I have been to Lenno a few times recently. In April I expected the train not to run. However they advised me it would start to run mid June.
I was there in June and July/Aug. The train is not running which is such a shame as it was a great way to get to Menaggio and back with stops at fun places. It appears that the authorities in Lenno/Menaggio are not allowing it. Such a shame as it was a lovely asset to the beautiful village of Lenno.

Abbiamo pranzato a Lenno e poi fatto un giro su questo trenino dal quale puoi vedere il lago nel tratto da Lenno a Menaggio...poche persone a bordo , viaggio di circa un’ora (andata),con alcune fermate e vista gradevole. A Menaggio sosta di circa 40 minuti x vedere il posto e un’ora x il ritorno.Esperienza divertente e possibilità di godere di bei panorami sul lago , costo 9€ a persona e 6€ bambini

Sur le parcours il y a beaucoup de très beaux endroits mais le train ne fait que passer devant sans la moindre explication.

Such a good way to visit the surrounding area. Runs frequently and probably one of the cheapest forms of transport. The driver is helpful and courteous. It does tend to get packed pretty quickly. The express train runs from Lenno to Mennagio. You can get a hop on/hop off ticket which I would highly recommend for as little as of approximately €12. Or returns for approximately €3-4. We opted for the hop on / hop off which gave us flexibility. We went on Tuesday which has a market in Lenno. There was such a array of Mia mash items for sale from fast foods, clothes and birds for sale. You felt so safe there wasn’t the usual annoyance when you go on holiday with people touting for business although it is a tourist area, locals also go there. Mennagio is great with lots of cafes / restaurants. There were little alleyways which also hosted restaurants. Fairly priced with wonderful views of the lake. A meal and wine would cost around €20 for good quality food. Pizzas, pastas and fresh fish. Truly a most. The express train runs up until 11pm in peak periods.

Like some other reviewers have said, this is a shuttle-style train not a tour. It takes you from Menaggio to Lenno with a number of stops along the way. You can find a schedule online so you can find out when anx where the next train will stop. Your best bet to catch the train is to get one at one of the bigger locations because some of the smaller ones may be passed by if the train is completely full.
There's a great trail from Lenno up along the hillside and back toward Menaggio called The Greenway, from which we got some amazing photos. We also stopped at Villa Carlotta - the gardens are definitely worth a visit. The town of Menaggio has a really nice waterfront as well.

This is like a shuttle service rather than a tour type ride. No details of where you are going through are given, but it does allow you to explore a stretch of the Lake Como lakeside. The seats were not as bad as some reviews suggested as we have padded seats. We had the day ticket and there is a ticket to cover the evening too. Menaggio at the north is the larger town whearas Lenno to south does not seem as big. There is a villa on the edge of the lake which has a couple of walks around, the villa its self is closed on the day we went (Thursdays) 2019 tickets were 12 euros for a day ticket to hop on and off. One can have a stop knowing next one around is in 70 mins or 100 mins at lunch time. The driver picked up a pizza at Tremezzo (on the main road) so guess that may be a recommendation.

Not a bad way to get from Lenno to Menaggio and back again. We went mid May and it was cold. It's also quite bumpy in places. We were hoping the views would be good but not much in the way of photos. We would have enjoyed it more if we didn't have to breath in the driver's cigarette smoke.

Divertente gita con il trenino che ti trasferisce da Manneggio a Lenno ad un prezzo di 5 euro per aduldi e 2 euro per i bambini, con possibilità di ritorno aggiungendo 3 euro. Il piacevole tragitto dura poco più di mezz' ora e permette di vedere un tratto di lungolago attraversando alcuni centri abitati e l' esterno di un importante villa.

Wenn man Menaggio und die Umgebung kennen lernen möchte ist der Bahnexpress das richtige vor allem wenn man noch die Motorrad Kleider dabei hat

I will visit Bellagio by boat/ferry from Varenna during May. Would the Trombetta train be a good option just to see a bit of Bellagio without the walking, as it will be a hectic day from Milan by train and ferry hopping the Lake? Where do I get the Trombetta after arriving from Varenna at the port of Bellagio? As far as I can make out the trombetta goes to other towns along the Lake but is there a route option just to see Bellagio and return to the starting point and if so how long will it take?

Hi, the train has a facebook page. It goes from Mennaggio to Lenno, following the coast road- it runs on the road. The train is mostly a fun thing. For more practical travelling around use either the very efficient buses or the wonderful ferries.
