reaction to the sea view and what remains of a pastoral life perched on the granite cliffs, you’ll arrive at Dun Chaoin (Dunquin). This place is the western most inhabited spot in Europe. But about 70 years ago, that claim was held by the Great Blasket Island, a few miles off the coast. Dun Chaoin served as a landing spot for the island visitors, coming and going when contact with the mainland was needed. Great Blasket was abandoned in 1953 since life for the remaining population, mostly elderly, became to harsh. The story of the island is well documented, but even if you know nothing of its history, it sits out in the ocean, abandoned houses bearing silent witness to a way of life lost save for that recorded in dozens of books.
Just past Dun Chaoin is the Blasket Center, a place to view the island and become acquainted with its history… very moving and well done.
Slea Head Drive follows the coast and each turn of the road bring more and more astonishing vistas. Bring your camera.
A tip:
This is a popular drive for tourists, many of whom are used to driving on the right. Be careful and stay left. Go early. All those tour buses you saw parked on the Dingle waterfront will be loaded up, making the same drive. Get out on the road before 9am, if not you could spend your time on the Drive looking at the rear end of a bus.
For the fit, this is a perfect bike ride.
You’ve never seen anything like it.

Wow, what a lovely glowing review! Thank you for sharing and for allowing other visitors to gain real insight and expectations for their visit. As my father would say to me growing up: You are not good. You are great.

Get a driver, sit back, and enjoy the ride. The views are spectacular, the cliffs are spectacular, the fields are spectacular, the beaches are spectacular. It is well worth the time to enjoy this curvy, narrow, scenic route through the mountains. Stop for pictures or just to stare at the landscape through the entire ride. Shorter than The Ring of Kerry, less crowded, and a better option all around

Absolutely amazing!
Most people prefer the Ring of Kerry to the Slea Head Drive. I say 100% Slea Head Drive!
Lots of viewpoints (tip: save viewpoints marked in your Google Map so you will know in advance where your next stop will be).
You can see stone forts and hold a lamb, if you haven't seen any of those in previous trips to Ireland.
Otherwise head to Caifé na Trá to enjoy a cake, tea and the views.
Do a photo stop at Dunquin Pier (look down to see the depth).
Check out the expo and film at Blasket Center.
Do this absolute amazing hike at the cliffs:
[Tripadvisor wouldn't allow me post the link, but you can do an internet search for the Lub na Cille Dunchaoin walk in the Dingle peninsula to localize it]

Slaaaaayyyy Erika! Caifé na Trá is honestly one of my favourites along the route! The cakes are always so delicious.

A must see part of Ireland. Slea Head drive has incredible scenery, breathtaking views, ruggedness and expansive coastal landscapes with plenty of options for hiking, photography and picnics.

This was one of our favorite activities in Ireland. Truly gorgeous views. Lots of points of interest, but at a minimum, stop at Ventry Beach, the Fahan Beehive huts, Dunquin Pier, and end with a pint at Murphy's Pub (Tigh Ui Mhurchu) in Bellyferriter. If you like pottery, The ride doesn't take very long and is worth the effort.

This is a stunning drive, and in my book, has the edge over the more popular Ring of Kerry. There's some great scenery to be enjoyed, so do it slowly - we kept pulling over to soak in the views or stopping at some of the beaches, historic harbours and cliff viewpoints (incl several Star Wars filming locations en route). We did this over 3 hours at a leisurely pace, before taking the Connor Pass and heading onwards to Doolin.

Yes, yes and YES! Although the Ring of Kerry is stunning (No denying that), the Slea Head Drive has jaw-dropping views that would take anyone's breath away. Slea ya later!

A really sensationally beautiful drive - around 50 km - in the west of the Dingle Peninsula. We drove clockwise from Dingle, which I would generally recommend because it means you drive on the lane on the sea side. We were there in the off-season in October, there was hardly anything going on, so everything was very relaxed. I can't say what it looks like in summer.
The drive is breathtaking in parts with spectacular views of bays, cliffs, the Blasket Islands and the sea. The route reminded us of the Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa and I would say the Slea Head Drive is even more beautiful.

Don’t miss Slea Head Drive. It is tight but not dangerous and the views are definitely worth the backing up or finding that spot where two cars can get by. Be adventurous.

We are so happy that we had an opportunity to do a tour of Dingle by bus. There were many people that were doing this on their own, but it was nice to sit back and take in the beauty without determining where the next car stop was located. I would suggest a tour, preferably a small group that could easily maneuver some of the smaller car parks. This drive is breathtaking and worth doing, especially on a clear day.
