While going to Auli from Kanakchauri I took a deviation from Karnprayag to Ranikhet , on 18th March , 2020 . 18 Km away from Karnprayag , close to Chulakot near GMVN Tourist Lodge and SBI Bank , on NH 109 there was my destination of Adi Badri ( Helisera as per revenue record ) comlex of 16 mandirs .
It is said that Adi Shankracharya , the celebrated reformer and philosopher of the eighth century constructed these mandirs . But as per Archaeological Survey of India these were built from the 5th A D to the 8th A D during the Gupta period . All the mandirs were crowded together into a small space ( 12.5 m X 25 m.) and vary in height from 2 to 6 m .
Only the main mandir of Narayan is distinguished by a raised platform in the front , roofed in and leading to the small enclosure of the pyramidal form , where a m high idol of Lord Vishnu , sculpted out of black stone was enshrined .
This place is within the Badrikshetra , and Badrinath being the name for Vishnu , the temple is known as the Adi Badri .
It is also believed that Lord Vishnu used to live here in Satyug , Treta and Dwapar yugs . In Kalyug , he shifted to Badrinath . Therfore it is known as Adi Badri . Adi mean Ancient . It is one of the five Badris ( Panch Badris ) , the others being Vishal Badri , Yog-Dhyan Badri, Vriddha Badri and Bhavishya Badri .
In ancient times , when approach to the main shrine of Badrinath was closed due to weather conditions , pilgrims worshipped Vishnu at this mandir .
Ganesh mandir , , Ram , Lakshman , Sita mandir , Janaki mandir , Hanuman mandir , Laxmi Narayan mandir , Satya Narayan mandir , Annapurna mandir , Chakrabhan mandir , Kali mandir and Shiv Temple .
Shiv mandir are the other mandirs in the complex .
Open and Closing Timings : 06:00 am to 07:00 pm .
Every year the mandir closes on 16 December and opens on 14 January .

Adi Badri is part of famous Panch Badri of Uttarakhand. It is a group of sixteen temples, belonging to the Gupta period. Among them is the Narayan temple, where a black stone idol of Vishnu, three feet high is enshrined. This place is within the Badrikshetra, and Badrinath being the name for Vishnu, the temple is known as the Adi Badri
This temple is about 20kms away from Karnaprayag . it's huge and was built couple of 100 years ago . Lot of buses can be found coming towards this side from nearby townsAdi Badri is the original Lord Vishnu temple in the region. It is an ASI (Archaeological Society of India) notified monument. The complex has 14 ancient temples of various deities.
At Karnaprayag, we took a detour towards Ranikhet. Shared taxis and a few buses run on this route. At about 20 km from Karnaprayag, is the astounding Adi Badri temple.
There is a GMVN hotel in this village, but one can stay at Karnaprayag
